PORTFOLIO
Advertising
Two years ago I thought about
working in a studio or going into
printmaking and editorial design.
It seems that I came to love the
industry, from the people to the
strange corporate world we have to
work with.
In BBDO I started through an
advertising academy at New
Bulgarian university as an intern.
It seems that I had the qualities
and enthusiasm as a designer and
creative, keeping me here for almost
two and a half years.
I have done work for Postbank,
Sobranie, Wrigley (Orbit, 5 Gum),
Kamenitza, Henkel (Ceresit), Pepsi,
Mars & different various campaigns.
I have had the chance to expand
my experience and knowledge in
digital advertising, interactive and
ambient design, search, strategy and
planning & PR.
I still have quite a lot to learn,
though, and I aim to focus in digital
and marketing.
And I believe that my future in
the industry will provide that
opportunity.
Postbank
Postbank is the first corporate
client that I have worked on, and
the main client of Graffiti BBDO.
It is one of the leaders in credit
and debit cards, mortgage and
consumer loans, saving products,
as well as regarding corporate
tailored products - from those for
small businesses to large international
companies operating in the
country.
On the other, Postbank’s visual
identity is build and supported
by the agency, which gives the
client the freedom to take a U-turn
when it comes to the bank’s visual
representation. Even corporate
products such as Business banking
and Private banking do not have
a set guideline, and they constantly
change with the needs of the
industry.
It is challenging working for a financial
institution. On the one side,
the products they offer are absolutely
abstract. Finding insight and
visual representation of a credit offer
is to give dimensions to an idea
that is never too honest, and never
too exalted about the product.
COURSE
OVERVIEW
Theory of Architecture I Auditorium work: 45 h Credits: 8
The discipline articulates the principal themes in the theoretical debate on
architecture as cultural phenomenon. Space in field conditions, boundaries in architecture
space, functions and semantics in architecture language, orders in space, methods of
architecture design, and poetics of architecture as expressive system, are some of the
principal subjects of analytical discourse, critical articulation and assessment in the
course. The program formats the abilities of the students to critically judge the architecture
phenomena in their different contexts and to put their own works in relation to the
universalities of architecture culture.
Theory of Architecture II Auditorium work: 45 h Credits: 8
The discipline considers the development of architectural profession through
formation of expressive systems. The principle space-form-structure invariants that
constitute the basis of the individual architecture languages as well as their evolution and
metamorphoses through personal history, are analyzed through the works of Rem
Koolhaas, Frank Gehry, Alvaro Siza, Louis Kahn, Kazuo Sejima and other architects. The
profiles of the architects evolutionary phases are presented in synchronic and diachronic
formats.
1ST SEMESTER 2ND SEMESTER
The interdependence between the philosophical and the development of scientific
paradigm – from one hand, and the architecture conversions and revolutions in history
is the topic of the discourse in this discipline. The course also covers the reflections of
concrete philosophical and scientific models in the individual architecture languages of
sensitive to this discourse architects. The philosophy of understanding space in context of
changing visions of the universe is the principle preoccupation of the debate.
Cultural Studies of Socialized Space Credits: 4 Auditorium work: 30
The course defines a critical vision towards the interactions between the cultural
models of urban life and their spatial correlations. The analysis is given through the
structural oppositions of public-private, sacred-profane, ours-theirs, and their application
to space-use by the different social strata and cultures. Recent history of the city life in in
relation to the urban space habitation in Europe and the US is exposed in its diachronic
transition from industrial to post-industrial city.
Contemporary Architectural
Phenomena I
Credits: 4 Auditorium work: 60
The course gives a revision of principle trends and names which actively form the
field of contemporary architecture landscape. The material is articulated by principal
figures in the architecture practice today, and profiles the historic background, the
conceptual and visionary specificity of each presented architecture person and/or trend,
The material researched and presented is on the basis of the Japanese historic
architectural tradition and contemporary architecture of Japan.
Contemporary Architectural
Phenomena II
Credits: 5 Auditorium work: 60
The second part of the course gives a revision of principle trends which actively
form the field of contemporary architecture landscape. These trends will be elucidated
by analyzing some seminal writings by contemporary architects such as Rem Koolhaas,
Peter Eisenman, Fumihiko Maki, Daniel Liebeskind, Toyo Ito, Bernard Tschumi, Arata
Isozaki and others. The goal is to underline the role of text and writing in the development
of contemporary architectural practice.
1ST SEMESTER 2ND SEMESTER
Architecture & the Arts
Credits: 2 Auditorium work: 30
The discipline profiles the interdependence between the worlds of artistic expression
to the trends emerging in architecture. Specific accents are given to visual and acting
arts like: photography, cinema, theatre and performance arts, but also parallels and
correlations are configured and disclosed in the architecture to music and to dance
resonances. The exposed and analyzed artistic relations of architecture to arts are given
in historic perspective.
Relation Between the Architectural Theory & Practiceof Fumihiko Maki
Contemporary Architectural Phenomena 2 I as. prof. arch. Milena Metalkova
What we could call the main stream of Fumihiko Maki theoretical investigations is
the topic of the city and collective form. In his “Investigations in Collective form”, published
in 1964 he writes:
… there is almost a complete absence of any coherent theory beyond the one of single
buildings. We have so long accustomed ourselves to conceiving of buildings as separate entities that,
today we suffer from an inadequacy of spatial languages to make meaningful environment. This
situation has prompted us to investigate the nature of “Collective Form.
This is how he sets the beginning of series of publications and experiments, focusing
on the very border between architecture and urban planning. His first book, published in
1964 comprises two parts – “Collective Form – Three Paradigms” (in which he makes a
classification of different collective forms) and “Linkage in Collective Form” written in
cooperation with Jerry Goldberg (in which they explore different means of binding
separate elements into entity). This remained the base of his subsequent theoretical
writings.
And his book “Nurturing Dreams: Collected Essays on Architecture and the City”
could be considered a general view of his theoretical activity. The original collective form
theory is re-published in its second chapter without changes, while the next two chapters
include essays on particular cities, projects and urban phenomena. The main stream is
thus investigated by particular cases in the cities of Tokyo, New York, Brasilia, etc. This
provides a wide view to Maki’s theoretical way of thinking from his global statements to
his detail observations of urban reality.
Artament
Artament is a project by Konstantin
Atanasov and Konstantin Diamandiev.
It is an exploration of people
and their habitat - how the self is
reflected into the homes they live in.
The project started in 2013 while
I was still working in Betahaus,
with Diamandiev, on his Logowski
project. It was just an experiment
at first, but over the year it grew
and from photographic project
finding the most prominent details
reflecting a person’s identity, we
started interviewing the people we
photographed.
After we parted ways the project
started being of less importance for
both of us, and it ended in 2014.
Photography
Photography is probably my main
hobby and I do it purely for pleasure.
I am proficient both in digital
and analog photography. All post
production I do using Adobe products,
specifically Lightroom. For my
film photography I prefer doing
B&W - I understand the process of
developing the film and the photographic
printing techniques.
Most of my photographs have
either one, or none focus in them.
I prefer nature photography, or a
very stripped down urban environment.
I do not prefer taking photographs
of people, I find it way too
much of a fuss, and most people
are vain and never participate in
my images the way I want them to.
