A Family Tradition
Since 1982
Samson Family Leather is a third-generation family business. The company was founded as Jack’s
Jacks in 1982 by Jack Samson. Jack focused on handmade leather drinking vessels lined with beeswax,
as well as his shoe repair shops. In 1994 the business changed names to The Gentle Craftsman
under his son Bob Samson. Bob, along with his wife Darla, taught his sons a love of history and
how to make the same high quality leather drinking vessels he and his father had sold for years.
In 2011 Casey Samson, the oldest of the three sons, purchased the business from his father and Samson
Family Leather was born. Working out of an attic, slowly the business expanded into custom manufacturing
of knife sheaths for fi rst one company then another. Samson Leather has expanded to over 200 products.
In 2014 SFL moved out of the attic into its new home at 119 N Meridian St on the square in
downtown Lebanon. In August of 2015 Casey married his high school sweetheart Abbie and later
the fourth generation of SFL, Payton, was born. A few short years later we are expanding again.
Seeing a need in the reenactment for more selection of high quality colonial goods at affordable
prices, we are now offering 18th century clothing, shoes, and expanding our line of accouterments.
It is our promise to always “stand behind our work 110%”, as Bob has said from the start.
Always a family business, it continues to take a village
to grow SFL. Everyone lends a hand. We invite you
to be a part of the SFL Family. In 2017, we added
Samson Historical as a division of Samson Family
Leather.
