The University of Iowa College of Nursing is a proud academic collaborator of the Nursing Education Xchange (NEXus): winnexus.org.
NEXus is a collaboration between participating doctoral programs in nursing that allows doctoral students enrolled at member colleges
and universities to take courses that may not be offered at their home institution for a common tuition price. We welcome the unique
insights NEXus students bring from their current universities, and we are happy to include them in our diverse academic community.
College of Nursing PhD student, Julie
Weldon, MSN, RN, serves on the
NEXus Student Advisory Committee,
which typically meets twice a year
with the NEXus administration via
online conference. In summer 2017,
the committee reviewed the “Student
Friendly Vision” document and the
survey results for both fall 2016 and
spring 2017 semesters. The committees
discussed clarifying language on
institutions record NEXus courses on
official transcripts. The input from students about their spring 2017
experience was quite positive. This summer, Weldon enrolled in
course at Virginia Commonwealth University to learn about designing
her dissertation proposal with the Careful Nursing Model. She noted
that, “this NEXus opportunity was a great learning experience, and
helped me stay on track with my progression plan. I enjoyed my
summer as a Rebel.”
