them to a reporting station within 48 hours. The Vermont Fish
& Wildlife Department keeps an updated list of big game
reporting stations on their website (www.vtfishandwildlife.

greatly appreciated because it enables us to collect important
information on where and how many of them are taken during

says its public shooting ranges in Hartland
and the West Mountain Wildlife Management
Area will be closing for the winter on
December 15.

ranges in Windsor and Essex Counties which

order to decrease violations.”

Fall Foods Abundant for Wildlife
Vermont Fish & Wildlife is reporting that
several important fall foods for wildlife were
abundant this year.
“Fish & Wildlife staff surveyed 27 mast
stands around the state in late September and
early October and found that beechnut counts
were excellent, with the highest numbers
recorded since 1998,” said State Wildlife
Biologist Forrest Hammond. “They also
found abundant deer and bear sign in the
beech stands.”
Hammond said acorn production was found
to be good in oak stands, and mountain ash
berries were very abundant at high elevations.
He added that apples were available at high
numbers early, but that most had fallen by late
October.
