“Tarbaby!” “Jiggaboo!” “Blanca!” “Dark and Ugly” are just some of the
names I was called as a child. Not by White Children, but by black children.
Kids who looked like me. The joke often spread was that if I took a bath
I could make choclate milk because I was so black. And that the naps in
my ‘kitchen’ or the back of my neck could be used as buckshots in a pellet
gun. My hair was long and natural, and at times referred to as a ‘rats nest’
because it wasn’t long and loose like the girls who would get relaxers.
I find that I’m more than just my hair, lips, hips, ass and thighs. I’m Neosoul
and classic jazz with a side order of rhythm and blues, old school funk and
deep (Afro) house. But I can shake it up by dancing to some classic rock, and
break it down the Wheels of Steel with some old school hip hop. I’m everything
that encompasses being a woman of body, mind and spirit. A woman of peace,
love and light. A woman that serves the community yet doesn’t forget to uplift herself – and other sisters in
the process. I am an advocate for social justice, peace and change. I stand with my brothers and sister on the
front lines combating police brutality, unjustifiable homicides and social-economic injustice. I stand for the
abolishment of modern day slavery and human trafficking. And I love mother earth. With each breath that I
take, inhaling the birth right of clean air, I exhale the hope that Mother Earth will be healed. Her vibrations will
be balanced and her children become one with her energy.
I seek to mind the wounds of slavery for women of color in the African diaspora. I realized throughout my
travels in the military, that in every country I’ve visited, all the people of color (or a darker complexion) were
economically disenfranchised, socially ostracized and spiritually broken. Thus I created SAUDA Magazine in
the hopes of showing my people (all of God’s people) that being dark doesn’t equate to being ugly. Kinky hair
can be (and is) attractive. May you be a size 2 or 22, you can be (and are) beautiful.
I lived through all of this the majority of my life. Abuse from members in my community, often, so called
friends and even family who felt that my complexion was unappealing. I had a young man refer to me as a
primate that he refused to be associated with by simply sitting next to me on the bus.
“The only way that the value of a Black woman will be restored to its rightful state of
Queendom, and the degradation of our worth will be combated is when we as Black women,
from a global perspective, take our power back. When we are able to recognize, appreciate
and celebrate the beauty that all of us uniquely share, we’ll start moving in the direction of
reconciliation within self and feminine righteousness.”
All these things where hurtful. And for quite some time left me emotionally bitter and scared.
Even now my 13 year old niece often questions her features, simply because she’s as dark as I am. She looks
the physical (Eurocentric) features of characters in Animation, because she believes they’re a definition of what
constitutes beauty.
The Solution to these ‘traditional standards’ of beauty would be to create a platform that provided a
‘home’ of self-love, self-respect, and high esteem of women of color. So women and young girls like
my niece can see women who look like them in beautiful, elaborate colors and fashion. In efforts
to combat the desire by so many women from a global perspective to be seen as more European in
features, and not fully embracing African heritage
The Birth of A New
Movement!
Inspiration comes from some of the most unlikely places and
in some of the most unfortunate circumstances. For decades,
black women and young girls have had to socially combat the
many emotional, mental and psychological attacks that have
been waged against the very essence of their overall being.
From the “tigon laws” that required a black woman to wear
head wraps that reduced the attention drawn to elaborate hair
styles in the French Quarters of Louisiana, to the portrayals
of black women in today’s hip hop music and Reality T.V.
as jezebels. Women who share Afro-heritage have always
been subjected to negative stereotypes and superstitions
that have demeaned and demoralized who we really are.
For decades, being dark or having natural hair was seen as
‘bad’ and meant you looked like a slave. Bleaching Creams,
weaves, wigs and colored contacts are used by many women
to escape the realism of seeing their dark skin as a curse.
Subconsciously removing themselves from the possibility of
being subjected to unattractive perceptions of darker skin,
thick lips, a wide nose and natural hair. However, none of
these bleaching creams, weaves, wigs and color contacts
serve as effective methods of non-surgical augmentations,
when the woman within lacks a healthy image of self.
As a result of this desire to be seen as more European in
features, and not fully embracing African heritage, we
decided to introduce to the world “SAUDA Magazine”.
SAUDA Magazine is the Solution! Our desire was to
create a platform that provided a ‘home’ of self-love, selfrespect,
and high esteem of women of color. So women
and young girls like your niece can see women who look
like them in beautiful, elaborate colors and fashion.
What is SAUDA?
SAUDA Magazine is owned by House Of Virgo
Entertainment, LLC a woman and black owned
multimedia entertainment company based in
Houston, TX; that pride itself on providing positive
imagery, restoring honor and integrity to multimedia
markets geared towards minority consumers.
SAUDA Magazine is available in both print
and digital (online) platforms that features:
High end, high quality fashion
Modeling talent
Afro Style
Fashion and beauty tips for women of color
The primary focus of the magazine is to highlight the diverse
beauty of women who both share and embrace African
heritage, as we plan to utilize the multi-dimensional platform
(Film, Photography, Digital Print and Physical Graphics) of
SAUDA Magazine to launch the careers of Afro-Models,
Fashion/Accessory and Cosmetic designers who’re seeking
to break into the Fashion industry; while demonstrating the
classical beauty and uniqueness of non- traditional fashion.
We’re seeking to break the mold that enforces the unrealistic
standards of Euro-centric beauty. Highlighting fashion from
the various countries; with a heavy concentration upon creating
business ventures between African Nationals and African
Americans who work in the fashion and film making industries.
This magazine will place the diverse beauty of women
who both share and embrace African heritage front
and center in the Fashion Industry and on the Global
Runways. SAUDA Magazine will be used as a platform to
launch the careers of ethnic Fashion Designers seeking to
break into the Fashion industry; while demonstrating the
classical beauty and uniqueness of non- traditional fashion.
“SAUDA Magazine understands that the objectification
of Black women via various media platforms is not only
disturbing, but disheartening, especially when it’s our
brothers assisting with the perpetuation of the negative
portrayals of us. There must come a time when the
global community must step forward and do something
to curtail the continued assault on black femininity.”
Model participation in these film festivals combined with
modeling for SAUDA Magazine increases professional
experience, global exposure and industry connections.
SAUDA Magazine is working diligently to host a model
and talent search titled “The Magnificent Motherland”
that will feature stops in Southwest Asia, The Middle
East and throughout Africa come 2018, to include
our Muslim Sisters and their fashionable beauty.
The Main Objective
The Core Principle of SAUDA Magazine is to use it as
a launching pad for the modeling careers of women
who share and embrace their African lineage by
highlighting the natural beauty of Black women from
all walks of life, of varying hues, and of all shapes and
sizes. We will showcase how the diverse beauty of
a black woman’s hair, skin color and physical build
should be celebrated, but can never be duplicated.
Her Blessings In Essence Is
Simply Amazing!
It’s a very interesting story in regards to how this beautiful
little wonder was brought to our attention. I happened
to save her picture to my phone in another forum that I
often frequent – in efforts to get fresh ideas for our feature
magazine layout. And when I saw her image I immediately
saved her picture, because I felt she would fit perfectly into
our idea of diverse Black beauty. A few weeks later my
PR Representative - Ms. La’Rika Marshall - sends me her
picture and biography, stating that she knows this young
woman and her family personally. And that it would be an
awesome idea to do a feature on her in SAUDA.
Let me tell you a little bit about this extremely precious
child. Her name is Amazing! (Represented by CarVer
Communications). She was born in Maryland and is a
5-year old aspiring model of Nigerian heritage. She loves
to sing, dance and she plays violin. Not to mention the
fact that this beautiful creation is bilingual – she speaks
English and French fluently.
She’s currently perfecting her skills at the “Star Maker
Academy” out of Bowie, MD – where she specializes in
Ballet, Tap and Jazz. And has been able to conduct casting
calls in New York City, to include gracing the catwalk with
her style and class at various Fashion Shows throughout
Baltimore, MD. Her unique beauty accompanied by her
bubbly personality will for sure lead to her taking the
modeling and fashion industry by storm.
We’re honored to feature her with SAUDA and are looking
forward to following her career accomplishments, as she
continues her successful career.
Much love and respect to you Amazing!
The Houston 2018 “Kissed By The Sun”
United States that may also become a part of
our first launch edition in 2018. Our goal, is to
continue being dedicated to embracing and
promoting the beauty of Black women with
class, dignity and respect. We are seeking
to promote, support, increase and heighten
interest and awareness of models here in the
Houston regions, while providing them the
opportunity to be discovered by international
filmmakers, screenwriters, producers and
directors in the entertainment industry.
Most importantly throughout the Diaspora.
We’re seeking modeling talent from the
continent of Africa, the United States,
Central and South America, The Caribbean,
My spirit cried with joy, because all the content I’d been
seeking to make this magazine as diversely beautiful
as possible was finding its way to me. And when such
instances happen, you know for a fact that the all mighty
has his hand in it.
“They Hate You Because
You Love You”
By Tashandra Poullard
16 December 2017
Matthew 5:44
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you
Psalm 16:8
I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his purpose.
“You want to become more aware of your thoughts and choose your thoughts carefully.
Because you are the masterpiece of your own life.” Dr. Joe Vitale – “The Secret”
“The first step to the secret of manifestation is to ask the Universe for what you want. Make a command
to the Universe! Let the Universe know what you desire and allow it to respond to your thoughts. The
second step is to believe! Believe that its already yours via an unwavering faith (believing in the unseen),
which will bring you to the last and finally step of receiving. Start feeling how you will feel once what
you’ve asked for has manifested itself into your life (because it will).” Lisa Nichols – “The Secret”
I started off this segment with some positive energy and words
of inspiration.
I give you these scriptures and pearls of wisdom, because it
is my strong belief that most of the chaos we are witnessing
transpire in the world is as a result of a spiritual shift that’s
taking place. Many people are finding themselves under
attack because they’re experiencing an awakening, or a
transformation into what I call “higher self”. While Mother
Earth is working diligently to stabilize the polarizing energies
of positive and negative, into a more harmonic balance, a
paradigm of thought that is exponentially gaining momentum
amongst the newly conscious – is leading both power and
wealth that has been stored and exploited by the wicked to be
shifted unto the righteous and meek whom shall inherit the
earth (and all her riches).
People who were once emotionally broken, fiscally
disenfranchised and in psychological despair are waking up
for the first time in their lives and facing their biggest fears.
The fear of doubt, lack, depression and hopelessness is being
destroyed by a shift from negative to positive, that’s being
transmitted by those who’ve been broken. They’re finding the
courage to step out on faith – while gaining the understanding
that this reality we live is really a dream inside of a dream. In
other words, they’re learning that our current state of being is
as a result of our thoughts. We’re starting to see people fully
understand that our (current state) waking lives are merely
a reflection of the manifestations of our subconscious mind
that (in most cases) is always bringing us our biggest obstacles
and fears. These people are no longer focusing upon what they
don’t want and are starting to focus more upon manifesting
what they do desire.
Example include:
A change in the justice system
Effective advocacy for victims
A transference of wealth
A shift in social reform
Addressing the need for global nutrition and suitable living
So many people are starting to understand that in order to
overcome these obstacles, and to grow spiritually, we must
experience a shift of consciousness. And it’s giving life to
advocacy and activism in many forms. Many of us are starting
to learn the importance of operating in a new mentality that
refuses to be locked inside of a box of conventional wisdoms,
social construct and brainwashed rhetoric.
And this is what’s making some people in your immediate
circle uncomfortable with the new and improved version
of you. Your optimism is a blinding light of truth that they
cannot live in. The more awakened you become the more
opposition you’ll face from the people around you who prefer
darkness. You will find that the attacks you experience will be
more so based upon their inability to understand, appreciate
and accept the shift from the old you (that was bitter, jaded
and locked in despair) to the new version of you that sees the
good in all things and how they are all being used for selfimprovement.
For many of us who are experiencing this shift in higher
thought, we’re learning the hard way that some people want
to stay in a metaphorical stage of continuous “sleep”.
While you are learning the beauty in raising your transmissions
(vibrations) to a level of higher thought and consciousness,
you have arrived at specific points in your lives (higher calling)
that will lead you to greater purpose. But! Understand that
in doing so it will be a challenge to assist with facilitating
the awakening process with others. Most importantly, know
that it will be even more difficult for those you attempt to
December 2017 17
enlighten with self-knowledge to accept your new version of
higher self.
Why? Well, some people lack the emotional capacity needed
to receive your greatness.
Some people are mad at you simply because of the choices
you’ve made in life to do better. You have officially stepped
outside of the box they’ve placed you in – while calling their
love for you “unconditional”. Meaning they only love or like
you as long as you don’t exceed the expectations they have set
for you. They are upset with you because you have made the
choice to live right, eat right and take better care of yourself.
A few necessary steps towards change that they lack the will
power to make. They hate the fact that you have chosen
to further educate yourself and set goals for future success.
And every step that you take towards self-improvement (or
small goals that you accomplish) reminds them of where
they could be if they chose to expend the same amount of
time and energy that you dedicate towards self-improvement
upon themselves. These people don’t understand that in
every second we spend alive, we are making choices that help
determine what future paths we will take. And regardless
of which choice we make, we will always find another fork
in the road ahead of us with more decisions to make. But
the difference between the awakened people and those who
prefer “sleep” is that awakened people A. Don’t give up when
presented with forks and obstacles and B. Don’t allow the
forks and obstacles to stop us from striving for greatness.
Awaken people enjoy the journey of learning, growth and
golden wisdom gleaned from personal experience.
Awakened people understand and embrace the fact that each
time you choose a new path more options become available,
with the knowledge that all options will inevitably lead you
back to the original soul contract that you agreed to prior
to incarnation. Your purpose was determined in life before
Mother Earth birthed you. What you endure in life is her way
of leading you too it! No matter what happens, you know and
understand that all things work together for the good – and
will lead to you ultimately walking into what has already been
predestined (or your reason for being). Once awakened, you
learn how strategic planning will assist you with using the
miscalculations, mishaps and wrong choices you’ve made in
life to grow you into a better, more wise and self-aware being.
These lessons teach you the importance of honesty, integrity,
humility and honor in one’s words and deeds.
Everything you need to become your predestined self is within.
And everything you endure assist you with fine tuning your
gifts, talents, and sharpening the skills that you use effortlessly
– when learning who you are and how you will be used in
the grand scheme of life. Those of us who have undergone an
awakening understand that we must be ok with whatever the
universe brings us, because it’s the universes way of clearing
the pathway to self-discovery. It’s a cleaving process that
removes certain people, changes a specific through process
that was imprinted in our psyche by others and helps us to
heal from past trauma.
Example,
They assist with learning to combat emotional damages
experienced by the principalities placed upon us via the
transgressions of others. They are the reason why you
(unknowingly) do some of the things you do. Life experiences
demonstrates to us how important it is to acknowledge that
these dark spirits are ever-present in our sub-conscious, and
how they must be overcome by learning the importance of
forgiveness. These demons are not yours! They have been left
behind by the people who have hurt you. And you can’t get
rid of these spirits until you learn to forgive the one(s) who
gave them to you.
The emotional blinders that hinders our ability to see when
and where we are wrong and how we have wronged others
must be removed. There comes a time in everyone’s life when
we must start fixing what’s broken within self. The mistakes
we make in life assist with making our imperfections present
and clear, in order to pin-point the origins of our own
dysfunction. Sometimes you must keep repeating the same
mistakes in order to become more open to honestly addressing
the issues that you chose to ignore (i.e. admitting when you
are wrong). The reoccurring issues are used as a teaching
mechanism that incorporates an “In Your Face” method of
demonstration. Showing you that you can’t fix what’s broken
if you are not willing to admit that you ARE the main source
of most of your problems (i.e. your thinking, your behaviors
and attitudes affect your quality of life).
The awakened know and understand that each milestone
in life is assisting with molding our future self, and will
continue to guide use on our life path. We take joy in the
things we learn along the way. We understand that the heart
aches, heartbreaks, disappointments, set back, triumphs
and tragedies are the “breadcrumb” clues that God and the
Universe leaves for us to find our way to back to “self”. The
predetermined destiny that was set before we took our first
breath.
While people who are still asleep are unable to see the beauty
in both trouble and triumph.
They are mad at you because they can’t figure out how no
matter what you have gone through in life, no matter
what they have tried to do to you or the snares they have
implemented to obstruct; you still have your peace. You know
who you are and who’s you are (in priesthood with the most
high), because you understand that you have a higher calling.
You live by the “This too shall pass” mantras because you have
seen the power of positive thinking. You understand that
trouble is only temporary.
You are on a mission and nothing they can do or say will stop
you. They hate the fact that no matter what happens you still
show love. You still speak when you see them. You radiate love,
peace and light in the mist of darkness. You are a beacon to
spiritual balance. And you have great compassion for all forms
of life because you are genuinely a very optimistic person. You
understand the principles of the laws of attraction and are
very careful what energy you put out into the universe.
You understand that love is the greatest force on the planet.
Thus, take joy in knowing that the attacks you face from
people are based upon the fact that you are a “soldier” in the
awakening process. You are influencing more people than
they could ever imagine, just by simply being yourself and
accepting your purpose by following the path that God and
the Universe has set you on.
Over the past 40 years Hip Hop has taken a drastic turn. The craft
itself has been compromised and the platform that once launched
such legendary greats as LL Cool J, Erick B and Rakim, KRS-1
and Guru; is now playing host to luke-warm artist that incorporate
mumble-rap over reconfigured trap hooks. The lyrics are laced with
misogynistic undertones, promotion of domestic violence and rape
culture; to include irresponsible behavior and risky promiscuity.
Jason Adams is here to change all of that!
His Mission:
Jason is here to provide an opportunity for marginalized populations
to spin the promotion of negative lifestyles and stereotypes – into
positive platforms and lucrative business opportunities for the
talented disenfranchised. This desire to help this demographics
birth forward Mean Records. An organization that he’s the CEO of.
Background:
Jason (who goes by the name “jadams”) was born in Jackson,
Mississippi. He grew up in a drug-infested and crime riddled
neighborhood, that soon lead to him becoming a product of his
environment. Like many who fall victim to the fast money and
flashy life style, he thought it was an easy way out of the unfortunate
circumstances out of his control. But he soon learned (the hard
way) just how high the stakes involved in this life style really are
when he landed a conspiracy charge that lead to jail time.
While incarcerated, he had an epiphany. He started to see
things a lot clearer and understood that it was time that he
rethink his life, his actions and create a new avenue that would
assist not only himself, but his community with overcoming
the every day struggles of fiscally broken and socially rejected.
The Conduit to Success:
The best way to reach the “lost tribe” (his people) was through
his passion for music. He had a love affair with music every since
the age of 12, in which this passion was inspired by his father
who was a touring gear manager for numerous music bands. He
lives, eats, breaths and sleeps music. Engaging in lyrical therapy
during the earliest and impressionable stages of life assisted
with him developing craft and musical artistry. And opened
doors for him to becoming gainfully employed/heavily
involved in various projects. Thus, it was only natural that
all of his work in music would be combined as one – and
create the final orchestrated concept of Mean Records - a
full scale recording label and studio in Gulfport Mississippi.
In High Demand:
When the mandate of making entertainment always
noticeable’ became apparent, Mean Records (as a label)
became home to a roster of seven notable artist, as well as
a full-service provider to multiple emerging artist. Various
genres are catered to in efforts to create a musical culture
that changes lives. Running the gambit of musical spectrum,
while mixing and mastering the development of artist careers,
their talents and brand. Mean Records provides a comfortable
environment for development that’s more than a boutique
service. The staff assists with graphic design for album cover
development, distribution and recording services, a “brick
and mortar” building for business deals to transpire to
include creating the media outlet needed to launch successful
music careers. There’s even licensing, manufacturing
photography and marketing services available for those
who’re in need of the “total package” of product promotion.
“Through connections to the label, we have all the
necessary commodities that are needed to complete the
total package. We focus on the artist regardless of the
level, for we emphasize on the passion that you bring to
Mean Records. Whether you are in the beginning stages of
entering into the industry and need strengthening training
for your vocals, song writing mentorship, would like to
learn a new instrument, or simply need fine-tuning of
your current skills; we facilitate and cater to your needs.
Making Entertainment Always Noticeable”
Additional Accomplishments:
But there’s more than one “rabbit” in Jadams hat. He’s also
an accomplished writer, having published a one-year labor
of love project titled: “Mixingology”, a book that serves as
a definitive guide to what artist need to know about the
music industry prior to signing a legally binding contract.
We send nothing but the highest prayers of peace, success
and breakthrough to our brother Jason Adams. We will
make sure to keep a look out for future projects and artist
being birth forward from this empowering and positive label.
“Being responsible for all aspects
of the label, I am involved in every
facet of the label. Mean Records has
a high emphasis standards in getting
music artist out there, personifying
there dreams and working alongside
(aspiring) artist in the making of their
goals. We make their dreams a living
reality! As we cover a wide range of music
genres from R&B, Neo-Soul, Reggae, Hip
Hop, Pop, Gospel, Jazz and much more.”
Rebuilding Trust
after an Affair
By Tashadnra Poullard
A woman wrote into a blog column by author Guy Finley,
a spiritual advisor that provides relationships advice
from time to time, seeking guidance on how to get over
her husband’s infidelity. Of course she was distraught,
and even went so far as to blame herself for his actions.
And for me personally, the advice given to this woman
in regards to how to deal with the pain of her husband’s
affair was some of the best advice that I’ve witnessed.
The column reads:
“Please keep me anonymous…I’m trying to apply your advice to
a light crisis I’m facing, caused by my husband’s infidelity. And
I’m trying to not allow fear or pain to tell me what to do. I realize
that I can only trust God, and that I am perfect in His eyes, but
my question is, how can I not be in pain at the loss of trust and
intimacy with my husband?
Wasn’t that what I was supposed to gain through marriage?”
Guy’s perfect response reads:
“It’s never easy when we find ourselves in these kinds of painful
situations. And I hope that the following words of advice and
encouragement will assist with making some sense of the situation,
even if not right away. And that in the days…weeks…and
months ahead you’ll receive the help they’re intended to bring.”
First things first, your pain is not to be denied, but rather used
by you. Meaning instead of allowing it to use you ‘up’ with
useless self-condemnation, or raging regret and resentment
towards your husband, learn to use it.
How is that done?
Start by realizing that your sense of loss is as great as it is
because you wrongly believed that you could find the
wholeness your heart longs for in the eyes, heart and
mind of another human being. Yes! a good relationship
can and should bring us happiness, joy and a sense of
love, these are good things and are a part of the simple
pleasure of being human. But the real reason for our
relationships with others is for an altogether different
reason. Which is of a higher order that can be stated
as such: relationships (whatever the nature) are there
for us to learn the truth about ourselves through them.
Your husband’s actions are not a reflection of
your character or anything you’ve done wrong
unless you insist on seeing yourself that way.
Now, I add (me Tashandra) that any woman or man in
such a situation should take this time of reflection to
look within yourselves to figure out what constitutes
happiness for you vs. seeking it in other people.
Guy goes onto say that he advises she not allow this
unfortunate situation to cause her heart be overcome with
bitterness, and lead her into the belief that real love doesn’t
exist. Because it does but the lesson instead should be
that she (and everyone else) should learn to look for love
in the right paces. Whenever we discover (as we always
eventually do) that everything, even the best of things is
only temporary, it is then that we’re on the right path to
finding what is everlasting and that already lives within us.
Here’s some DO’s and Don’ts of Getting Past An
Extra-marital Affair
To better understand extra-marital affairs, Christian Post
Guest columnist Joe Beam Breaks down how it affects
those involved:
The Short-Lived Affair: Last from one night to several
months and is primarily about sex. Subcategories include
revenge affairs. Were you’re trying to get back at your
spouse. These are the affairs of opportunity (at the right
place…at the right time and doing the wrong thing)
and are often called “self-esteem booster” affairs. I have
some friends who’ve confided in me that they’ve had the
self-esteem booster affairs, were they’ve found someone
who’s accepted their looks, their weight/size or made
them feel better about themselves in exchange for sex or
to provide a comfort that they lack from their spouse.
The Allowed Affair: this is an interesting one because
it has become more prevalent with the graying of what
constitutes marriage. Once referred to as ‘swinging’ or
open marriage is now called “the life style” by willing
participants. Were one spouse (or both) are allowed to
have girlfriends/boyfriends and/or sleep with other people.
The most difficult kind of affair to overcome is...
The Relationship Affair: This affair typically starts
as a friendship that evolves into shared emotions and
eventually shared bodies. These in Relationship Affairs
usually are in love with one another and in some cases
madly in love and unable to stop the affair. Thus the reason
so many relationship affairs lead to separation or divorce
because no matter how strongly you attempt to break
away from the union or how much work the abandoned
spouse puts effort into trying to save the marriage, the
affair never ends. And in such unforeseen circumstances
such passages as Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:9 are
incorporated by the church to grant the offended spouse
the right to start a new life with a new mate, and few
ill blame him or her for moving on with their life.
So how do you save these marriages?
I’ve found some suggestions that people have provided
to men and women facing a pending divorce as are result
28 December 2017
December 2017 29
of an affair. Some of which I agree with and disagree
with - and I’ll say why (my answers are written in red).
The councilor suggested advice was given in relation
to healing for the abandoned spouse during an affair:
Believe that an affair, even an exceptionally strong
Relationship/Love Affair, is not necessarily the end of a
marriage. Many advise that the abandoned spouse not
give up on the marriage and to keep praying and doing
the right things, no matter how hopeless it may seem.
Speaking for myself, I agree and disagree with this statement.
For the simple fact that it’s not about you praying for their
change in heart, because that means nothing if he or she
doesn’t desire to make a change and fix what’s broken within
themselves – while communicating resolve with the spouse
they’ve abandoned. Instead pray that you find the courage
within self to listen to what God and the Universe is telling you
in regards to what step you should take next in this situation.
Yes- I do agree that you must pray God gives them
peace, most importantly that God provides peace for
yourself; but I honestly wouldn’t pray they eventually
‘see the light’ and do what’s right. Particularly for
women (and some men) who’re in abusive unions.
Don’t beg or attempt to manipulate the adulterer. She or he is
already emotionally on edge, and emotional actions from you
exacerbate the situation. Be firm, but always loving and calm.
I’ve been in this situation before. I’ve witnessed women
in my family be in this situation before. And I personally
advise that your remove yourself from a potentially
hostile environment and do not allow yourself to
be subjected to his or her emotional instability and
abuse. Because no matter how clam you are (as the one
being cheated on) he or she is not in a place of mental
stability. Which threatens your safety and well-being.
Don’t try to convince him or her that the extra lover
(or lovers) is a bad person or is primarily responsible
for the affair. This tactic may work in a Short-Lived
Affair. However, it typically causes a person in a
Relationship Affair to develop an “us against the world”
union with the lover and strengthening their bond.
In other words, it’s not the other person (or people) who
made them cheat he or she did so because they choose
to do so. Thus I…MEANING ME PERSONALLY
wouldn’t waste breath or time on a clock trying to make
the other person look like a villain. If anything I’ll help
you out by packing my bags and moving on myself.
I DO NOT agree with this one!
Drag out any divorce proceedings as long as
possible. Relationship experts state that the intense
emotions involved with being “madly in love” with the
extra-marital spouse last anywhere from six to thirty-six
months. Though the straying spouse may become angry
and try to manipulate the abandoned spouse into divorce
(e.g. “I’ll make things tougher for you if you don’t go
along with me ...”), the abandoned spouse should be
strong and endure the other’s wrath by dragging out the
divorce process as long as possible. There is a very real
possibility that the abandoning spouse will eventually lose
the intensity of desire to be with the lover. Don’t give up!
I’m sorry! But if you feel what you’ve found in the other
woman or man is better than what you thought you have
or had in me, or even possibly would have in me…. let
me help you out chief! We’ll sign them papers and keep
it moving. Again…I love my life…and I love me. Life is
too short and tomorrow is never promised. So I’m not
going to allow myself to spend extra money and energy
trying to make you miserable so you can come back to me.
It’s just not that serious.
The abandoned spouse should demonstrate his or her ability
to survive and prosper without the abandoning spouse. He
or she must concentrate on physical, mental, emotional,
and spiritual health. This accomplishes two things. 1)
The abandoned spouse needs this for him- herself. 2) The
abandoning spouse often is drawn back to the abandoned
spouse when He or She continues to be strong and self-sufficient.
I agree and disagree with this statement. I agree that you
should do exactly as this statement says, but do it for you!
And not for them. Do it for your child(ren) in efforts to
build a better life for them and yourselves. Now if ol’ boy
or ol girl want to be in the lives of the kids….DO NOT
stop them from doing so. But do not go out and attempt
to do the right things for the wrong reasons…trying to
show someone else up who’s not even thinking about you.
In fervent prayer ask that God to bring chaos, financial
distress, and anything else He will do to cause pain as a
result of the sinner’s actions and to create circumstances so
that it is difficult for him or her to continue in the affair.
NO SIR! NO MA’AM! YOU DO NOT pray for the worst
over anyone. If anything you pray for the best…pray that
God has mercy on them (understanding that vengeance is
the lords and not yours) and most importantly you pray
that God gives you the grace and mercy in your heart to
find the courage to forgive them for their transgressions,
so you don’t be foolish enough to make the next man
or woman pay for what he/she did. Holding onto
bitterness towards those who’ve hurt you by praying the
worst for them is not of God! If anything thank God for
exposing to you who they really are, and keep it moving.
The abandoned spouse should procure an attorney that
will protect his or her rights, finances, and the like.
The attorney should make the divorce as painful
as possible - financially and otherwise - to the
abandoning spouse while still protecting the interests
of the abandoned spouse. Expect the abandoning
spouse to react with anger. However, making sin have
strong negative consequences is the right thing to do.
Yes and No. Hire an attorney that will protect your
assets and interest - but again do not waste time nor
energy trying to make someone miserable. It’s not your
place or right to make them suffer for their actions.
The church should practice discipline, though in
our day and age that hasn’t nearly the effect it had in
biblical times. It’s so easy now to walk down the street
and go to another church. However, if done in love
and compassion, it still may have the needed effect.
He advises that the church ‘chastens’ the unfaithful
spouse, but I don’t agree with that either, because
in many cases that I’ve witnessed personally, the
cheating spouse isn’t into church. So not only is that
a waste of advice, but again a waste of time. And it’s
no one’s business what’s going on in your marriage.
And DO NOT bring other people into your personal
affairs. That includes family, because that’s none of
their business and these people will still be judging
your spouse for their transactions (as if he/she did
something to them personally) after you’ve moved on
and have forgiven them. And do know that you’ll look
really stupid and untrustworthy to your spouse when
you’re trying to mend broken fences if it gets back to
him or her that you’ve told everyone their business.
Convince the straying spouse to take one last action before
ending the marriage. Sometimes the abandoned spouse
does this by offering a concession such as, “I’ll give on this
point in the divorce if you do this.” Sometimes a friend,
church leader, or even the person’s child may convince
him or her that, for conscience sake, he or she should do
one more thing to see if there is any hope for the marriage.
I’m sorry, I can’t do this and I won’t advise anyone else do
it. If he or she wants to leave, again don’t stop them. I’m
not going to bargain with anyone and make compromises
with someone who’ve proven they can’t stay faithful.
IN closing, when the man I (thought) I loved left me for
another woman, it was the best thing that could have ever
happened to me. While I was in the relationship with
him I couldn’t see him for who and what he really was.
I was what a call “In love with the idea of being in
love” that I couldn’t see that he didn’t love me as much
as I loved him. We all have our perceptions of what the
perfect match looks like for us. And he was my idea of
“perfect” for me at that particular stage in my life. What
I didn’t know (nor care to see) at that time was that:
A. I wasn’t emotionally and psychologically ready for
a marriage: I thought marriage was what I wanted
because everyone was telling me that was the next step
in my life. I was educated, I had a successful career in
the military and I was ready for a family – but it was
all a vision that others had passed to me, based upon
their ideas of gender-roles, the traditional family unit
and their definition of success. I couldn’t see that I
still had some emotional baggage from past traumas
(my childhood) that need to be resolved before I could
build a foundation for marriage with anyone. And had
I married the man I thought I loved then, I assure this
Column would have been addressing my marriage.
B. I didn’t understand how hard marriage really is:
It’s not easy being married! Everyone I speak with
that’s married all tell me that marriage by far is one of
the hardest things they’ve ever done. It’s not for the faint
at heart. It takes time to build a stable foundation of
love, trust, humility, honor, integrity and respect in a
union. Especially I today’s age of superficial expectations
and selfish fulfillment. If you’re not will to make just
as many sacrifices as you demand your spouse make for
you, it won’t’ work. Because you can’t get anything more
out of marriage than what you’re willing to put into it.
Black Dollars and the Jack Pot: A Call
to Potential Investors
Back in 2013, I conducted a survey of Black women
in the state of Florida, mainly within the City Limits
of Miami, FL. Where I simply showed them pictures
of some of the women highlighted in our magazine
prototype. And I asked if they would be willing to
purchase a magazine that featured said women, but was
also inclusive of women of Afro-Latino/Hispanic/Mexican,
Caribbean, Southwest Asian and Pacific Islander heritage.
The answer was overwhelmingly yes by at least 98%!
Many of the women were ready to purchase the magazine
on the spot because they thought it was currently for sale.
No other magazine is doing this! There’s isn’t a magazine
in the United States that’s taking their mission of Black
feminine empowerment to women in other countries,
and combining it with black empowerment here in the
U.S. to include Multimedia Business opportunities.
We are marketable and accessible to all women! Affordable
and inclusive! Other magazines may feature stories
on models from other lands, but they’re not actually
traveling to these locations and doing an entire edition
on these women their beauty, culture and heritage.
The Buying Power of The Black Dollar
As Black buying power continues to increase, rising from its
$1 trillion level to a forecast between $1.3 to $1.5 trillion
by the end of 2017. Black buying power has seen an 86
percent increase since 2000 - and accounts for 8.7 percent
of the nation’s total. The growth in black buying power
stems in part from an increase in the number of blackowned
businesses as well as from an increase in education
among the African-American population, which leads to
higher incomes. Despite historically high unemployment
rates, Blacks or people of African heritage have shown
resiliency in their ability to persevere as consumers. African-
Americans continue to be significant consumers and heavy
influencers of goods and services purchased in the United
States. As an entrepreneur, the (real) challenge is determining
how to successfully tap into this significant amount of
purchasing power to provide value and make a profit.
SAUDA Magazine is working diligently to
commandeer roughly half of this market!
Our Advantage
We have what’s called a “Distinctive Competence” meaning
we have a competitive advantage because we are not just
U.S. based. No other magazine for Black women caters to all
women of the African diaspora. What (well known) media
outlet can say focuses on the beauty needs of Black women in
Spain, to the South of France, much less travel to Norway and
Mexico to feature the beauty of women who share African
heritage in these regions? That’s a completely different market
and demographics that is ripe for harvesting. We are breaching
boarders while pulling from international resources creating:
International Investment Potential: Our investors here in
the U.S. have the option to engage in various business ventures
that would transpire from doing business with various media
companies and platforms overseas. SAUDA Magazine is an
international brand that serves as a conduit between U.S.
(Black owned) backed dollars and investments that can become
a launching pad for potential investments with our partners
overseas. Especially as it pertains to fashion and mechanizing,
multimedia platforms and the entertainment industry.
If I had to break it down, these are the main components we
offer an investor:
We Assist With Finding the Money – We can provide
digital media that will assist our investors with becoming
more ‘appealing’ to potential business partners – building
an international brand for our customers and clients. We
are working diligently to utilize our connections to the
film industry - assist with hunting down product investors,
and providing film incentives via product placement,
even announcement of pre-sales via our magazine.
Distribution - Building relationships with global
sales agents in other countries, film festival
organizers and producer reps assist our investors with
making additional connections in sales and film.
Casting – Some of our models could
become the new face of your product!
Audience Research - You might not have the resources
of a studios marketing dept. but we can assist with
that by producing the media needed to reach your
targeted demographics and broadcasting your brand.
Monetary Funnels – We scratch our investors back
and they scratch ours. Our magazine could serve
as an additional financial outlet (via print, digital
media and film) that can convert our domestic
investors brands into an international brand.
Aesthetic Taste/Production Value – Via our
advertisement department we can create the
visual look and appeal of the investment brand that
can be later incorporated into independent films, via
the company website, press kits and printing material.
Giving Back To the Community
We are seeking to employ TSU, University of Houston,
The Art Institute of Houston, Houston Baptist University,
Rice and Houston Community College and international
college graduates as not just interns, but our PAID staff!
We want students to have JOBS as soon as they graduate in
Public Relations
Commercial Advertisement
Business Sales and Acquisition
Graphic Design
Website Development
Video Production
And Photography
TV and Radio Broadcasting
Journalism
Fashion Design/Interior Decorating
Copy Writing
Not only will our potential partners be investing building
the foundation for SAUDA, but they’re assisting us with
create opportunities for Black models and college graduates,
while creating job opportunities in the Houston, New
York, Washington D.C., Miami, FL, Los Angeles, CA,
Artistic Freedom
Being an artist in this day and age seems relative as everyone
is labeling themselves as an artist. So what does it mean to
be an artist? An artist in my opinion is a creator. They are
in touch with their emotions deep enough to share with
others the inner rhythms that drive them. I use art as a form
of expression and artistic freedom. In addition to painting,
I enjoy writing essays, poetry, screenplays, books and
expressing creativity around the house. It is something that
I am not something that I do. Art is a part of me as much as
my eyes. I was born with it and have found it hard to express
in this world. Please feel free to enjoy some of my work
and know that it comes from a place of artisitic freedom.
-Erline
Erline Germain is a breakout visual artist. Her color and abstract
driven paintings are inspired from the innate representations of her
emotions, dreams, and life experiences. Her original works stem from
a vivid imagination based on capturing the essence of bold, strong,
and vivid colors. Her comprehensive works are heavily influenced by
the Abstract Expressionism movement present in the 1940’s and 50’s
as well as the works of Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, and Pablo Picasso.
Erline uses movement, shape, color, floral schematics, and abstract
insights to reveal a once silenced voice. She started painting when
there seemed to be nothing left to live for. Her life took a tragic turn
as her all her relationships crumbled and her spirit was broken. This
caused her life force to become severely depressed. Erline was born
in Haiti and battled with her identity and voice as she grew up in
America. She experienced the multiple societal standards of both
cultures and never understood how to fit into their molds. As Erline
turned to the colors of paint they revived something within her heart
and led to her truth of existence. All she needed was to be- Erline.
Erline seeks to create emotional expressions in the observer. This response
personalizes her work, ultimately leaving an imprint on one’s spirit.
