GIDSS organizes 'Walk against
Violence' to mark Gandhi Jayanti

BRAMPTON: Gandhian
Initiative for Development
of Support Services
(GIDSS), a Canadian charity
working for the welfare
of poor and marginalized
people in Canada
and developing countries,
celebrated Gandhi Jayanti
by organizing a 'Walk
against Violence'here on
Sunday.
Gandhi Jayanti, which
marks Mahatma Gandhi's
birthday on October 2, is
also celebrated as World
Non-violence Day. Over
100 participant families
raised slogans: 'We all Canadians’,
'We want Love
and peace’, 'No To Violence'
during the `Walk

MISSISSAUGA: Uber​ ​Toronto​
took part in ​volunteer work for the
local charity Seva​​Food​​Bank here
last week.
This corporate volunteer work
was​ ​part​ ​of​ ​the company’s ​first​-​
ever​ ​worldwide `Uber​ ​In​ ​The​ ​Community​
​Week’ from September​ ​18
to September 22 to work with​​local​
charities.​
As part of its volunteer work,
an ​Uber​ ​team​ ​assisted​ ​Seva​ ​Food
Bank by​ ​unpacking​ ​deliveries​ ​and​
preparing​ ​food​. ​Uber​ ​Canada​ ​also
made​ ​a​ ​$2,000​ ​contribution​ ​to​ ​Seva​
Food Bank which serves food to on​ ​celebrating​ ​the​ ​communities​
low-income residents in Brampton​
and​ ​Mississauga.
“We​ ​are​ ​thrilled​ ​to​ ​partner​ ​with​
we​ ​serve​ ​and​ ​part​ ​of​ ​that​ ​is​ ​giving​
back​ ​by working​ ​with​ ​local​ ​organizations​
​like​ ​Seva​ ​Food​ ​Bank.”

of paintings by school kids

abuse, domestic violence
and healthy family relations.
GIDSS Executive
Director Raminder Singh
said the organization aims
at promoting amity by
organizing different multicultural
events in the
region. GIDSS is currently
working on many projects
in Canada and abroad.
These include Smart Help
for Senior program, funded
by the Government of
Canada, to end isolation
and abuse among senior
people by teaching them
smart technology and
making them self-dependent.
Every year, GIDSS also
organize an international
student painting competition
in different countries
to focus on various issues.
This year, the event
‘Drugs and Youth’ will be
organized next month.
This summer, GIDSS
organized more than five
multicultural events, including
a basketball tournament,
Summer Fair for
Families, Paint Evening
and Art Competition and
a Seniors’ Multicultural
night.
