The Collings Foundation is well known among warbird aficionados for its Wings of Freedom Tour, normally comprised of a B-17, B-24, B-25 and P-51. These “working warbirds” of the Foundation travel the length and breadth of the United States each year, delivering World War Two history to the masses. While this is the most public face of the Foundation, it has been quietly building a collection of historic aircraft that are restored to the highest standard. They recently took delivery of Supermarine Spitfire F Mk. IX BR601, one of the most significant of the surviving British fighters.
