The Ministry of Works and
Transport (MOE) as well as Ministry
of Rural Development
toured the Moruga/Tableland
Constituency on June 24, 2017 to
assess the impact Bret had on
these communities along with
members of PURE.
MP for the area, Dr. the Hon.
Lovell Francis took the opportunity
to discuss with his colleagues
the existing road infrastructure
and lobby for the Moruga
Road Rehabilitation Project to
begin..

Ministry of Works and Transport &
PURE host Public Consultation Sessions
During the tour, constituents
posted photos of roadways that
falls under the Ministry of Works
and Transport as they heeded the
call of the MP, who explained
that “Since we will not be able to
visit every single village I am requesting
the help of you my goodly
constituents.....please post below
here pics of roadways that fall the
Ministry of Works that require immediate
intervention.”
On August 28, 2017 MOE and
PURE facilitated public consultation
sessions in Basse Terre and
St. Mary’s Village, where members
of the community were given
the platform to ask questions
and voice their concerns all in the
interest of community development.

Back to school preparations are always
an exacting and expensive process. In
2016, MP for the area, Dr. the Hon.
Lovell Francis and his team saw the
need to support parents and students
with their back to school preparations
to ensure as much children as possible
start the new school term on a positive
and stress free note via its Book Drive;
the participation and reach was overwhelming
signaling the need to make
this a yearly activity.
This year, with the support of his colleagues
and team members MP Francis
was able to successfully execute
the 2017 Book Drive. He further
partnered with “Friends of Minister
Clarence Rambarath” and Courts
Optical to facilitate an Eye Testing
Drive in the Moruga/Tableland Constituency,
where as part of the back to
school drive, were given free eye test
and lenses.

The Heliconia Foundation and the Office
of the Prime Minister donated
much needed back to school items
towards the drive for which both parents
and students were happy to receive.
This initiative continues to be an important
and much needed one as it facilitates
partnership and collaboration
in the best interest of the next generation
and fosters involvement from the
community as well as parents. A sincere

and the Office of the Prime

Local Contractors on the job at Gomez Trace
It is important to provide small businesses within the community the opportunities to grow and develop its operations. Jason
Mills General Contractors Limited and CONAFT are two examples of such collaboration as they have both taken advantage
of opportunities in their field to expand their business and serve their community. These two contractors continues to work
diligently on the Gomez Trace Housing Project as they play their part in building the Moruga/Tableland communities.

When innovation meets food, you experience amazing items such as Pigeon Peas Doubles, Provision Pies, Pigeon Peas
Wine and many more unique items.
Moruga, rich in its history, heritage and natural resources merged on Saturday 29th July, 2017 as The Moruga Poverty Reduction
Centre under the Patronage of the Member of Parliament for Moruga/Tableland, Dr. The Hon. Lovell Francis hosted
its first Sustainable Food Development Project entitled “Food, Fashion & Fun” at the Grand Chemin Recreation
Grounds. The focus of this event was to encourage participants to utilize foods indigenous to Moruga in their everyday
lives in an attempt to reduce the level of poverty in Moruga and its environs. Adding innovation to the mix is simple as the
brain child of the initiative, Natalie Patrice explains “incorporate the use of ground provisions in your Sunday pie; its
healthier and something you can grow yourself.”
Community Building initiatives of this nature is critical to the development of the Moruga/Tableland. Thank you Ms. Patrice
and the Moruga Poverty Reduction Centre for your contribution to building your community.

Gomez Trace Emancipation Day Cook Out
Gomez Trace came alive on Emancipation Day as residence came out in their numbers to support “Gomez Trace Men Who
Can Cook and Football Event”. Brian Khan, organizer of the event explained “the objective of this event was to foster
collaboration and healthy competition in the community”. The event was a huge success as families came out and had a
great evening; they enjoyed food items and cheered for their football team! Great job Brian and thank you for contributing
to the development of your community.
Congratulations to Moruga Next Gen...
It is no secret that Moruga is well endowed with talent,
skills and undisputed beauty. On July 17, 2017 Moruga’s
athlete turned beauty queen, Melissa Aguilleira was
crowned First Runner Up at the coveted Miss World
Trinidad and Tobago 2017 Competition. Congratulations
and well wishes poured in as all of Moruga was indeed
proud of Ms. Aguilleira’s achievement and shared in the
excitement.
Moruga have produced several very talented sportsmen and women
over the years who performed at the national level in different disciplines,
and that continues….
Isaiah Gomez, 13 of St. Mary’s Village travelled to England as part
of the under 14 National Schoolboy Cricket Team who successfully
toured England. Isaiah gave a notable performance with 29 runs
against Northhamptonshire County.
