soliD inDexaBle PCBn inserts<br />
PCBn material<br />
<strong>PCBN</strong> (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) is a highly efficient cutting material manufactured<br />
by high-pressure synthesis. High hardness (the second highest after the diamond),<br />
strength, wear resistance, toughness, high thermal resistance (c. up to 1200°C) and chemical<br />
resistance are specific properties in general, which means that there is no reaction<br />
with carbide forming elements included in the workpiece material. Nevertheless, these<br />
excellent properties, namely their extent, can also be changed.<br />
Basic variables for determining individual <strong>PCBN</strong> grades properties are <strong>PCBN</strong> content in<br />
a volume unit, a grain size, composition and amount of a binder and applied sintering manufacturing<br />
process.<br />
Therefore, <strong>PCBN</strong> materials for cutting tools offered by our company are an obvious choice<br />
for machining of:<br />
hardened steels (from the hardness of 45Hrc)<br />
bearing and tool steels<br />
for high-speed machining of grey and chilled-cast irons<br />
powder metals<br />
superalloys on the basis of Co, ni, Fe<br />

A customer can machine the above mentioned materials either in standard accuracies, or<br />
the technology can be changed and the <strong>PCBN</strong> can also be used for finishing and replace<br />
grinding operations. However, the final operating power and workpiece machining quality<br />
is given by combination of all the applied attributes, i.e. <strong>PCBN</strong> properties, cutting conditions,<br />
a shape and a cutting tool geometry and a machine tool stability and toughness.<br />
A significant advantage for solution of different <strong>PCBN</strong> applications is a fact that a complete<br />
production is carried out by BONAR a.s. Thereby, there is a space for meeting customers’<br />
requirements both in terms of dimensions and shape variability of products made<br />
of solid <strong>PCBN</strong>.<br />
