Ismaila Awudu, has said it is time accident victims rise up and demand from policy makers a quota of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) set aside to support victims of road accidents in the country. According to him, many people are left to die on the streets and accidents scenes because on many occasions, onlookers and volunteers who help carry victims to hospitals and health posts are asked for deposit before being attended to. Rev Ismaila described such attitude by some health professionals as bad and contributing to the plight of accident victims, adding that” it was time we all condemned such attitudes and put an end to the pains of victims.” He said though there is a quota set aside by the National Health Insurance Authority to •Rev Ismaila Awudu, head pastor of Yahweh Temple, East Legon branch of ICGC, presenting a cheque to Rev. The NRSC boss made this statement last Sunday, <strong>November</strong> 5, 2017, when he presented a cheque for GH 2,000.00 and a free will offering of GH 1,000.00 from the Yahweh Temple, East Legon branch of the International Central Gospel Church, to Impact Souls Mission, an advocacy organisation aimed at providing support for accident victims. He said it saddened his heart to see that despite the effect of road accidents on the economy, multi-million companies, insurance companies and many others are not voluntarily financing road safety campaigns. “Fighting safety on our roads is not singular effort or limited to one institution but a concerted effort from the government, through private to multimillion companies, churches, individuals and foreign partners to help sustain the human force for development,” Rev Ismaila stated. The board chair added that it was time, as a country, Ghana revisited laws governing insurance and insurance claims, adding that though drivers and vehicle owners pay their insurance premium either as comprehensive or third party, when it comes to claims some companies fail to pay. He said on many occasions, officials of the Ghana Ambulance Service have had the cause to complain about the pain they go through in transporting accident victims to hospitals because other vehicles do not give them access to the road in emergency situations. “It has become more important to take a second look at planning and designing of our roads, and lighting, pay particular attention to road signs and also concentrate on retraining drivers on modern way of driving,” he stated. Rev Ismaila called on the general public to support campaigns by the NRSC and efforts by individuals to help reduce carnage on the road in the coming festivities and beyond.
WWW.DAILYHERITAGE.COM.GH DAILY HERITAGE WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2017 • Former President, John Dramani Mahama, Super OD and Mrs Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyer at Super OD’s home at Agona Swedru Avoid partisan politics NEWS DESK REPORT FORMER PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama has said Ghanaians should avoid partisanship politics and embrace unity “for it is only unity that underlies sustainable development.” According to the former President “belonging to a political party is important because it is good for political choices but national development transcends party politics; go for unity and not partisanship,” he told a gathering who thronged the house of veteran actor, Super OD, following the former President’s visit. Former President Mahama visited the ailing ace actor and comedian Super OD of Osofo Dadzie fame at the actor’s Agona Swedru home. The visit, at the behest of Mr Mahama, was organised by the Central Regional Executive members of the National Democratic Congress • Mahama to Ghanaians (NDC) led by their chairman, Mr Allotey Jacobs, and took place immediately after the NDC unity walk held in Cape Coast last Sunday. Exchanging pleasantries with the 82-year-old Super OD, otherwise known as Asonaba Kweku Darko, Mr Mahama told him, “I cannot come to Central Region and close to your home without visiting you, my old friend, to know at firsthand how you are faring.” Mr Mahama wished Super OD speedy recovery and thanked Super OD, his family and the gathering for the warm reception and also the Central Regional NDC executive for not disappointing him in terms of making it possible to visit OD. Those who accompanied former President Mahama to Super OD’s house included Mrs Pokuah Sawyerr, Nana Oye Lithur, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, actor Clement Bonney (aka Mr Beautiful), Mr Allotey Jacobs and other Central Regional NDC Executive members.
