‘Enjoy the beauty of nature in Tipperary’
Castletown Glebe
Our tip for
DID YOU KNOW?
Galanthus ‘Hill Poe’, one of the neatest ‘double flowered’ snowdrops, was
first observed in the garden of James Hill Poe in Nenagh.
In the 1950’s bulbs were sent to the Giant Snowdrop Company in Gloucestershire,
who introduced the variety into the commercial gardening world. Galanthus ‘Hill Poe’
was awarded a certificate of preliminary commendation in January 1974.
PARKS & GARDENS
Borrisokane Town Park includes a popular playground
and a nearby sports field, where hurling, football, soccer
and even cricket are played.
Other features of the park include a duck pond, a
walkway around the park, which is lined with pieces of
bog oak, and at various intervals the walker will come
across displays of poetry, and the Ballycasey Stone
Circle, a formation of rocks millions of years old.
Templemore Town Park is located close to the
centre of the town and has a well equipped children’s
playground, a swimming pool, a GAA pitch, Pitch &
Putt, an all-weather athletic track, a beautiful man
made lake for fishing, picnic tables and walking areas.
Stroll through secluded paths by the picturesque
backdrop of the Blackcastle and the old church with its
18th century graveyard.
Suir Falls
Ballina Riverside Park is an excellent riverside park
and has a seasonal heated outdoor swimming pool.
There are plenty of moorings for cruisers to stop off and
explore Ballina and the jetty offers a platform to fish from next to the
River Shannon. There is also a range of outdoor gym equipment and
an outdoor soccer pitch for the more active person or you can take a
stroll on the pathways which meander along the shores of Lough Derg.
Cahir Park (formerly part of the Butler Estate), with its broad, richlytimbered
lands on the banks of the Suir south of the town, is the
home of the 18-hole Cahir Park Golf Club and provides one of the
most popular walks for locals and visitors alike—the “Coronation
Walk” which leads from the Castle to the Swiss Cottage.
The Richard Mulcahy Town Park, Clonmel, is a riverside park,
which includes a pinetum, some lovely walks along the Suir
and a spectacular poppy field. A short distance to the east,
The Wilderness Gorge is an area of remarkable beauty and
a sanctuary for wildlife and plants.
Carrick-on-Suir Town Park, is a public park which was created in the
1860’s and lies in the centre of the town. Pathways through the park
will bring you on some beautiful walks through the woodlands.
