Congratulations to the Comet volleyball team for winning the Regional last nighr.<br />
Earlier in October, they won the Vermilion County tournament for the fourth straight<br />
year AND were co-champs of the Vermilion Valley Conference.<br />

Miss Illinois comes home to OHS<br />
Miss Illinois, Abby Foster, spoke to the Comets<br />
on October 24 in a Homeroom assembly.<br />
Foster is a 2015 OHS graduate and is making<br />
appearances all over Illinois in her role as Miss<br />
Illinois. She spoke about overcoming challenges<br />
and how being from a small school should<br />
not hold you back from your goals.<br />
Following her speech she answered questions,<br />
talked about the Miss Illinois pageant to<br />
the girls and then took photos with students and<br />
staff.<br />
After speaking at OHS, Foster also spoke at<br />
OGS and OJHS.

The Oakwood Area Food Pantry<br />
would like to encourage your family<br />
to participate in the 4th OAFP Turkey<br />
Trot 5K on Thanksgiving.<br />
The race will start at 9 a.m., race<br />
day registration or packet pickup<br />
begins at 8 a.m. There will be trophies<br />
for the top three runners in the<br />
Adult, Senior and Child divisions.<br />
will host a blood drive in<br />
the high school gymnasium<br />
on Wed., Nov. 1 from<br />
9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.<br />
Our goal for the drive is<br />
to collect at least 40 pints<br />
of blood. This could save<br />
the lives of 120 people.<br />
Additionally, CBSI will<br />
donate $250 to a scholarship<br />
fund that will be<br />
awarded to an OHS graduating<br />
senior at the end<br />
of the year if we collect a<br />
minimum of 20 donations.<br />
Every donation beyond<br />
that will contribute another<br />
$1 to the fund.<br />
General requirements<br />
for donating blood are the<br />
individual must be at least<br />
17 years old (16 years with<br />
parental consent form),<br />
weigh 110 pounds, have<br />
eaten breakfast/lunch, be<br />
well hydrated, and not<br />
have donated blood within<br />
the last 56 days. For a<br />

Afterwards, the computer labs will be open for any<br />
students/parents who would like to complete their FAF-<br />
SA and/or need help doing so.<br />

Comet Classic basketball<br />
action returns for 31st year!<br />
The Comet Classic girls basketball<br />
tournament will return to OHS<br />
this November for the 31st consecutive<br />
year!<br />
The tournament was started back<br />
in 1987 and has gone through a variety<br />
of formats over the years.<br />
The teams in the tournament are:<br />
Oakwood, Chrisman, Blue Ridge,<br />
Hoopeston Area, Georgetown-<br />
Ridge Farm, Judah Christian, Rantoul,<br />
returning-champion Tri-County,<br />
University High, and Westville.<br />
Comet Madness is coming<br />
The boys basketball team will be hosting Comet Madness at 6 p.m. on<br />
November 10 in the OHS gym.<br />
The evening will include introductions and a preview of the winter athletic<br />
teams. The wrestlers, cheerleaders, Comettes, and girls basketball<br />
teams will be introduced.<br />
Both of the basketball teams will hold a scrimmage that night.<br />
Admission price will be $2 per student and $3 per adult. No passes will<br />
be accepted.<br />
The tentative schedule for the evening is:<br />
6:00 -- Wrestling Introductions<br />
6:10 -- Comette Performance<br />
6:20 -- Girls Basketball Scrimmage<br />
7:00 -- Cheerleader Introductions<br />

Art looking for bottle caps<br />
In Art we like to practice Upcycling.<br />
Upcycling is the reuse of discarded<br />
objects or material in such a way<br />
as to create a product of a higher<br />
quality or value than the original.<br />
The Art Room is in need of your<br />
bottle caps for future projects. We<br />
will take any plastic caps: Soda bottle<br />
caps, Gatorade, water bottles and<br />
more!<br />
We will take as many as you have<br />
whether it be 5 or 50.<br />
