NEWBURYPORT – January Learn to Skate USA enrollment is now open! The Merrimack Valley
Skating Club will hold classes on Sundays at 4pm and Thursdays at 6pm.Specialized and fun Learn to

Skate USA classes focus on the basic fundamentals that are important for shaping both hockey and figure
skating skill development. Learn to Skate USA is endorsed by US Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US
Speed Skating. Skaters have the chance to earn skill-badges throughout the series. Student to coach
ratio is kept low and classes are available for skaters age 3 through adult. Classes run as 6-8 week sessions

ROWLEY - The Rowley Book Club will be reading The Throwback Special by Chris Bachelder, winner
of the Paris Review’s terry Southern Prize for Humor. We join twenty-two men who gather every fall to
reenact what eSPN called “the most shocking play in NFL history”: the November 1985 play in which
the Redskins’ Joe Theismann had his leg horribly broken by Lawrence taylor of the New york Giants live
on Monday Night Football. Over the course of a weekend, through mishaps, misunderstandings, and
grievances, the men choose roles and finally enact their bizarre ritual for what may be the last time in this
moving and comic tale about manhood, marriage, and middle age. Join us for a discussion on Thursday,

of sand (ByOB = bring your own bucket) from the Highway Department during the winter months to

ROWLEY - Go Green Home Show to record at the Rowley Library on Saturday, January 13, at 10am.
Join Richard Mullen of the Go Green Home Show for a discussion about recycling. Peanut butter jars,
tomato containers, ranch dressing containers, cans, milk jugs, cardboard, water bottles… We throw all
this stuff (and much more) in the recycling bin at home every day then simply forget about it. But that
“stuff” doesn’t just disappear. Come learn from the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Northern New
england’s (CCNNe) sustainability team about all the neat things
your recyclables are being turned into locally, right here in the
northeast! While they’re at it, they’ll teach you all about what goes in
your recycling bin and what should stay out. They’ll also tell you all
about what they’re doing at CCNNe to lessen their environmental
impact. Come with questions! The program is free and aimed at all
ages with special activities for children. This program will be taped
to be aired on local community tV stations as a segment of the Go
