COMPOSER BOBBLEHEADS
7.5” tall. Hand painted. Cast of sturdy poly-resin. Bobs on a heavy-duty
spring. We strove to be more realistic and less like caricatures: they are
based on portraits made in their lifetimes. They’re just the right
combination of bust, action figure and bobblehead.
POSTCARDS
ALBRIGHT, William (1944-1998)
Postcard from Kansas: Welcome to Interstate-70 ............. EP68078
10 postcards (8 with music), to be mailed or played. In 1994, John
Sampen and Marilyn Shrude initiated a commissioning project
designed to represent the diversity of American art music since
1960. Seven composers (including John Adams, Milton Babbitt,
and Pauline Oliveros) were invited to contribute ‘postcard
pieces’ highlighting their unique musical styles. These postcards
reproduce the ‘manuscript’ that Albright sent to Sampen in 1997
for this project, along with the instructions ‘some assembly
required’. Minimal instructions regarding sequencing, tempo, and
style are provided on each card, but an additional postcard with
an explanatory preface by Sampen is included. (4” x 6”)
L’Orchestre ................................................................................... HL99999
This 500 piece jigsaw puzzle shows an illustration (by Jean-Noel
Rochut) of a ‘typical’ orchestra...if its musicians were made up of
such luminaries as Bach, Puccini, and Stravinsky! And the
conductor is...well, part of the fun is trying to recognize
everyone, so we won’t spoil it for you. Approximately 13' x 18'
when complete. Includes a map matching the composer names
to their places on the illustration.
OFFERMANS, Wil (b. 1957)
Improvisation Calendar ............................................................ ZM31950
For every week of the year, the ‘improvisation calendar’ contains
one sheet with a graphic illustration intended to inspire
improvisation. This improvisation can be played on any
instrument, even the voice can be used. On the sheets you will
find anything from situations to notes and pictures open to
associations. Opening words in English, German, Dutch,
Japanese, Spanish and French precede the graphic part. Offerman
offers tips and rules for using the calendar which can be hung
up for greater visibility. Due to its spiral binding, the pages can
be turned back. After one year, you can start all over again!
