College Newsletter A C ADEMIC NOT E! Welcome to a slower paced, and thankfully longer, term. There are some major cultural events taking place this term, but on the whole, we should have enough time for solid, academic focus. The Matrics, in particular, have a lot of work ahead as they have to prepare for their Prelim Exams in September and must still complete a fair amount of portfolio work in most subjects. Winter School Our thanks to the staff who gave up the last few days of their holiday to offer special focus lessons for our Matriculants. This was a productive time and gave the students a clear idea of what to expect, and what is expected of them, this term. Academic Assembly It was lovely to have such good parental attendance at our midyear awards. Many of the students did really well, over the two terms and in the examinations, and it is important for us all to show our support by coming together to celebrate their consistent achievement. Here are the top achievers in each Grade, listed in the order 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd in Grade. There are quite a few students resting on the 80% threshold. We encourage such students to put in the extra effort this term reach those very attainable distinctions. Core Skills The Grade Nines write the national IEB Core Skills Tests on Friday 22 August. Tutorial classes Additional academic assistance is available from the teachers in the afternoons. Please make use of their time wisely by being prepared with appropriate questions and by being clear about exactly which sections of the work need re-visiting.
