GIDSS organizes 'Walk against<br />

Violence' to mark Gandhi Jayanti<br />

of Support Services<br />

(GIDSS), a <strong>Canadian</strong> charity<br />

working for the welfare<br />

of poor and marginalized<br />

people in Canada<br />

and developing countries,<br />

celebrated Gandhi Jayanti<br />

by organizing a 'Walk<br />

against Violence'here on<br />

Sunday.<br />

Gandhi Jayanti, which<br />

marks Mahatma Gandhi's<br />

birthday on October 2, is<br />

also celebrated as World<br />

Non-violence Day. Over<br />

100 participant families<br />

raised slogans: 'We all <strong>Canadian</strong>s’,<br />

'We want Love<br />

and peace’, 'No To Violence'<br />

during the `Walk<br />

MISSISSAUGA: Uber​ ​Toronto​<br />

took part in ​volunteer work for the<br />

local charity Seva​​Food​​Bank here<br />

last week.<br />

This corporate volunteer work<br />

was​ ​part​ ​of​ ​the company’s ​first​-​<br />

ever​ ​worldwide `Uber​ ​In​ ​<strong>The</strong>​ ​Community​<br />

​Week’ from September​ ​18<br />

to September 22 to work with​​local​<br />

charities.​<br />

As part of its volunteer work,<br />

an ​Uber​ ​team​ ​assisted​ ​Seva​ ​Food<br />

Bank by​ ​unpacking​ ​deliveries​ ​and​<br />

preparing​ ​food​. ​Uber​ ​Canada​ ​also<br />

made​ ​a​ ​$2,000​ ​contribution​ ​to​ ​Seva​<br />

Food Bank which serves food to on​ ​celebrating​ ​the​ ​communities​<br />

low-income residents in Brampton​<br />

and​ ​Mississauga.<br />

“We​ ​are​ ​thrilled​ ​to​ ​partner​ ​with​<br />

we​ ​serve​ ​and​ ​part​ ​of​ ​that​ ​is​ ​giving​<br />

back​ ​by working​ ​with​ ​local​ ​organizations​<br />

​like​ ​Seva​ ​Food​ ​Bank.”<br />

of paintings by school kids<br />

from different countries<br />

on the themes of child<br />

abuse, domestic violence<br />

and healthy family relations.<br />

GIDSS Executive<br />

Director Raminder Singh<br />

said the organization aims<br />

at promoting amity by<br />

organizing different multicultural<br />

events in the<br />

region. GIDSS is currently<br />

working on many projects<br />

in Canada and abroad.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se include Smart Help<br />

for Senior program, funded<br />

by the Government of<br />

Canada, to end isolation<br />

and abuse among senior<br />

people by teaching them<br />

smart technology and<br />

making them self-dependent.<br />

Every year, GIDSS also<br />

organize an international<br />

student painting competition<br />

in different countries<br />

to focus on various issues.<br />

This year, the event<br />

‘Drugs and Youth’ will be<br />

organized next month.<br />

This summer, GIDSS<br />

organized more than five<br />

multicultural events, including<br />

a basketball tournament,<br />

Summer Fair for<br />

Families, Paint Evening<br />

and Art Competition and<br />

a Seniors’ Multicultural<br />

night.<br />
