I am beside myself in joyful remembrance of my own journey towards a LIFE IN THE SPIRIT and 

GROWING IN SPIRIT with the community for most of my life and I feel so BLESSED! 

I am blessed because of the happy, holy and healthy years God has given me and my whole family 

to be part of a Salesian parish like St. John Bosco Parish Makati and of a prayer community like the 

DBPG. Not everybody is gifted with such and I am humbled and honored of this FAITH JOURNEY. 

As your head on this our 35th year, allow me to say 3 things to ALL of YOU, my dear BROTHERS 

and SISTERS: 

CONGRATULATIONS for 35 years of living and growing in the Spirit; of humble service to the different 

ministries that God called us to do; of camaraderie, bonding, friendship and family spirit; of selfless 

giving of SELF to others and to the prayer community; of generous sharing of time, talent and treasure…Praise 

God! 

THANK YOU for GOD’s GIFT of person and parish; faith and fellowship; love and loyalty…and to the 

GOD who made it all happen. To the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit; to our Blessed Mother 

Mary Help of Christians and to our father, teacher and friend-St. John Bosco…Maraming Salamat po, 

Lord! You really cannot be outdone in generosity. 

SEE YOU AROUND! Yes, see you not only on Thursday evenings; not only during Masses and other popular 

devotions; not only on special parish and DBPG events and occasions; not only in the different 

activities of the ministry where you belong; not only in our ―own‖ DBPG events but SEE YOU all in

(Back to Basics) 

Bro. Chris Corpuz – Core Head 

The Core head’s aspiration for this year was for 

DBPG to go back to Basics. It was in this year 

that the Core and Heads looked into the basic 

needs of the community. 

It was also in this year that three Groups were 

formed to focus on the community members’ need. 

 

 

 

Job - to provide a means of livelihood to 

members 

Money - to find ways how the community can 

help members financially 

Fun - as the name connotes, is for the 

members to have just that (FUN) 

Activities for this year revolved around these three 

groups. A family day, attended by DBPG members 

and their family took place and resulted into a 

really fun day and bonding among the members. 

This year marked the start of the ―How to Study 

the Bible‖ conducted by Father Ting every First 

Thursday of the month during our community 

mass. 

2013 

Making A Difference & Evangelize 

(MADE) 

Bro. Chris Corpuz – Core Head 

Making a Difference, it’s a simple act or a word (a 

conversation) which touched another person’s life 

or becomes an inspiration to other people. 

As a response to 2013’s Core Head’s aspiration of 

making a difference and evangelize, the C&H give 

talks every 2nd Thursday on topics that will help 

DBPG Members understand the Bible better as an 

intro to reading/studying the Bible. 

Main Topics includes: 

The Purpose of the Bible 

The Bible & History 

How the Bible Came About 

We also brought Outside the Prayer Meeting - we 

conducted our PM in the Chapel of the Botanical 

Garden and it was well attended. 

Pilgrimage to 5 Jubilee Churches were made and 

along with this visited 3 out of the 9 Doors. 

As a display of making a difference, the 

community foregone celebrating a lavish 

Christmas Party and instead donated the party 

funds to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda. Had a 

simple fellowship instead but the feeling was very 

rewarding, we truly experienced the ―it’s better to 

give than to receive‖. 

2014 

Go, Grow & Glow in God’s 

Powerful Words & Deeds 

Bro. Boyet Orofil – Core Head 

2014 can be considered a good year for the DBPG 

in terms of programs and involvement in various 

parish activities. During the annual planning of 

the DBPG, the group approved the proposal to 

change various Core positions into Servant Leader. 

The Core Head position was named as Servant 

Leader for Operations. Core for Internal to SL for 

Parish Affairs and external position to SL for 

Special Events. SL for Worship was established to 

give emphasis on the importance of this positions 

being the main activity during prayer meetings. 

The Secretary position was named to SL for 

Communications, Treasurer into SL for Ways and 

Means. SL for Service was established to focus on 

the outreach, SL for Evangelization for the flagship 

program of CLSS and BCMP and the SL for 

Formation for the trainings needed to capacitate 

the group for an additional learnings. Bro. Ray 

who was then the Elder in charge was elevated as 

Head Servant. 

On this year also, the parish having the vision that 

the St. John Bosco Parish becoming a Shrine in 

the future, through Fr. Degz de Guzman, the 

DBPG was recognized as the parish’ partner in 

making this vision a reality. Through the initiative 

of the DBPG, the petition boxes were placed within 

the parish premises as our way to extend services 

in terms of prayers. The parish then encouraged 

every parishioner including other church goers to

take advantage of the opportunity of having a 

group who will regularly prayed over their 

petitions. The Core Group was assigned on a 

different week to take charge of the counting and 

summarizes of the prayer petitions. The 

Intercessory Ministry regularly meets every 

Saturday for the praying over. Another milestone 

for the DBPG. 

Pilgrimage to different churches paves the way to 

its 2 nd year. On this year the Core and Ministry 

Heads had a whole day of activity of visiting and 

praying in the churches in Bulacan. 

Talking about Outreach, we had our first outreach 

to Makati City Jail were we had a chance to give 

gifts to about a 100 inmates. With the cooperation 

and help of the Punongbayan and Araullo Credit 

Cooperative, this program raises enough fund for 

the food and some Christmas gifts for them. 

Before the end the year, 16 people including the 

Core and ministry officers had our 1 st regular 

Servant Leaders Training. In this training we 

learned about the different types of leadership in 

preparation to the simultaneous ministry election 

held every October. 

Not to mention the 8:00 o clock in the morning 

simultaneous prayers. During this time, every 

member is encouraged to say a prayer for various 

concerns. DBPG is known as every body’s partner 

in prayer. And the many prayer concerns not only 

from members but also from the many people who 

trusted us will proved that the DBPG exist for a 

mission. 

DBPG had never gone out of important programs 

that will answer to the needs of each members as 

well as the parish in terms of involvement and 

assistance. 

2015 

Called to Lead, Called to Pray 

Bro. Mike de Guzman – Core Head 

Being called to be the prime movers towards the 

New Evangelization as Pope Francis encourages 

each and every one of us, its the Don Bosco Prayer 

Group’s aspiration this 2015 to be LEADERS not 

only in our community but in our Parish & Society 

as well... The POWERHOUSE of Prayers. As the 

saying goes, to be a GOOD Leader, you must also 

be a GOOD Follower, which I dream each and 

every member of the DBPG will live by thru Prayers 

and Dedication. With these two traits and 

direction, it will not be impossible for a Brother or 

a Sister to achieve Modern Sainthood... and 

become a BLESSING TO OTHER all THE TIME. 

2016 

KAPATID KO, PASTOL KO 

Bro. Riki Carreon – Core Head 

Kapatid Ko, Pastol Ko! is a phrase sequence 

derived from DBPG’s constant slogan for all its 

recent annual outreaches, Kapatid Ko, Sagot Ko! 

As a way of life, DBPG has made the battle cry, 

Kapatid Ko, Sagot Ko! as a slogan for outreaches 

where gift baskets are distributed to less fortunate 

brothers and sisters. But more importantly, 

Kapatid Ko, Pastol Ko! focuses on God’s challenge 

that we are responsible to Him for other people on 

helping fellow members and non-members as well 

develop spiritual disciplines. It inspires members 

to shepherd one another and together grow 

spiritually. One opportunity that was introduced is 

the provision of talks on the lives of saints every 

2nd Thursday of the month. The group also 

accepted the challenge slogan of Rev. Fr. Renato 

―Degz‖ De Guzman, SDB, SJB Parish Priest and 

DBPG’s Spiritual Director, Think Parish by 

incorporating the Holy Hour as a regular part of 

the Prayer Meeting every Thursday. Kapatid Ko, 

Pastol Ko! really makes everyone aware that we are 

to exhibit brotherly love toward our brothers and 

sisters in Christ with a tender heart and a humble 

mind thru shepherding partnership. 

As a simple biblical background, the phrase ―my 

brother’s keeper‖ occurs in the context of the story 

of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4:1-9. After the Lord 

God had expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden 

of Eden for their disobedience, Cain killed his 

brother Abel out of jealousy that God had found 

Abel’s sacrifice acceptable, but He had rejected 

Cain’s. After the murder, the Lord, knowing full 

well what had happened, asked Cain where Abel 

was. Cain’s response was "I do not know. Am I my 

brother's keeper?"

THE GOOD FATHER 

A guessing game!

Are you a father? 

father? 

Specifically, are you a good 

A good person is somebody with a favorable 

character, suitable, fit, conforming to a standard, 

virtuous, commendable, etc. while a father is a 

male parent or a person who is in someone’s 

family, while a father figure is a person often of 

particular power or influence who serves as an 

emotional substitute for a father, as defined by Mr. 

Webster. 

Do you consider yourself a good father? 

If a survey is conducted and a DBPG member is 

asked, ―Who he considers a Good Father or a 

father figure in the community, who do you think 

will top the survey? To the new members, do you 

want to venture a guess? The game begins - 

Here are the clues: 

He is young at heart. 

Often seen with his loving wife at Mcdo and Jolibee 

for a hearty breakfast. 

He is soft spoken, amiable and approachable. 

He has 6 loving and intelligent children. 

He hails from Iloilo. 

Are the clues enough? If not, here are more clues: 

A committed servant with unflickering dedication. 

The main man of the DBPG newsletter, The Rays 

of Light. 

A CLSS graduate in 1980 / Served as a Lay 

Minister / The first SJB PPC Head. 

He had served as core head, the longest (1986 – 

1995, 1999-2002). 

DBPG’s Servant, Elder In-Charge. 

His family was recognized and awarded as a model 

Catholic Christian family. 

If the above-mentioned facts are not enough, 

consider the following heart-warming experiences 

from a number of DBPG members: 

A. Many years ago, the management of a 

company decided to close their Manila office. 

As a result, all employees were then displaced. 

A DBPG member was one of them. One 

Sunday, the phone rang. At the other end of 

the line, The Good Father, said: ―I checked the 

Manila Bulletin today. There are many jobs 

opening which you may want to apply.‖ The 

efforts to check the newspaper, to call and 

convey a message of concern will only come 

from a good father! Do you agree? The DBPG 

member expressed her gratitude and will 

forever be grateful. 

The Good Father is more often than not, vocal 

and appreciative of a member’s achievements 

or tasks done satisfactorily. His famous 

―stupendous‖ adjective had been commonly 

used to express his appreciation. 

The Good Father’s wife is also such a gracious 

lady! She loves to cook. She would then love to 

share her baked macaroni if there are birthday 

celebrations, fellowships or other gatherings. 

She is soft spoken, kind-hearted and well loved 

by everyone. 

Guess who? Her first experience of a 

household meeting was in the Good Father’s 

house. 

B. A long time ago, a DBPG female member was 

indignant by a comment made by a male 

DBPG member which she overheard. The 

female member firmly decided to discontinue 

attending DBPG activities. The Good Father 

reached out and talked to her. Lo and behold – 

the female member was appeased and decided 

to go on with her service and has become an 

active member of the community until now. 

Guess who the female member is? Clue: She is 

a member of a prayerful Ministry.

C. So many years ago, a new DBPG member was 

oftentimes invited by the Good Father to have 

dinner with his family and his loving wife 

would oftentimes give her something to eat for 

breakfast. She was then living away from her 

family so she was so touched and truly 

appreciated the Good Father’s invitations and 

truly appreciated having a second family in 

DBPG. 

One time, she did not attend a facilitators 

meeting as she had then personal concerns. 

She felt that she was not emotionally ready to 

serve at the time. The Good Father met with 

this kind hearted lady and a sharing ensued. 

She then realized that service is a commitment 

and feelings and emotions should not get in 

the way of serving God. This DBPG member 

has been a very active member of DBPG and 

her commitment to serve is worthy of 

emulation. 

When the Good Father was hospitalized, he 

would send text messages to this DBPG 

member and would give instructions about the 

DBPG newsletter. The DBPG member was truly 

inspired by the Good Father’s dedication that 

even while in sick bed, the Good Father was 

still very much concerned with the DBPG’s 

publication. 

Can you identify this gracious lady? 

D. This DBPG member truly admires the Good 

Father for his dedication to DBPG, his 

attendance to the DBPG activities even if he 

has difficulty walking. The Good Father is like 

a true father to her and also her confidant 

even in sensitive and confidential concerns. 

Clue: She lives far from Makati. 

E. The Good Father’s comforting words and hugs 

during challenging moments made this DBPG 

member realized that membership to a DBPG’s 

governing body is really such a blessing. The 

Good Father can melt one’s heart, has the 

wisdom to help in decision making and will 

always be the DBPG’s big Tatay. 

F. Sometime in 1988, a DBPG member had to 

move out from her Makati residence to Cavite. 

She was then so concerned of the challenges 

attendant to the transfer of residence. The 

Good Father learned about her impending 

transfer. He then brought to her house several 

big boxes that she used to pack her things. 

She was so touched by his assistance. She 

is…. ? 

G. The Good Father is not only a father figure but 

a real father to most DBPG members. His 

wisdom is beyond religiosity and his years in 

the corporate world are certainly a big factor to 

reckon with. 

A DBPG member was almost in his 10 th year of 

service in his job as a Manager; he was already 

then entitled to avail himself of an early 

retirement. Then, a job offer came with a 

salary in US Dollar, not a managerial position 

and the nature of the job was totally new to 

him. He was in his crossroad of his career. 

He then sought the advice of the Good Father. 

They had a session of weighing the pros and 

cons. He asked the DBPG member to pray for 

wisdom from the Holy Spirit. He then took the 

leap of faith and embraced the fear of the 

unknown. 

The rest is history. What and where he is now, 

he owes it to the Good Father. 

Can you guess who he is? 

H. Sometime in 1987, this DBPG member 

attended a Bible Seminar called ―The Joy of 

Discovery.‖ Since he lacked the resources, he 

then decided to discontinue after knowing that 

he had to pay for the cost of a book. He 

returned the book to the Good Father. He then 

later learned that the Good Father went to see 

him in his residence and returned the said 

book with the message for him ―to go on with 

the Seminar and not to worry paying for the 

book.‖ He was of course so touched and 

completed the seminar. He is Bro……?

I. In 2008, a sister attended the CLSS. After 

graduation, she proceeded to attend the prayer 

meetings. At first, she was so uncomfortable 

because she was new and did not know the 

members of the community. It was the Good 

Father who made her feel that ―she belongs.‖ 

This DBPG member has been active since then 

and has become a Ministry Head. Guess who? 

Her name starts with letter M. 

J. Every time he had a chance, the Good Father 

would often times encourage a sister to 

regularly attend the prayer meeting and strive 

to also serve as a leader in the community. He 

probably thought that she can be a leader. 

This DBPG member though believes that she 

can only be a good follower. The Good Father 

continued to motivate her to be committed and 

be an active member of DBPG. This sister hails 

from Iloilo so she had always been comfortable 

dealing with the Good Father, also an Ilonggo. 

Can you easily identify this DBPG member? 

K. The Good Father had 2 remarkable traits: 

constant prodding and his reminders served as 

guidance for every DBPG event/undertaking. 

He had been pro-active and well organized. 

Secondly, he had a keen memory of all DBPG 

members and one can be assured of a special 

place in his heart. Clue: She has 2 lovely 

children. Who is she? 

Kudos to the previous and new set of DBPG 

leaders! DBPG’s wonderful journey can be 

attributed to the past officers, the Good Father 

and its current leaders. 

The members of the DBPG community will 

forever be grateful to the Good Father who was, 

who is and will forever be an inspiration to the 

DBPG community! His unwavering dedication 

– for sharing his time, talent and treasure and 

more importantly for being a good father not 

only to his biological children but to his 

children in the community as well, are all 

worthy of emulation. Indeed, the Good Father 

is a blessing to everyone! 

The guessing game ends here…. 

Who is the Good Father? Who are the sharers from 

A to K? 

If you can correctly identify the Good Father and 

all the 10 sharers, you are truly admirable! You 

may let the author know. 

The Good Father touched and inspired so many 

members of the DBPG community. These are just 

a few sharing’s from DBPG members. It is with 

absolute certainty that there are many, many 

more heartwarming stories about the Good Father 

but no longer included in this article. 

Years ago, there was this feeling of concern of 

DBPG’s future in case of the Good Father’s 

retirement. The concern was valid. It was likely 

because the Good Father had been the person to 

turn to in cases of DBPG’s pressing issues and 

concerns. This thought lingered for quiet sometime 

until it was brought to the attention of the Good

Operations and Parish Affairs 

As we enter another milestone in our grace-filled 

community history, Servant Leadership for 

Operations and Parish Affairs gives us the 

opportunity to be ONE not only within DBPG but 

with the Parish as well. It shows perseverance in 

leading the group to be the ―POWERHOUSE OF 

PRAYER‖ in the parish thru the various blessings 

the Lord has given to each and every member. 

Every year the Lord inspires us to follow a specific 

direction from BACK TO BASICS, to MAKE A 

DIFFERENCE ...EVANGELIZE, GO, GROW, GLOW 

FOR THE GLORY OF GOD, CALLED TO LEAD 

CALLED TO PRAY AND recently KAPATID KO 

PASTOL KO. Leading the group in this aspect of 

service made us collaborate with Christ’s works as 

we strengthen our own faith and brings it to 

others as well. With the CALL that ―God leads us 

all to be great Leaders‖. God blesses our Group 

with various community activities which enriches, 

not only our Personal Development but Spiritual 

Growth as well such as : 

CORE Members act as speakers in CLSS and 

BCMP, but with other modules as well like 

Lives of Saints and Introduction to the Bible 

Synchronized Ministry Elections every First 

Saturday of October 

And The 8 o’clock A.M. DBPG Simultaneous 

Prayer 

Another mission that this Servant Leadership for 

Operations & Parish Affairs is thankful for is to be 

part of Don Bosco Prayer Group’s commitment to 

programs of our parish thru the various activities 

both for faith formation and evangelization like: 

Participation in the Parish’s PPA Meeting, 

Planning sessions like SEPP and Parish General 

Assembly, Attending the Lectio Divina every 

Tuesday, Spending an Hour every Thursday’s 

Parish Holy Hour, Joining First Friday Vigil, 

Taking time to attend various processions and 

most especially, continuing DBPG’s commitment 

to lead the Saturday Anticipated Mass

The Don Bosco Prayer Group conducts a Life in the 

Spirit Seminar to have a personal relationship with 

God. Here they experience a life changing process 

by which they are stirred by the Holy Spirit -- a 

special rites where they undergo baptism in the 

spirit 

After graduation, the participants who finished the 

seminar are invited to join the DBPG community 

for a Prayer Meeting – a night of Praise and 

Worship every Thursday 7-9 in the evening. 

It is a unique way of praising God which ordinarily 

we do not do. The Spirit moves the community 

worshipping God with praises in words, singing 

songs by raising hands, clapping, dancing and 

most special way praising the Lord in tongues. It is

a gift praising God in Spirit we do not understand 

but God knows what our spirit meant to express. 

The Prayer Meeting begins with a warm up song 

where the Music Ministry leads the singing and 

dancing -- followed by the enthronement of the 

Bible. 

A Prayer Leader compose of the Core -- leads the 

Praise and Worship every week. A mass is also 

held every 1st Thursday of the month as the 

celebration of the Eucharist is the highest form of 

worship. The other 2 activities of the Prayer 

Meeting is the Fellowship and Teachings. But this 

can also be changed as the need arises or where 

the Spirit leads like the General Assembly; The 

Living Rosary where the mysteries are being 

reflected through life experience; Bible Sharing 

where members are grouped together to share an 

experience by reading a Gospel passage. 

The Praise and Worship is a also a form of 

teaching the community ways by which we praise 

God and they can do it in their own personal way. 

It is compose of the acronym ACTS. 

A for Adoration -- it is giving praise to God 

expressing it in words and after -- a praise songs 

can be sung to express the praising and 

worshiping God with raising of hands, clapping, 

dancing, praising in tongues. 

C is for Contrition – it is humbling ourselves 

before the Lord acknowledging our sinfulness 

asking God’s forgiveness and mercy. 

T is for Thanksgiving—it is giving thanks to God 

al our blessings and everything even problems, 

trials and difficulties. 

S is for Supplication – asking God all our needs, 

blessings, protection, guidance. Lifting up all our 

problems and concerns. It is a humbling way of 

our dependence on God. 

The DBPG is also tasked to pray over all the prayer 

petitions of the Parish. 

The word of God is also of equal importance as 

part of the Praise and Worship with the reading of 

the gospel for Sunday with a reflection and sharing 

of an experience based on the Gospel. This serves 

to give inspiration, strengthening the faith and 

glorifying God. 

The Praise and Worship is not limited to Prayer 

Meetings but also in all activities of the community 

like the retreat, praying over for the sick, and other 

special events. The DBPG participated in the 

communal Praise and Worship wherein all the 

communities of the Parish take part in an evening 

of Praise and Worship held in the church. When 

Fr. Degz took over as Parish Priest he asks all 

communities and organizations to spend an hour 

with God in the Blessed Sacrament in the church 

held every Thursday after the 6pm Mass. It is now 

the 1st part of our Prayer Meeting – meeting God 

in silence so we can have a 

meditative worship with the 

Lord. 

It is my prayer that a deep 

Prayer Life can be established 

through The Don Bosco Prayer 

Group. The Praise and 

Worship in action is also

Communications 

I praise and thank the Lord for being a member of 

the Don Bosco Prayer Group. The group has been 

His great gift to everyone in this community. It has 

truly persevered in prayer. The use of the different 

gifts the Lord has given its members allows them 

to serve not only the parish but others as well. I 

would always consider it a privilege to have been 

called to render services to the community and I 

am glad to believe that it has continued and will 

continue to flourish. 

The Lord has made us collaborate with his works 

as we strengthen our own faith and bring it to 

others as well through our conduct of Catholic Life 

in the Spirit Seminars (CLSS), Basic Christian 

Maturity Program (BCMP), Life of Saints and other 

value formation seminars. In all these activities, as 

your Servant Leader for Communications, God has 

manifested his love by making me his instrument 

in spreading his good news as we provide the 

means such as the Rays of Light, DBPG’s 

newsletter, with information about our programs, 

press releases every time we launch events, 

announcements every prayer meetings. We keep 

records of every minutes of the business meetings 

the Core and Heads held every last Sunday of the 

month. 

The Lord has inspired and enlightened us in our 

pursuit of holiness through our activities and has 

made me experience the joy of my spiritual journey 

with my brothers and sisters in the community.

In DBPG, God has given us 

opportunities to see Jesus in the 

poor in serving them through 

our outreaches. Through these 

activities, our prayers of praise, 

love, honor and thanksgiving to 

God have got its true meaning.

Evangelization and Formation 

Evangelization & Formation are two of the major 

thrusts that God entrusted to DBPG and since 

1982, the DBPG conducted 3 major projects 

namely: 

… Formation 

Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminar 

Basic Christian Maturity program and 

Retreat 

We live more deeply in the spirit thru value and 

spiritual formation activities, primarily the 

retreats. We do our out of town retreats in various 

beautiful houses of prayer and meditation. We tap 

wonderful and gifted retreat masters who shared to 

the community their time, spirituality and their 

lives in order to form us better persons… better 

Christians. These spirit-filled retreats not only 

gives us physical letdowns but refreshing start in 

our charismatic journey. 

… Evangelization 

The goals were envisioned: 

To help participants have a closer, personal 

and intimate relationship with God. 

To help participants yield to the action of the 

Holy Spirit in their lives. 

To help participants be joined to Christ by fully 

becoming part of a Christian community with 

whom they can share their Christian life. 

In previous years, DBPG got the services of outside 

speakers but since 2013, The CLSS and BCMP 

speakers were the enthusiastic and brilliant team 

of the Core group of the DBPG and like the other 

speakers, they are the powerful instruments of the 

Lord to convey His messages to each one of us.

and BCMP:

The Service Ministry as its name connotes is ALL 

about service. It's DBPG's way of reaching out and 

giving back to the less fortunate and the needy. 

It's also an avenue to visit our sick members and 

make them feel that their sickness will not isolate 

them or break their bond with DBPG. 

Through the Service Ministry, DBPG conducts its 

yearly outreach. 

We are now on our 8th year of the KKSK. It all 

started as a DBPG outreach to 100 poor but 

deserving family of the St. John Bosco Parish back 

in 2009 with the theme "Isang Pasasalamat" that 

later on evolved to "Kapatid Ko Sagot Ko" or now as 

it's fondly called KKSK. An annual outreach that 

DBPG does, not only to parishioners but also to 

deserving members. 

For years deserving members of the DBPG are the 

object of the annual outreach. Until we also

decided to let the inmates of the Makati City Jail 

be the beneficiary. For two consecutive years in 

2014 and 2015 they were the beneficiary of 

DBPG's annual outreach. More than 200 inmates 

benefitted from this program. 

In 2016, we shifted our focus to street children of 

Manila through Kanlungan sa ErMa an 

organization that caters to the needs of street 

children in the areas of Ermita and Malate. 

Through the help of a sister from the Welcome 

Ministry we found an outreach partner in Punong 

Bayan and Araullo Credit Cooperative. For the past 

three years (and counting) they have been our 

outreach partner. 

The Service Ministry is also an avenue for DBPG to 

extend educational assistance to deserving 

members or their kin. 

Through the Educational Assistance Program, we 

give monthly allowances and money to augment 

the students’ miscellaneous expenses. This used to 

be for elementary and high-school students only 

now we're extending it for College and Vocational 

Students as well. 

In November of 2015, the Service Ministry 

spearheaded the Joint Dental/Medical Mission of 

SJBP and Caritas. Less than a 

hundred parishioners benefited 

from this exercise.

Brothers and sisters this is 

how the DBPG Service Ministry 

operates. Praise, Glory and 

Honor to our Mighty God 

The Don Bosco Prayer Group always looked into 

the spirituality of its members. Other than the 

talks, seminars, trainings and formations we have 

from our weekly Prayer meetings going to places of 

worship is also part of our regular activities. 

Ministry Heads had our 1st pilgrimage. The group 

had the privilege to visit the 7 Jubilee doors in 

Metro Manila. Followed by the Bulacan pilgrimage 

in 2014 where we visited the churches of 

Immaculate Concepcion, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 

the historic church of Barasoain, the Church of 

the Annunciation and the Divine Mercy Shrine. We 

also had gone with the churches in Tanay and 

Antipolo in 2015. 2016 is a more significant year 

for DBPG for we had 2 pilgrimages with the 

historical churches of Batangas with some of the 

proclaimed Doors of Mercy. And on the same year 

before going to our Annual Retreat in Tagaytay / 

the whole retreatants visited the churches in 

Cavite. Going to these Pilgrim places is a great 

opportunity for the DBPG to experience and 

witness the wonderful creations and structures of 

Christianity manifested in the artworks of these 

beautiful and historical places of worship. 

Other than our spirituality, the DBPG also had 

programs to improve our bonding with each other 

and with our families. Part of it is the Family Day, 

Sports fest and the Team Building activity for 

which we invited our biological families to join the 

daylong activities. In this program we play, we 

cheer, we sing, we dance and we eat with them 

together, another reason to strengthen our ties 

with one another. 

And of course Anniversary celebrations is also part 

of the program for Special Events. In this occasion 

we gladly reminisce the good and inspiring things 

and occasions happened in the many years of our 

existence. We share the gladness / and the joy of 

being a member of the DBPG, together with the 

pioneers which we seldom see 

and new members who 

somehow we wishes to inspire 

them let us welcome one 

another and as one family, give 

praises to the Lord for His 

goodness that He made the 

Don Bosco Prayer Group rise 

and continue to grow as an 

instrument of God’s love.

And Pilgrimage plays an important role in our 

mission to know more of God and experience going 

to the histories of our faith. 

In 2013 Year of Faith, the Core Group and

Ways and Means 

In a community like DBPG - doing works for God, 

fund is very important. However, money is a very 

sensitive issue. There are other groups whose 

members are falling apart because of money 

concerns. It is for this reason that in DBPG, the 

Core & Heads made sure that there is a set of 

policies and guidelines for proper and transparent 

handling of finances. 

The Servant Leader for Ways & Means or the 

Treasurer is tasked to take care of DBPG funds. 

He receives your love offerings, tithes and 

donations and deposits them in a bank account. 

Likewise, he disburses funds necessary to carry 

out the activities. A Revolving Fund is being 

maintained, from which regular expenses preapproved 

by Core & Heads are coming from while 

big ticket expenses for every activity are being 

discussed & approved by Core & Heads and are 

being paid by issuance of a check. 

One of the responsibilities of the Treasurer is to 

call the attention of the Core group when he sees 

that an expense is becoming unreasonable. After 

all, these are funds of the group and we need to be 

prudent in using them, likewise, we are 

accountable for every centavo that you are giving. 

DBPG is a registered non-stock, non-profit 

association with Securities & Exchange 

Commission. It is also the responsibility of the 

Treasurer to comply with reportorial requirements 

with government bodies like BIR & SEC. 

The Treasurer is also tasked to plan ways on how 

to raise funds for the group. Basically, funds come 

from your love offering, tithes, donations and 

pledges for different activities. Also from previous 

members and friends who are regularly supporting 

DBPG. Other fund raising activities include 

souvenir program project and garage sale among 

others. 

2. To strengthen members’ spiritual needs 

through value formation seminars like 

CLSS & BCMP, leadership training, annual 

retreat, monthly community mass and 

pilgrimage among others. 

3. To enhance our prayer meeting and make it 

alive 

4. To enhance interpersonal relationship 

among members through our monthly 

fellowship, family day, anniversary and 

Christmas celebration. 

5. As a member of Alliance of Parochial 

Charismatic Community or APCC, we are 

supporting their activities. 

6. As a mandated organization of St. John 

Bosco Parish, we are committed to serve the 

Lord by supporting the parish and all its 

activities.

9:7, St Paul said ―God loves a 

cheerful giver‖. And the

to you; a good measure, 

packed together, shaken down

You might be wondering, how do DBPG use their 

funds? 

We use our funds in so many ways -

outreach and ongoing Educational 

assistance program.

Music Ministry 

Music and songs continue to play a vital role in 

every Prayer Group or Prayer Community… Here 

in our very own DBPG, the singing and leading of 

Music Ministers are indispensable instruments of 

the ministry’s role… The power to lead every 

member and the whole community in singing to 

worship and praise the Lord even in unison, 

partnered with dancing, clapping of hands and 

even jumping makes a difference! 

Our service is in two phases: 

…in the Prayer Group 

1. In Thursday Prayer Meeting 

We coordinate with the prayer leaders and 

the song choices/line-up to be sung in the 

prayer meeting and power point as well 

2. Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminar and 

Basic Christian Maturity Program 

We teach joyful, action and praise songs to 

the participants, and we coordinate with 

the speakers on songs relevant to their 

topics we manage and organize songs to be 

sung in the Baptism and Commissioning 

Rites 

3. Retreat and Recollection (by the 

Community and by the Parish) 

Prepares songs and it’s power point 

4. We also sing to pay respect to our departed 

community members and members of their 

family by praying and singing through 

Rosario Cantada

1. We sing every 6:00 pm Saturday 

Anticipated Mass in the Parish of St. John 

Bosco. It was through Fr. Roozen when 

DBPG was invited to take the Saturday 

slot. 

1. DBPG Music Ministry has been given the 

privilege and honor to serve by singing in 

the Good Friday Service 

3. We are given assignment to sing on 

important Parish events and feast days and 

we are member of the parish joint choirs. 

4. We support Parish Activities through the 

Parish Music Ministry and Cultural affairs 

known as MOMCA, where DBPG Music 

Ministry is a member. 

Aside from the above, we fellowship together and 

celebrate birthdays, wedding and anniversaries of 

our members.

Intercessory Ministry 

As Music Ministers, we are 

committed to serve the Lord 

through Music… like most of us 

say, ―Nananalatay na sa dugo 

ang pagiging DBPG‖. 

Forever we will sing the 

goodness of the Lord! 

Intercessory Ministry involved a great 

responsibility in the DBPG Community. Serving as 

the community’s power house, Intercessory 

Ministry team gathers all each one strength, 

energy, great drive and spiritual presence in 

asking the Lord for His mighty power with great 

heaviness of spirit and burdens of prayers to carry 

all the very nature missions, programs and 

activities of DBPG community. Gathered as a 

group, approaching and pleading with God as one 

through prayers all your needs and the needs of 

others. Intercessory Ministry is not perfect prayer 

warriors but our hearts’ willingness to serve Christ 

as intercessors through our brothers and sisters 

as our tasks to take all yours and parishioners’ 

prayer requests to the Lord, taking hold of God’s 

will and refusing to let go until his will comes to 

pass. Intercessory prayers takes place as we are 

bringing them closer to God and have stronger 

faith in Him. 

During our regular intercessory prayer meeting 

every Saturday, our precious time with God, after 

contrition, bible reading and reflection, praising, 

adoration and supplication prayers, we read the 

parishioners’ petitions and requests. We lay all our 

hands on them as we pray and lifting them all to 

God and believing that every needs and concerns 

of each person will be met spiritually, physically, 

mentally and financially as we continuously 

praying in tongues and ending in thanksgiving 

songs. 

Intercessory Ministry believes that God is not 

looking for each one abilities but the availability,

faithfulness, patience and selflessness to serve 

Jesus Christ. We continuously supporting and 

actively participating in all DBPG and parish 

programs, activities and special events. 

Intercessory Ministry prays on regular basis for 

our leaders and government authorities, spiritual 

leaders, the Pope, bishops and priests, religious 

organizations, our DBPG community and all the 

people of God for unity and 

p e a c e o f t h e w o r l d .

In the year 1981, the DBPG as a Catholic 

Community always has Welcome Ministry as one 

of the major ministries. We as Welcome Ministry 

serve the role as ushers and usherettes, welcoming 

and assisting members of the Don Bosco Prayer 

Group in coming to our major gathering the Prayer 

Meetings that happens weekly and also true on all 

other activities of the community. May it be new 

comers, new and old members, visitors and even 

strangers we gave our warm welcome and 

greetings all those who come and join. 

In Saint John Bosco Parish, as a community 

DBPG, we are a mandated church organization 

and we are to participate in the activities of the 

church as a Catholic in nature. We animate the 

Holy Eucharistic Celebration of the church once a 

week every Saturday at 6PM anticipated mass. Our 

Music Ministry is the one who sings in the Choir, 

the Intercessory Ministry is in charge of the 

offerings and the prayer petitions of the church 

and we as the Welcome Ministry is the ―Greeters 

and Collectors‖ of the Parish for the celebration. 

And as Greeter and Collectors of the Parish, you 

can see us in the doors of the Church and in the 

collection baskets offerings.
