Numbat’s reborn
By Michael Bradford

Once upon a time there lived a nice country
family who lived in the middle of dryanda forest.

• This forest was the main habitat of the
Numbat a native Australian animal who are
going to be extinct soon if some thing
doesn’t happen soon.

• My grandad Marcus has lived at the farm all
his life and had loved the Numbat’s but now
that they are all nearly gone he is becoming
very worried that if someone doesn’t do
something they will be gone forever.

• One day my dad Matt was out feeding the
sheep and noticed that there was some
sheep out in the bush.

So, he got in the Can-am got the dogs and was on his way getting the sheep back he saw this small animal kicking and making
noises sad noises. So, he went over to have a look and he wouldn’t believe what he had found he found a Numbat. In fact, it
was a mum he gently got it out from under the fence and bought it back home after finishing up with the sheep. He came
running in side with the Numbat yelling and screaming that he had found a Numbat everyone came over to see. grandad had a
look on his face that I had never seen his face went red and tears started to shed and then he started to cheer.

Grandad said that it might just be one of the
last Numbat’s left on the earth. he was so
happy that he got to see another one.

When grandad was holding, it he
noticed that there was a couple of
bad cuts on. So, they got her and
put her in the bathroom and
dressed the cuts and rapped them
up. Also, my sister Marry loved
animals and made her a little bed
to sleep in. We put her in the
bathroom so she didn’t get
anything dirty that we couldn’t
clean. We got her nice and comfy
gave her some ants for outside and
left her there to sleep. The next day
we all were having breakfast and
we wanted to know what we will
be doing with the Numbat. Dad
said that we should put it back out
in the wild, but grandad said that
we should keep it here. Everyone
was wondering why because there
were no other Numbat’s here so
why would we keep her here if she
can’t breed with other Numbat’s.

I asked him why and he said because
she is pregnant everyone couldn’t
believe it there will be more little
Numbat’s. A couple of weeks later
we found her with four little baby
Numbat’s they were so cute. They
were as small as my parm. We all
were so happy. We all started to
hope that we could keep the
population of the Numbat’s growing.

• So that afternoon me, dad and
grandad went out into the bush and
put up a lot of fences to keep the
Numbat’s safe it took a couple of
days because we had to go
underground as well but It was all
worth it.

Yeah boy
The next couple of days’ mum
and Mary were looking after
the babies and the mum and
we were all baiting and
shooting all the fox’s and feral
cats in the fence so when we
put them in there nothing
would harm them.

Once we were certain that there were
no dangerous animals in there and the
babies were old enough we put the
Numbat’s in there. They were all so
happy running around climbing trees we
were all sad to say goodbye but we will
always come and visit them and cheek
up on them. We were going so well now
that we knew that the Numbat’s where
going ok until one day when dad was
checking on them and he found one two
dead all ripped up this made the whole
family sad because of how close we
were to them.

Dad went out to check if their might have been a cat or fox in
the fence so that night he went out with the gun hunting
them. In the middle of the night he saw this thing walking
around where the Numbat’s were he looked though the scope
and saw that it was a cat he lined it up and bang! Took a shoot
and shoot it right in the head. He came home and said that he
had killed the cat in there and that the Numbat’s should be ok
from now.

In the end the Numbat’s numbers
started to become greater and
greater they were all breeding in the
fence. People started to come all
around the world wanting to see the
Numbat’s. Many zoo owners want to
buy some Numbat’s but dad had a
special surprise we were going to
make our very own enclosure for
them so they can stay right here and
people can see them. Once it was all
finished everything was great and
everyone was happy. The end.
