Management Style<br />

The Management Style Inventory test assesses a person’s<br />

preferred style of leadership and management on seven<br />

dichotomous dimensions. Attributes like Innovation, Global<br />

Vision, Conceptual and Reflective Thinking, Affiliation,<br />

Intervention and People- Orientation are measured on<br />

a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 indicating a low level and 10<br />

indicating a high level. The test has 49 questions in forced<br />

choice format, and the outcome<br />

is a graphical presentation of the<br />

inherent leadership qualities and<br />

management style.<br />

It is here that NEXTCSO winners<br />

exhibited marked difference<br />

when compared with the nonwinners.<br />

Their scores were<br />

significantly higher in Innovation,<br />

People Orientation, Intervention<br />

and Affiliation—all leadership<br />

skills. There were not too much<br />

difference in scores of winners and<br />

non-winners when it comes to<br />

Reflective, Conceptual and Global<br />

Vision. The scores of both winners<br />

and non-winners were quite low in<br />

Global Vision.<br />

Management Profiles<br />

The Management Style test also provides an indication<br />

of how closely a candidate’s profile conforms to a seven<br />

salient management roles viz. Chief Executive, Strategist,<br />

Entrepreneur, Motivator, Project Manager, Executive Manager<br />

and Expert. The proximity to each role is measured on a scale<br />

of 0 to 100%.<br />

The management profiles exhibited most frequently by the<br />

NEXTCSO award winner group are that of Strategist, Project<br />

Manager, Motivator and Entrepreneur. While as Executive<br />

Managers and Experts, non-winners scored better than<br />

winners, the winners led the non-winners when it comes to<br />

displaying the qualities of an Entrepreneur<br />
