Assembled: Transform Everyday Objects Into Robots
FREE E-BOOK
Author(s)
Eszter Karpati (Editor)
Book Details
Format: Kindle Edition
File Size: 19368 KB
Print Length: 144 pages
Publisher: Jacqui Small LLP; 01 edition (21 Sept. 2017)
Language: English
ASIN: B074SWHDS7
Did you know that you can transform a cheese grater, a few bits of old cutlery and a handful of nuts and bolts into a
household robot brimming with character in no time? Presented like a recipe book, Assembled will inspire you to make
your own bots from random flea market finds and some unwanted junk through 23 quirky "robot recipes".
Each of the 23 robots is shown through the transformation of a group of “found objects” into a finished sculpture with
accompanying instructions on inspiration, assemblage methods and bonding techniques. The projects are
disassembled to their very core to reveal not just the easily identifiable elements used in their creation, such as a
tennis racket, thermos, or bicycle frame, but also every screw, bolt, thread, rope or wire used to assemble them. The
text accompanying each piece comes from the artists and offers a unique insight into the creation and character of
each individual robot. These charming background stories describe the journey from seemingly random, found objects
to a finished, named creation, and are followed with precise instructions on how each piece is put together. A list of
individual components and tools used completes the "recipes".
The three-dimensional counterpart of collage, as an art form assemblage art traces its origins back to Pablo Picasso,
Georges Braque and Marcel Duchamp who famously attached a bicycle wheel to a stool and called it a readymade. The
term assemblages was first used by Jean Dubuffet in the 1950s to describe a series of collages using butterfly wings
while the genre of assemblage art was created in 1961 by Peter Selz and William Seitz who co-curated the exhibition
The Art of Assemblage at the MoMA in New York.

The world is changing. Markets have crashed. Jobs have disappeared. Industries have been disrupted and are
being remade before our eyes. Everything we aspired to for “security,” everything we thought was “safe,” no
longer is: College. Employment. Retirement. Government. It’s all crumbling down. In every part of society, the
middlemen are being pushed out of the picture. No longer is someone coming to hire you, to invest in your
company, to sign you, to pick you. It’s on you to make the most important decision in your life: Choose
Yourself.
New tools and economic forces have emerged to make it possible for individuals to create art, make millions
of dollars and change the world without “help.” More and more opportunities are rising out of the ashes of the
broken system to generate real inward success (personal happiness and health) and outward success
(fulfilling work and wealth).
This book will teach you to do just that. With dozens of case studies, interviews and examples–including the
author, investor and entrepreneur James Altucher’s own heartbreaking and inspiring story–Choose Yourself
illuminates your personal path to building a bright, new world out of the wreckage of the old.

Web site design has grown up. Unlike the old days, when designers cobbled togetherchunky HTML, bandwidth-hogging
graphics, and a prayer to make their sites look good,Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) now lets your inner designer come
out and play. But CSSisn't just a tool to pretty up your site; it's a reliable method for handling allkinds of presentation--
from fonts and colors to page layout. CSS: The MissingManual clearly explains this powerful design language and how
you can use it tobuild sparklingly new Web sites or refurbish old sites that are ready for an upgrade.
Like their counterparts in print page-layout programs, style sheets allowdesigners to apply typographic styles, graphic
enhancements, and precise layoutinstructions to elements on a Web page. Unfortunately, due to CSS's complexity
andthe many challenges of building pages that work in all Web browsers, most Web authorstreat CSS as a kind of
window-dressing to spruce up the appearance of their sites.Integrating CSS with a site's underlying HTML is hard work,
and often frustratinglycomplicated. As a result many of the most powerful features of CSS are left untapped. With this
book, beginners and Web-building veterans alike can learn how to navigatethe ins-and-outs of CSS and take complete
control over their Web pages'appearance.

"I had not cried at all. I was being brave, although inside I felt very scared; absolutely petrified. My body felt
battered, well the bits I could feel did. The rest felt dead. Two thirds of me was dead." This is the incredible
battle to rebuild a life that was shattered in a split second. When Claire was 27 she suffered a devastating
spinal injury in a freak accident whilst eventing. In April 2012 Claire made worldwide headlines when she
walked the London Marathon in a pioneering robotic suit taking 17 days. 'FINDING MY FEET' is the moving
true story of how one determined, courageous young woman had to fight through the darkest days to go on
and have the best days of her life. Claire has already raised over £300,000 to help find a cure for paralysis,
and this book will help provide more vital funds for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation.
"Claire is a distillation of all that we should find motivational- intensely driven, positive and an achiever
despite the horrendous times which she has had to endure" Sir Matthew Pinsent
"Claire has to be the most incredible person I have ever met. She simply lights up a room. To think of the
difficulties she has had to overcome is mind blowing. She is an absolute inspiration to us all" Melanie C
"Claire is a force of nature. Give her a challenge that seems impossible and she will smash it to bits. She
knows no limits, sets no boundaries and never takes 'no' for an answer. Unless you ask her 'have you
finished?' In which case, 'no' is the answer because she is never finished." Clare Balding

A New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book of 2011!
A picture-book delight by a rising talent tells a cumulative tale with a mischievous twist.
The bear’s hat is gone, and he wants it back. Patiently and politely, he asks the animals he comes across, one by one,
whether they have seen it. Each animal says no, some more elaborately than others. But just as the bear begins to
despond, a deer comes by and asks a simple question that sparks the bear’s memory and renews his search with a
vengeance. Told completely in dialogue, this delicious take on the classic repetitive tale plays out in sly illustrations
laced with visual humor-- and winks at the reader with a wry irreverence that will have kids of all ages thrilled to be in
on the joke.

Holocaust featuring new and never before revealed information about the first transport of women to
Auschwitz
Sent to Auschwitz on the first Jewish transport, Rena Kornreich survived the Nazi death camps for over three
years. While there she was reunited with her sister Danka. Each day became a struggle to fulfill the promise
Rena made to her mother when the family was forced to split apart--a promise to take care of her sister.
