Meet the Instructor
as forgiveness of sins. Greg explains it in simple
and economical terms, “If it was God’s will for us
to carry sickness, then why did Jesus take it for us
at the cross? Why do we go to doctors and try to
get better if it’s God’s will that we are sick? Is that
disobeying His will, then?” Students generally offer
no reply, so he answers, “Yeah, it always goes over
like that.” Students laugh as they realize the gravity
of what they’ve just heard.
Greg goes on to explain that “it’s often at a crisis
point…that you finally realize you can’t be neutral
or passive anymore.” He recalls a time when his
nephew Ryan had water on the brain. Because
his family didn’t know their authority in Christ, he
passed away. Greg concluded, “Praise God, we will
see him again, but he didn’t have to die.”
This is one of the reasons he wants students to be
grounded in the Word of God. “In what we like
to call here the Charis experience, the first year
[of Charis] is designed to help people become
grounded. We want [them] to understand the Word,
the identity truths of who they are in Christ, and
God’s unconditional love. We do that using the Bible
as our text.”
Greg says that the second year “is geared toward
functioning in a practical way and ministering to
others. We want [second-year students] to become
confident in communicating the Gospel, taking a
missions trip, and realizing that the Gospel is about
the practical ministry of every believer. It’s just not
about the super dupers; it’s about every believer
finding their place in the body of Christ.”
As director of both Charis Colorado and the Third-
Year Ministry School, Greg plants the seeds early in
students that Charis is not a two-year school but a
three-year school. “The Third Year is designed to
identify and train people in the area of their specific
call. We want students to become laser focused
on what is in their hearts and on what best suits
them.” He shares that as students function in various
areas with exposure to plenty of different kinds of
ministries, something’s going to “make their baby
leap” and come alive on the inside of them. “At
Charis, through teaching and revelation, students
are encouraged to develop with God a community
of students stirring one another up to love and good
works.” Greg concludes this by saying, “Andrew is
not insecure, or this could never happen here.”
At Charis, Greg is described as a pastor’s pastor.
His passion is to help students understand that
God’s will is healing for everyone, all the time, and
throughout all generations. For him, it’s all about
having a prosperous soul and seeking to understand
more than being understood. His hope is that above
all, Charis will develop healthy people who will live
healthy lives and manifest Jesus to the world.
