Editor’s Letter
Winter is a time for celebrating with friends and family over the holidays and then a time for deep reflection as we say good
bye to another year and make plans for a better New Year! First and foremost, BREED Magazine wishes everyone a Happy
Holidays and we also have plans for many exciting changes in the New Year!
While we were wrapping our 3rd Issue here, BREED also celebrated our 4 Year Anniversary! And we feel very proud to have
launched our own magazine only 6 months ago! Of course, we have big plans for 2018 and we’re hoping you stay with us to
take part in those changes!
This issue has spreads that come from all over our globe, a Universal celebration of One World: One Love. Editorials from
Dubai, Paris, New York City and Milan, our contributors talent has no geographical limitations!
Our cover girl, India Gants, is busy becoming an influence and a voice for younger women! We are proud to feature such a
passionate and beautiful young model, and of course, the winner of America’s Next Top Model! We are also very pleased to
feature Frankie Clarke of Frankie + The Studs, a band that is quickly becoming a global sensation! And Frankie’s conviction
and hard work for bringing back the revolution to rock and roll is everything we here at BREED support wholeheartedly.

s Beauty Director for fashion show production company AMCONYC, I do a lot more than just show up with the lipstick! AMOCNYC is a really fun
company to work for during NY Fashion Week as it provides a platform that supports new emerging designers. www.AMCONYC.com There are
months and months of planning that goes into organizing the backstage. Working with hair, makeup and nail sponsors, making sure the backstage photographers
are briefed, communicating with the designers and hiring assistants are just a few small cogs in the big machine that makes the shows run
smoothly. It’s a lot like planning for an important shoot- but on a much more massive scale. This past season AMCONYC showcased some really interesting
and creative new fashion talent. And the most important aspect of my job was to make sure all the beauty looks were not only gorgeous but perfectly
complimented the fashion. We brought in the AVEDA fashion show team to style the hair. They used Sutra Beauty hair tools. I also created all the makeup
looks using the latest makeup from Sacha Cosmetics. The nail looks were created with boutique brand Deco Miami. Here are a few of my favorites! What I
loved about these three styles is that it highlights various texture in the hair and makeup. Nicole Bell- For Nicole we showcased a matte makeup look. Nicole
is a Brooklyn based designer who recently spent time in Japan. So we had a geisha inspired look. Matte over sized blusher and a bright rep matte lip is shown
here on model Cecilia Kelly. For hair, a sleek Samurai style top not was created.
Kate Atelier- This designer’s look was all about glossy makeup. Kate is a designer who’s clothing is the epitome of working girl French chic. This seasons
clothing had a bondage- goth feel. So I created a slick black eye and glossy skin as shown here. A fuzzy Mohawk styled braid was created for hair shown here
on model Errin Abrams… side note: whenever creating a glossy look, it’s helpful to keep hair up to avoid it sticking to the models face.

Bradelis- is a luxury lingerie designer whose line combines a supportive structure with delicate design. To compliment their pieces, a palate of shimmer
tones were used to highlight the model’s skin. Shown here are two of our models wearing peachy frosted checks and eyes framed with a black cat eye flick.
AVEDA paired this look with tussled bed head waves.

Frankie + The Studs

Rising rocker, Frankie Clarke, slays the role of up and coming female musician in the punk rock scene in Los Angeles,
California. With a soft romance in her vocals, and a band consisting of a member hailing from “The Ramones,” Frankie
shines brightly. Carrying a style one could describe as Glamour Goth, and accompanied by a sound streaming in directly
from the early 1970’s, the band “Frankie + The Studs” is born.

Frankie has always regarded music and fashion as going hand in hand. Having famous musician Gilby Clarke (Guns n’
Roses), as her father, Frankie is no stranger to music. Her love for fashion came from 1970s glam rock. In fact, her mother,
designer Daniella Clarke, creator of cult denim line “Frankie B”, has even made her daughter a rather iconic Jumpsuit to
perform in at her shows.
Khalexia Gwendolyn: Who are some of your foundational influencers in the music scene? What do you keep coming back
to for your inspiration?
Frankie Clarke : Well, the most obvious is Joan Jett, because I discovered “The Runaways” when I was really young. That
showed me from a young age that girls can play rock n’ roll and we can be just as good as guys. Then there is obviously the
fashion part of it too, I got my jumpsuit look from Joan Jett. And from her, I learned about Suzi Quatro, as well as David
Bowie and Marc Bolan from “T.Rex”.
KG: Yes, I noticed some “Bowie-esque” lyrics in your hit song “Dance with you.” Could you elaborate on that?
FC: At first the song was called “I Wanna Dance With You on the Boulders of Mars.” Then I cut the ending because I
thought it was too obvious. It was definitely my tribute or nod to them (Bowie and Bolan).
KG: How did you meet “The Studs?”
FC: The Studs is a whole saga. Originally, I had released a song on my own, and it was a cover of Nick Gilder’s “Hot Child in
the City” and I put that out to see if any musicians were interested in getting involved with the direction I was headed. Right
after I put out that Video, I got hit up to do a show! My dad is also a musician, and we have a recording studio at my house.
He was producing a band at the time and one of the guys said he wanted to get on board. He brought in a bass player, and
then we brought in a session drummer. From there, we wrote a bunch of songs, and played all over LA. We played “Lollapalooza”
and then in May, I got a tour with the band “The Biters.” The tricky part about my band is that the guys are all in
different bands as well, and they weren’t able to do the tour, so i had to find an entirey new group of studs.

KG: Will The Studs always be interchangeable or would you like to find Studs that are exclusively yours??
FC: I would like to find core Studs, but right now, its kind of like Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, but i wanna be a band.
KG: Who are you listening to at the moment?
FC: I don’t listen to a lot of current music, as I don’t feel that I connect to a lot of it. I usually always end up going back to my
old records from the 70’s. But i really love Paramore, they are one of my favorite current artists. I like all the new Green Day
stuff too.
KGM: What do you do for fun? Are you exclusively a city dweller, or do you spend time in nature? What are your favorite
places to hang, and what are your favorites venues to play at?
FC: I’m mostly a city dweller actually, though, I like going for hikes, and walks to clear my head. I get a lot of ideas, when i just
disconnect, and don’t look at my phone. I feel like my whole life is surrounded by music, so I go to a lot of shows. I like clubs
that have specific DJ nights, playing 70’s rock music at venues like “The Short Stop” on Sunset. I like playing in Hollywood
because I feel like theres so much rock n’ roll history here. We played at “The Viper Room” and it was a packed show, and at
“The Roxy.” There are a lot of up and coming venues downtown now that are also cool. We played at this place called “The
Resident” which i really liked and “The Redwood” was fun.
KG: Who are you following on Instagram?
FC: I follow a lot of fashion accounts. My feed is always just make up and shoes,
KG: What would you say are the biggest style trends of the moment?
FC: Sparkles, velvet and leopard print!

KG: Are you using the KiraKira app to enhance the sparkles?
FC: Yes, of course! I have a glitter guitar and and I took a video of it on my Instagram story, with the KiraKira app, everyone
asked “OMG, how is it so sparkly?” And i was like “ohh its a secret.”
KG: Your mother Daniella has carved out a name in the industry. Do you also see yourself doing something similar?
FC: I’ve always been torn between fashion and music, but I think at this point, I know that I want to do both. My mom always
talks about one day having us start something together. I want to start a jumpsuit line, or make platform boots, definitely
something that has to do with the music that I put out.
KG: What was it like growing up with a father in the music scene, as a child?
FC: It was inspiring when I was younger, I mean, i skipped a lot of school and went on tour with them, and I got to watch
by the side of the stage. I think thats where i got the bug from. The hard part was that my dad was gone a lot, leaving for a
couple weeks at a time. It was something that I grew up with and was used to, but would go with him as much as I could.
KG: Your parents look like they are so much in love and a very cool rock n’ roll couple. Do they come to your shows? What
is it like having them there watching you perform?
FC: Yeah, my parents met when my mom was sixteen, when my mom was on vacation in Hollywood, and they’ve been
together ever since! My parents come to all of my shows, I feel like I’m able to get more into character when my parents
aren’t the first people i see in the audience, but i mean, they are my biggest supporters. They never miss a show, although,
when i did the east coast tour, they wanted to fly out and i was like, “no let me do this on my own”, but my parents are
always there.. my dad even sets up my gear for me (laughs.)
KG: Are you using your presence in the industry to make any kind of statement in the greater context of the world?
FC: As a female in the music industry, I feel like you naturally have a stance, because it is harder. At first I had the idea “I’m
just one of the boys” and thats how Joan Jett looked at it, like as if, I’m just equal to men. Like “don’t treat me differently
because I’m a girl,” and I’ve always had that stance also, but i definitely see how you do get treated differently and you can’t
just ignore it. You can’t just pretend that it doesn’t exist because it does, and the way I choose to deal with it is, just to be
who I am and put out what I want to put out, and hopefully inspire other girls to play music and not get discouraged by it.
At some point, we can overcome the inequality.
KG: Thats, really very powerful, thank you for saying that.
Frankie feels the rock n’ roll world is set for an epic renaissance and that we are at the forefront of a massive resurgence
from the original era of rock music.
Frankie plans to release some new music in 2018, and is anticipating another tour -one even ambitious as bringing the
studs to Tokyo!

Who wants to be India Kate Gants? As being crowned “America’s Next Top Model,” India has certainly carved out a name for
herself in the modeling world. India’s energy and light transfers through, not only in her photographs, but also as she begins
involving herself in charitable organizations on a global scale. And that’s just the beginning. As an aspiring DJ, and music lover,
India opens up about her personal style, and intentions to take her film and music production to the next level.
Khalexia Gwendolyn: What was your favorite fashion shoot you’ve done to date and why?
India Gants: My favorite photo shoot was definitely my “Rollacoaster” cover shoot I did in London. It was a Burberry story, so
I was wearing only the most fabulous winter coats! It was shot at the white cliffs of Dover, about 2 hours outside of London,
which was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. It was such a magical trip.
KG: How would you describe your personal style, what makes you feel sexiest?
IG: My personal style changes so much. If you asked me a year ago, I would have said my style was super grungy and rocker, but
nowadays I’ve been dressing a lot more feminine. Lots of florals and prints and cute little heels/boots. I definitely feel most sexy
when my look has completely come together with hair and makeup and the outfit, because it makes me confident. And confidence
is the sexiest thing you can wear.
KG: What is your beauty routine? What are the products you cannot live without?
IG: My beauty routine is pretty simple. I always use just a BB cream and some mascara for my everyday makeup. But I do love
playing around with products for bigger events. The one product I couldn’t live without is my “They’re real” mascara by Benefit.
It’s my absolute favorite! And I definitely can’t live without mascara in general. My lashes are really light and a little mascara really
makes my eyes pop!
KG: How has your lifestyle changed since you’ve acquired the title of Americas Next Top Model?
IG: I’m doing a lot more influencer/celebrity stuff. Lots of red carpets, interviews (like these), appearances... And also just growing
my brand far further than modeling. I’m now DJing, doing YouTube, and acting, so we’ll see which one really takes off! I’m
also getting to meet the most amazing people. People I have always looked up to who I can now call my friends.
KG: What would make the perfect environment for your ideal DJ set performance? Who would be in the audience, and where
would you play?
IG: My perfect set would be a sunset pool party in some awesome location like maybe Greece or Thailand. I really like playing
chill house music and sometimes even like tropical house music, so I think I would really suit the daytime chill vibes of a pool
party.
KG: Who are your role models and icons? Who do you admire in the industry?
IG: Ellen VonUnworth is someone I really look up to in the industry. I said I would never do a nude shoot, but on ANTM, that was
one of our first shoots. And even though it was really tough for me, Ellen made me feel so comfortable. She talked me through
the whole thing. She’s just so fun, non-judgmental, and very body positive, which is a lot of what I strive to be. She also is an
incredible female photographer and I really admire that because photography is often an industry dominated by men. I can’t
say it enough. Ellen is really so kind-hearted and devoted to her craft. I really look up to her.
KG: How will you use your fame to impact the world?
IG: I really want to impact the world in a less traditional way. I find that a lot of people target the same issues, but I want to dig a
little deeper and help organizations that are close to my heart. Such as Kiwanis Camp Casey, which is a weeklong summer camp
for physically disabled kids ages 5-17. I had been a counselor there for six years, and then last year put on a charity fashion show
featuring some of the campers as models. It was such a powerful event and I can’t wait to continue my involvement with them.
And of course continue growing the bigger picture and getting involved with global charities similar to Camp Casey.
KG: What does a typical Sunday look like for you?
IG: I don’t really have a typical Sunday. My Sunday could be anything! It’s my one day to chill during the week, but it’s a rarity
when I actually do chill on Sundays. I love going to the Sunday market or going to Runyon Canyon or just visiting some friends. I
could honestly be doing just about anything.

KG: What advice would you give to aspiring models in today’s world based solely upon social media?
IG: I would say, as much as social media is a great way to brand yourself, don’t rely on it. Work on being confident at castings,
developing your book, and practicing that runway walk! There is so much more to modeling than Instagram. Learn the craft
that is modeling.
KG: What are you most looking forward to in the new year?
IG: I’m looking forward to seeing where this YouTube thing goes. I’m really enjoying the whole process of filming and even editing
my videos. It’s very time consuming, but very fun! I also can’t wait to start booking more acting roles in 2017! January is pilot
season, so I hope I will be very busy!
The Seattle native now resides in Los Angeles and has adapted well to the local scene. Attending high-vibe industry events and
booking countless shoots, India has landed. Having a passion for hiking, and exploring the Californian terrain, she also boxes to
keep her winning body in top form. With projected visions as prolific as hers, consider this pretty young thing, unstoppable!!
