AN INTRODUCTION TO
ANAL SEX
AN INFORMATIVE GUIDE BY BEDROOM KANDI
Anal sex encompasses a variety of sexual
acts involving the anus and rectum. These can
include anal fingering, analingus (oral-anal sex,
sometimes called “rimming”), anal insertion
(using an object like a strap-on or other toy) and
anal intercourse (penis-in-anus sex).
Anal sex can be enjoyed by individuals of any
gender, and any orientation. Everyone has a
back door, after all! But it requires preparation,
care, and patience to make it pleasurable.
Communication is Key!
No surprise butt-sex. Always check in with
your partner, talk things through, and
communicate about whether you’re
?
both on board for trying anal.
Check in during anal sex to
make sure you’re both
enjoying yourselves!
WHY TRY ANAL?
IT FEELS GOOD - There are a lot
of nerve endings to stimulate around
the anus, including those in the man’s
prostate.
IT FEELS BAD - in a good way! The
taboos around anal sex can make it a
thrill and add something exciting to your
bedroom routine. You naughty thing!
IT SPICES THINGS UP - Trying
new things keeps things fresh, and
anal sex will open up a whole new
range of sexual positions and activities
for you and your partner to share.
IT CAN SUBVERT GENDER
ROLES - Either partner can penetrate
or receive, (using strap-ons or other toys
for Lesbian or Straight couples), so you
can change up your usual bedroom roles!
Butt Stuff: Myth vs Truth
MYTH: There’s poop in there!
TRUTH: Feces isn’t stored in the rectum -- it just passes through during a bowel
movement. Clean out the trace amounts left there before anal sex, and you’ll find
it’s not that dirty!
MYTH: You don’t need a condom during anal sex.
TRUTH: While anal sex alone won’t lead to pregnancy, there is a high risk
of STI/STD transmission, so a condom is never a bad idea.
MYTH: Only homosexual men enjoy receiving anal sex.
TRUTH: Anyone can enjoy receiving anal sex (if properly prepared), and it has no link to
sexual orientation! There are a lot of nerve endings around the anus and rectum, which
can be stimulated pleasurably for both sexes. Men can also enjoy the stimulation of the
prostate via anal penetration.
MYTH: It will hurt.
TRUTH: Anal sex doesn’t have to hurt if you’re relaxed, prepped, and ready
to enjoy it. Anal isn’t for everyone, but it doesn’t need to be painful.
ow!
*
MYTH: My anus will get all stretched out and damaged!
TRUTH: Any sex, done improperly and without preparation and lubrication, can
cause injury. But the anus, like the vagina, is quite elastic. Kegel exercises and
exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor will help the anal sphincter retain its strength.
BE SAFE
It is always good policy to use a condom or other barrier protection
(dental dams, latex gloves) during anal sex to prevent the spread of
disease and infection. Anal intercourse may not result in pregnancy, but
the anal tissue is fragile and tears can easily lead to the spread of STIs.
NEVER switch from anal sex to vaginal sex (with a penis, hand, or
toy) without first taking a break to wash, change a condom, etc. to
avoid transferring bacteria from the anus to the genitals - Front to back,
not back to front!
PREPARATION
GET CLEAN! Have a bowel movement, and be sure to wash thoroughly with soap and
warm water around the anus before anal sex. An internal rinse isn’t necessary, but if you’re
anxious about hygiene, a small warm water enema can help you feel more thoroughly
clean. You can put down a towel on the bed if you’re worried about the sheets!
LUBE UP! This is the MOST important step. Unlike the vagina, the anus doesn’t produce
its own lubrication. Anal sex without lubrication will result in tearing of the fragile tissue of the
rectum and be very painful. ALWAYS use lube, and use A LOT. Silicone lubes like Bedroom
Kandi’s SLEEK are a great choice for anal play, as they won’t dry out as fast as water-based
lubricants. If you’re using toys, try SILK, a hybrid silicone-water lube that won’t damage
silicone toys.
SILICONE LUBE
(Bedroom Kandi SLEEK)
GREAT for anal sex and
use with latex condoms!
SILK (HYBRID) LUBE
(Bedroom Kandi SILK)
GOOD for anal sex and
GREAT for anal toy use.
WATER-BASED LUBE
(Bedroom Kandi Natural
Intimate Lubricant)
OKAY for anal play.
NOTE: Oil-based lubricants are not recommended for anal or vaginal use, and can cause condom breakage.
FOREPLAY: You need to be in the right mindset to relax and enjoy anal sex. Plenty of
foreplay to increase arousal will help, including massage. Gently massaging and playing
with the outside of the anus can be pleasurable all on its own!
GETTING STARTED
RELAX!
Don’t tense up your pelvic muscles.
Relax, as if you’re about to have a
bowel movement (if you prepped,
don’t worry, there shouldn’t be any
poo!) Breathe deeply throughout.
Make sure you’re completely at
ease!
GO SLOW!
Slowly and gently stretch the
anus with a finger first, then two,
gradually adding fingers or a small
sex toy as your body acclimates
until you and your partner are
ready for penetration. Giving your
body time to adjust will reduce the
chance of pain.
GET IN POSITION!
Anal sex beginner? Lying on your
stomach or doggy-style might be
good positions to start out with.
As you and your partner get more
comfortable with anal, there are a
wide variety of positions out there
to try!
Toys:
Some
people aren’t ready for or don’t enjoy penile penetration,
but enjoy using toys, either as the main event or as part of their
preparation routine. Some anal toys include:
ANAL PLUGS:
Plugs can be used as
part of preparation, or
for a sense of added
‘fullness’ during other
sexual acts. BK’s
BOOTY CALL and
P-CURIOUS plugs
are great for beginners!
BOOTY CALL
P-CURIOUS
ANAL BEADS: Each bead is larger for a
slow and steady stretch; try pulling them out at
orgasm for a heightened, incredible sensation!
STEP BY STEP
You can also use vibrators to stimulate the clitoris during anal sex for added pleasure!
FINISHING UP
PULL OUT SLOWLY. It will feel weird, but going slow will help.
WASH UP THOROUGHLY. Both partners should clean thoroughly, especially
before any further sexual acts.
DON’T PANIC. Your anus might not be a tight pucker right away and take a little
while to close up firmly, but give it time. Also don’t be surprised if your next bowel
movement is more slippery than usual!
