Walking the Trail
It gets tough in New Hampshire
The 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail extends from the Appalachian
Range’s Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mt. Katahdin in Maine.
New Hampshire’s portion of the trail includes some of the most
difficult terrain, including an ascent of Mt. Washington, where the
hiker pictured here pauses to enjoy the view. Often helping hikers
along the way are “Trail Angels,” volunteers who provide everything
from supplies to hot showers and a soft bed. Learn about some of
New Hampshire’s Angels on page 32.
