OHS will hold parent-teacher conferences
on October 18 and 19, from 4 to
7 p.m. We hope you will take advantage
of the opportunity and schedule appointments
with one or all of your child’s
(childrens’) teachers.
This year’s PT conferences will be
held on Wednesday and Thursday. There
is no school on October 20.
Hopefully, the conference will allow
teachers and parents to meet and discuss
the progress of the student. At this time,
VVC Champs!
The OSF soccer team earned their second consecutive VVC championship by
beating GRF on Senior Night on October 3. They finished the year with a 7-1 conference
record, tying BHRA for first place.

Wilt named Comet of the Month
Ford honored for spirit; Durst is top athlete
The OHS Student Recognition

chosen Bailey Wilt to be
the October Student of the
Month.
Wilt was recently selected
as the DAR for the
senior class, as best girls
citizen. Wilt is active in
Comettes and the pep
band.
She is a consistent
member of the honor roll
and has a GPA over 3.5.
Senior Jenna Ford is
the winner of the Character
Trait Award for School
Spirit.
Ford is a member of the
cheer squad, but can also

member of the month at OHS.
Eichelkraut is the Spanish
teacher and sponor of International
Club at OHS, but she is
much more than that. She is always
willing to help students
who are struggling.
Eichelkraut is also a key member
of the Recognition Committee,
finding new ways to shine
the light on the accomplishments
of students and staff.

Upcoming Events:
• October 17 – An admissions rep from Millikin
University will be in the building
• October 18 – Eureka College will send an admissions
rep to OHS.
• October 26 – A rep from Tricoci University of
Beauty Culture will be available to meet with students.
• October 26 – A Ball State University admissions
rep visits.
-- Need help paying for college? The FAFSA (Free
Application for Federal Student Aid) is now open. Seniors
planning to attend a college or university next
year are highly encouraged to complete an application
to see what financial aid they will qualify to receive.
Go to www.fafsa.gov to get started.
-- On November 2, OHS will host a Financial Aid/
FAFSA Completion Night from 6-8 pm. A representative
from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission
will explain the differences between grants, scholarships
and loans and much more in the library at 6 p.m.
Afterwards, the computer labs will be open for any
students/parents who would like to complete their FAF-
SA and/or need help doing so.

Paint the Field Pink
Night is tonight
The fourth annual Paint the Field Pink will be held
on October 13 at Oakwood High School.
While October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
we all have family and friends that are battling different
kinds of cancer. This event is held to bring awareness
and support to all forms of cancer.
We encourage everyone to wear PINK as a symbol
of support and honor to those currently battling cancer
and in remembrance of loved ones we have lost to this
terrible disease.
COMET Stocking caps and ear warmers, raffle baskets,
a Yeti cooler raffle, and other items will be available
for purchase at the game. Stocking caps are $15,
ear warmers are $10. Yeti cooler raffle tickets are $5
each or five for $20.
Shirts from previous PTFPN will be available in limited
sizes and quantity.
All proceeds will go to the COMET POWER OF
PINK Fund.
The COMET POWER OF PINK fund was formed
by lifelong friends from the OHS Class of 1993 with
the intent to be able to offer a little help to families in
the Oakwood School District who are battling cancer.

FFA Notes
Soil Judging team goes to State
For the second
year in a row, the
FFA’s Soil Judging
Team has
advanced to the
State competition.
The team
took first place
in the Land Use
Section CDE that
was hosted by
Musson Farms.
Team members judged soil characteristics, such as organic matter,
texture, and slope, to determine how a field could best be used. They also
looked at what type of tillage could be used given the cropping rotation,
slope, and soil type.
The team excelled at the Section competition, taking seven of the top
10 spots: Noah Ruch (1st), Riley Walker and Zack Fox (2nd-Tied), Mady
Moore (4th), Rachel Cyphers (5th), Jericho Brown (7th), and Chris Winkler
(9th).
Members tour McLane Midwest
On September 27 five FFA members attended the Vermilion County
Farm Bureau Acquaintance Day.
The members toured McLane Midwest with other FFA members
around the county. Participants learned about how food and grocery
items are moved quickly through the third largest McLane Grocery Distribution
center, job opportunities available with the company, and the
importance of safety to their
workers.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

OHS.
The group meets every
