AUTHENTIC BRANDING MADE SIMPLE - TESA COLVIN
Tesa Colvin
Don’t Be the Cheap Cotton Swab:
Authentic Branding Made Simple
Tesa Colvin is the owner and CEO of Borrow My MBA, LLC, an Author, Escape Plan Clarity Coach and Multiple
Income Stream Strategist. She coaches passionate solo-prenuers, who desire FREEDOM and SUCCESS in their
business and lives.
Through tailored coaching and strategy sessions, she helps entrepreneurs not just set goals, but develop effective
plans that help them to be and stay focused and empowered as they build and monetize their business. Tesa’s
mission is to FREE entrepreneurs from the self-sabotage of trying to do it like everyone else, by encouraging and
empowering these DREAMERS to focus on their own vision and version of success.
“Don’t bring me the cheap cotton
swabs, they hurt my ears!” is just
one of the things my dad has said
that taught me so much.
I was rushing and halfway out the
door when his instructions registered
with me. AND to be honest,
I didn’t see why it mattered if I
bought back the QTip brand swabs
or not.
But my dad is a consumer who has
established his loyalty to a particular
brand. Now, to be fair, at that
point (and even now) I can’t say that
I have a cotton swab preference, but
I do have a loyalty to other “brands”
that drive my willingness to follow
them and most importantly invest in
their products or services.
As I thought about the simple request
to “not bring back the cheap
cotton swabs”, I realized that there
were extraordinary business principles
in this preference of QTips
over other cotton swabs. Principles
that can mean the difference between
your brand being considered
a household name, or a low value
“knock-off”.
Following the blueprint of a successful
brand does not insure quality
for your audience or ideal client
They say imitation is the highest
form of flattery, but as you receive
and apply expert advice, don’t overlook
the level of quality in your audience
experience.
Creating an authentic brand means
staying true to the mission and vision
of that business.
Entrepreneurship
requires thinking
outside
the box, disrupting
the
norm, and
going against
the grain. As
you can imagine,
this sometimes
means that
people just don’t get you
or the vision you have. But to truly
build an innovative business, you
have to commit to “do it the way you
dreamed it”, even when that means
not following the industry blueprint
and ruffling a few feathers.
You get what you pay for
This has less to do with pricing and
more to do with your experience.
Staying genuine to your vision, story
and goals - benefits your clients’
way more than imitating other experts
in your niche. This holds true
because your story cost you something
and that makes you an invaluable
resource to your audience.
Otherwise you end up building a
business and audience that’s not
true to you.
No matter how much you try to look
like another brand, customers trust
and are loyal to authentic brands.
Don’t underestimate the power of
being exactly who you are.
“Know, like and trust” is
a two way street. If you
don’t know, like and
trust who you and your
business are, how will
you convince others to
do the same?
Your personal and business
brand is unique. It doesn’t
matter if you have products or
services that are similar to 12 other
businesses or not. The one thing
that they do not have is YOU, your
unique perspective, your unique
journey and your own personally
cultivated super power. You are designed
to connect with certain people
and that connection is based on
you being a human being with certain
life experiences. So don’t discount
this when building your audience
and business as it is the key to
success and longevity.
Take some time to list the things that
make your brand genuine and how
you can embrace that as you build.
FINDING FREEDOM IN SCOTLAND - KELLEY ANNE
FREEDOM IN
SCOTLAND
Kelley Anne
Kelley Anne is an American therapist, blogger,
and world traveler. She currently lives in
Italy. Her Blog “the Guide to Getting Lost,”
is dedicated to helping women “get lost” in
living well. It focuses on travel, self-care, and
food. When she’s not writing you can find
her, marathoning Netflix shows, drinking a
spritz, or dancing like a lunatic in her car.
“You were wild once. Don’t let them tame you”.
~Isadora Duncan~
Scotland captured my heart the first time I visited
it in 2014. I stepped off the plane and found
my bliss. Scotland grabs you and takes you on
the adventure of a lifetime. It will challenge you
with its rain and its chill. It will comfort you with
its whiskey and its curry. And it will embolden
you with its natural beauty and daring people.
Yes Scotland will create a wildness and a sense
FINDING FREEDOM IN SCOTLAND - KELLEY ANNE
beautiful background of Scotland. Edinburgh and the highlands embody the feel of this country. Scotland is full of contradictions
and ever shifting moods. The day may start out with sunshine, but beware; rain will come at least once a day!
The city itself is filled with beautiful monuments and limestone buildings dirtied with age to create their own charm. And
that is Scotland wet and dry, dirty and clean, cold and warm, but always beautiful.
The Highlands are breathtaking! Taking a tour out there is a MUST. My rec is to go with Rabbie’s tours. I have used them
on 4 separate occasions and have never been let down. This last trip my friends and I booked two separate tours.
Below is a short recap of how I spent my time in Scotland!
Day one found me and my friends having the most incredible afternoon tea at the Signet Library. Sitting unobtrusively in
the corner of a busy square lies the library. But as you open the doors you are led an incredibly elegant experience (click
here for my post dedicated solely to afternoon tea)
Day Two found us on a tour wandering the entrance of the highlands in the rain. It was cold. It was wet. It was glorious.
All this coming from the girl that HATES the damp. But here in Scotland it was all apart of the experience. We followed
trails to century old churches; we walked in the rain in pursuit of waterfalls; we found picturesque lochs. I couldn’t keep
the smile off of my face for the whole day! We then we capped the day off with some
Dewar’s whiskey and toured the facility.
Day three took us to Edinburgh Castle where we stepped back into history
and learned of the important and imposing role this castle played
in history. Edinburgh Castle stands apart on the top of a crag with
beautiful views of the city below. We spent the day here absorbing
the history and taking in the beauty of this castle.
Day Four found us on another tour to Stirling Castle walking again in
the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots. We took a short hike (which
i sadly wheezed through) to get to a beautiful views of Loch Lemond.
We stopped and saw a terrifying monument to Scotland’s kelpies,
which is apparently the worlds biggest Equine monument. Another
great day and a wonderful close to our time at Scotland.
Scotland is special in my heart because it reminds me to embrace the wildness and
sense of adventure within me. It affirms that within wildness there is beauty. And while life has its demands and constraints
I can’t let the day to day of life “tame me.”
So if you get the chance head out to Scotland. Find a bit of freedom, be a bit wild, and find your sense of adventure!
CONNECT WITH THE ENERGY OF MONEY - JENNIFER ALVAREZ
KILLER CONTENT SEGMENT
KILLER CONTENT SEGMENT
UNLEARNING HOW YOU TALK ABOUT CONFLICT - IMANI AIESHAH
Is it possible to be rich and spiritual at the same time? There are many people who would say no. They would say
“Money is the root of all evil, rich people are greedy, it’s ok to have enough to be comfortable but anymore is too
much“ etc.
Money is just energy. It is a neutral resource. Money is not “good” or “bad”, just like water is not “good” or “bad”.
I could drink water or I could drown someone with it but what I choose to do with it does not make the water
“evil” or “bad”. It does say something about me though.
The question is if money is just energy, how do we connect with that energy to bring more of it into our lives?
First you need to know the universe is kind and only wants what is best for you. When you think about money
how does it make you feel? What comes to mind when I say “Money is”? If the thought of money brings you any
stress, since the universe is infinitely kind, it will remove it from your life. If your car payment stresses you out it
will remove the money to pay for it so the car payment goes away. If bills stress you out it will remove the money
from your life to pay for those bills.
The key for connecting with the energy of money is to clean up our negative thought patterns. We must take
responsibility for where we are in our life. Start by writing down all of your limiting beliefs. Then write down
your money story. From the time you can remember think of all of the negative money experiences you had. What
did your parents, teachers, mentors, friends teach you about money?
Ask yourself are these things true or were these their truths? You have the power to choose new thoughts. You
have the power to write a new story. Take the paper you wrote your old story on and burn it. Release it. Let it go.
Keep your new money story with you. Anytime you have those negative thoughts creep up say “Thank you God/
Universe/Spirit (whatever you believe in) for showing me I still need to work on this area. I am ready to let go of
that story now. I am ready to write a new story where money flows into my life easily and effortlessly.”
Consistency = Currency. Keep working on your thoughts and letting go of your old beliefs. Find affirmations that
resonate with you. Read them daily to help you re-program your mind. Use the power of visualization. Imagine
yourself enjoying all of the things that money can buy you.
Repeat after me: I am an energetic match to (anything you want to manifest such as amount of money, # of clients,
dream car, dream house, etc.)
I’m Imani Aieshah. A straight-shooting, plant-based-eating,
living to laugh out loud, Wife & Mompreneur! What moves
me? Helping busy couples break through the feelings of
disconnect that keep them in conflict and out of communication
so they can step into the exciting “weget-each-other”
relationship they want!
Let’s face it, it really sucks when you don’t feel
comfortable enough in your relationship to just
BE without second-guessing and suppressing
what you REALLY feel. But it doesn’t have to be
that way. You can be a real couple, warts and all,
and still be rockin’ it in a healthy way! I’m here
to show you what’s possible in your relationship.
Beyond just “potential,” together we create action
and forward motion toward what you want.
You and I, we’re the “something” you said you were going
to do to get your relationship back on track.
I’m ready. Are you?
UNLEARNING HOW YOU TALK ABOUT CONFLICT - IMANI AIESHAH
KILLER CONTENT SEGMENT
UNLEARNING HOW YOU TALK ABOUT CONFLICT - IMANI AIESHAH
We are often told, through various forms of popular media, “love is a battlefield.”
We are encouraged to “pick our battles” and cautioned that commitment means being trapped by our “ball and
chain.” Then, if we get married, we hear that “it’s all down hill from there.”
It basically just sounds like we are shackled to the partners we love, prisoners of war. Not exactly the image
you’d like to have when trying to nurture and development healthy, long-lasting relationships. However, it’s the
kind of language that seems to creep into your relationship whether you want it to or not.
Yes, being in a relationship requires a level of awareness and effort. But should you be so quick to discuss your
partnerships in the same terms used to combat enemies at war?
Fight…’Till Death Do you Part
Learning how to resolve your issues would be nearly impossible if you didn’t have any conflict. Conflict tends
to come with the territory, and it can test the strength and durability of your relationship. However, should you
refer to this conflict as “fighting?” Fighting is better left to soldiers and professional boxers, don’t you think?
What would happen if you stopped referring to the conflicts in your relationships as fights and started referring
to them as what they are: disagreements.
More simply, what if you called your conflicts disagreements instead of fights and stopped using the words that
could quite easily be mistaken for military strategy?
Saying something is “nice” is not the same as saying it is “fabulous,” right? The words you use carry weight,
so don’t wield them like a sword. Use them to connect to what you really want: a healthy relationship that feels
good to you!
If you can use your words to perceive conflict differently with your partner, you may just find you have less
conflict and more time to enjoy each other. If you’re trying to work with your partner to create an amazing relationship,
you don’t want to speak to him or her as an enemy of war whenever there is conflict. So, next time you
and your partner disagree, take off the armor and back away from the frontline.
Save
Imagine you’re talking to a friend about something that happened between you and your significant other. In the
first scenario, you tell him or her, “John and I just got in a fight.” In the second scenario, you state, “John and I
had a disagreement.” How does each sound to you?
The first scenario doesn’t really make it seem like anything can be resolved, but the second sounds fixable. By
choosing how you talk about the conflicts in your relationship, you can either create more conflict or begin to
find a solution.
Fighting conjures up images of two people going blow for blow, even if those blows are only verbal. When you
disagree, it feels more like a situation that can have a solution. You can either agree to disagree or find some
common ground that leads to resolution. When was the last time you saw the possibility for common ground
with two people going at each other’s throats in a fight, physically or verbally?
Now, maybe you don’t call it fighting. Maybe you call it arguing. Okay, “argue” could be a suitable substitute,
but it can also encourage you to fall into another trap: the concept of “winning.”
To The Victor Goes the Spoils?
Arguing is what debaters do to make their point. A significant difference between a romantic couple and a
couple of debaters is that the debaters’ objective is to win. Unfortunately, “winning” has also become a goal in
relationships. But tell me, what do you really win? Is there some grand prize at the end of it all? If your partner
concedes to your superior wisdom, do you get a trophy? A new BMW? Stainless steel appliances?
True, you may gain the fleeting satisfaction that you were “right,” but is that worth causing more friction in the
relationship than necessary?
We can probably agree that when there are winners, there are usually losers. If you win, does that mean your
partner lost? Truth is, the concept of winning and losing doesn’t sound all that great outside of sporting events
and war. If one person in the relationship “wins,” then ultimately both lose.
What would happen if you changed your perspective and stopped looking for victory in your disagreements?
What if you worked to approach them with resolution in mind instead of trying to be the one to declare “I win”
in the end?
MONEY, MIND, AND SPIRITUALITY - DISHA PRAKASH
KILLER CONTENT SEGMENT
KILLER CONTENT SEGMENT
MONEY, MIND, AND SPIRITUALITY - DISHA PRAKASH
consciousness of lack.
Money, Mind and Spirituality
My name is Disha Prakash. I am an engineer and a blogger who loves to
write about spirituality, law of attraction, personal development, inspiration
and deep mind based articles.
What are your core feelings about money? Do you live in poverty consciousness
or money consciousness? Either way, you reflect the type of
beliefs ingrained in your mind since childhood.
It is not uncommon to say that most our current humanity has been raised up with a
Some of the most common phrases we heard as a child include
• Money does not grow on trees
• Work hard to earn money
• Money is the root of all evil
• The rich get richer and the poor get poorer
Two people may compete for the same goal, one succeeds and one fails even though they may take the same route.
What decides their success? With subtle ignorance to our inability to understand this concern most of the times,
we blame the outer forces for our failures. On another side, if no reason seems plausible, we blame destiny.
But to your surprise, none of the above-listed reasons are responsible for the quantity of wealth we manifest. It is
only the outer reflection of our current mindset about money.
Though not completely but to some extent, it is our participation (via subconscious) that leads to the events we
experience. The quality of beliefs and thinking patterns penetrated deep in our subconscious decides our destiny.
The people with a negative mindset about money, without their knowing via subconscious repel the various money
making opportunities they came across.
To explain, let me elaborate in detail. Our brain has two parts conscious or the reasoning side and unconscious
or the obeying side. The conscious mind is the doorkeeper to the quality of thoughts we let in regarding our day
to day money related events while the subconscious accepts these thoughts as true without conscience. For example,
you consciously regard money as the source of all evil but subconscious accepts this as a fact and always
keeps you away from money.
To let the inflow of money into your life, you have to consciously analyze all the patterns that are contrary to
money. Once those patterns are removed from your money equation, a flow of money occurs. Though new patterns
may take some time to show a visible effect but with consistent practice, one can achieve a life-long effect.
As most of the times, we have a belief that to desire riches, crave luxuries and worldly pleasures, we aren’t spiritual
keeping all sorts of material wealth away from us. But as Eckart Tolle, the author of “power of now”, tells
that one can desire anything if he remains detached with it. Whatever comes let it in and whatever go let it go
should be our approach to life. Clinging to the past or painting an imaginary future deprives us of our true powers.
Detachment is where our power lies and enables us to surrender truly to the cosmic power operating through us
to bring out our highest good to the forefront.
The current humanity does not enjoy the present moment; they always want to go from here to “there” and after
reaching “there” which becomes their present moment they again target something ignoring the glory of the present
moment. Therefore this makes essential for us to celebrate our accomplishments to develop a healthy mindset.
To be wealthy you have to show gratitude for the present wealth you have been bestowed with. This gratification
allows you to have a deeper soul connection with the higher self which presents you with the right opportunity at
the right time, enables you to meet right persons and make right decisions at right time.
Following is the list of techniques which I have read from multiple books and sources that I recommend for you
to start practicing from today to move up the abundance scale.
Apart from money, these exercises can also be used for success, relationships, career or any other life area which
needs improvement
• Being in the present moment
Enjoy the present moment AS IT IS. It is with the true acceptance of the life forces that the universe or the infinite
operates through us to show its real powers.
• Gratitude
The energy we put out is what we receive back. Show gratitude even for even small amounts of money or abundance
that comes your way.
This appreciation allows the universe to deliver you more of the same by opening various channels that lead
wealth to you.
• Extract the core feelings
List down the reasons why you want more wealth in your life. From these reasons extract the core feelings associated
with it. For instance, one such feeling can be to have freedom. Now list down the ways through which
you can achieve freedom. Working in this way eliminates the subconscious barriers associated with the main goal
(here money).
On an ending note, keep in mind that our outer reality reflects only what we believe in inwardly. To have an everlasting
inflow of money first change your beliefs about money and then start working on the possible ways from
that point.
TIME TO UNPLUG: SOLO WELLNESS RETREATS - STEPHANIE POOLE
In Victoria BC, I have enjoyed www.santespavictoria.com There is an outdoor mineral tub and a relaxing lounge
complete with herbal teas and light snacks.
Time to Unplug – Solo
Wellness Retreats
My name is Stephanie Poole and I love travelling, spa experiences
and food! I have been known to spend hours researching new destinations,
spa treatments and restaurant menus just for the fun of it.
Health and Wellness retreats are rapidly growing in popularity and it’s no surprise, as our everyday lives get busier
and more demanding. It’s time to put some focus back on ourselves and make it a priority to take care of our
bodies and our health.
Many hotels and resorts are offering tailored wellness retreats as part of their packages and while you could incorporate
these into a girl’s getaway or a romantic vacation, I think it’s important to consider doing it alone.
Making a commitment to spend time alone can be a little scary but there are so many benefits to a solo retreat:
1. Your Own Experience: There will be no compromising or incorporating activities that someone else
wants to do.
2. Just Let Go: No expectations from anyone. You can dance in your hotel room, sleep until noon or eat
breakfast for dinner.
3. Discover Yourself: With no one else around, you can let your thoughts roam, journal, relax and find out
what makes you happiest.
4. Individual Care: There will be no demands on you or your time so focus on your body and determine what
you need most and how to heal.
5. Stay in Budget: You decide where and how much to spend. Splurge on a spa treatment or take advantage
of the free amenities included with your vacation. No pressure to spend more than you plan.
Short on time? Locate a private spot in your own city or countryside
such as a park or beach setting, get comfortable and just enjoy the
sounds of nature for a while. A favourite spot in my city is Horth
Hill Park. There are many trails to wander, a beautiful lookout spot
and never crowded with people.
Maybe you only have a day or two available. Consider renting a
cabin or cottage near your city. Many offer hot tubs to relax in,
nature trails to explore and a quiet place to reflect. If you are near
Vancouver Island, check out Free Spirit Spheres for a very unique and
enchanted experience. www.freespiritspheres.com
Finally, if a more luxurious retreat is what you are after, here are some resorts to consider:
Sparkling Hill Resort – Vernon:
This unique resort in Vernon, BC offers two, five and seven-day retreats
designed specifically to help you meet specific health and wellness
goals. Experience the healing properties of 7 different steams and saunas,
access to Naturopaths, Nutritional Consultants and Spa Practitioners in
BC’s largest spa spanning over 40,000 sq ft. There is even a pool with
underwater music and a starry Swarovski crystal night sky to whisk
you away to total relaxation. For complete relaxation and rejuvenation,
check out www.sparklinghill.com
Golden Door – California:
The Golden Door offers award winning all-inclusive five or seven day
body and mind programs. They have 30 miles of private trails, a variety of activities
such as yoga, archery, and boxing, and a daily massage to release any remaining
stress. Farm to table dining will help you nourish your body from the inside and a series of inspirational speakers
will open your mind and nurture your soul. www.goldendoor.com
A solo journey is what you make it. Here are some ways you can bring more peace to your life.
If budget is a concern, find a local spa and choose a single treatment to enjoy, but plan to spend the day utilizing
the free services such as mineral pools, saunas and relaxation lounges. Bring a good book or your journal and
take some time out.
It’s time to de-stress your soul and find inner peace; your mind and body will thank you.
