In the Cocuy’s Snowy
In January of year 2016, I went to know the Cocuy’s snowy in the Colombian´s eastern Andes. This snowy actually it is a
mountainous chain to consist of twenty five peaks, some valleys and small lakes. During this holidays I was with my two
nephews Carlos Mario and Juan Manuel, we were knowing the peaks “Pan de Azúcar”, “Púlpito del Diablo”, “El Boquerón”
and “Lagunillas” small lake.
We stayed in a mountain refuge named “Sisuma”. It’s located over 4500 water sea level. We were traveling for two days
between Medellín city and Cocuy’s town. In the mountain refuge the cold was terrible and at night the temperature it
arrived until under five Celcuis degree… it was really cold for us! The weather always was very hard by the cold…. For
example: to go bathroom for to brush our teeth it was a courage act. We waited until night to wash our hands before us to
going to sleep in bed.
During the treks the weather was sunny and the tour guides they recommended us that we should to drink a lot water for
to prevent an altitude sickness. In these small holidays at the snow, we had many situations: a lot cold, dizziness, hunger,
going to hospital, to enjoy of landscape, to go swimming into cold small lake, and other experiences more.
In these holidays the anecdote that I remember most it was to get me in the small lake named “Lagunillas” with my
nephew Juan Manuel. The water was really cold. Juan Manuel and me to going in the water only with underpants because
we wanted to experiment the freezing water and our courage….ja…ja…ja… our entry into freezing water only lasted for a
three seconds because the termical feeling into water it was terrible…brurrr. After we have been jumping for a fifteen
minutes for to warm our bodies, then we get dressed and to continue walking to Sisuma’s mountain refuge…but all it was
sensational!
continuation….In the Cocuy’s Snowy
In the early hours of next day my nephew Juan Manuel to get sick with altitude sickness (it was 1:30am), so we had to
request a ransom for Juan Manuel and go to emergency service at the Cocuy’s town hospital. Thanks to God all finish very
good but we were a lot scarried. On this same day at 6:00 p.m. we were taking an autobus with direction to Bogotá city, for
after to take another autobus with direction to Medellín city.
End.
