TASTY TREATS
From IMMEDIATE
PAST-President
TREVOR
Dear Members and Friends,
As you probably know, I handed over the Presidency
of Loddon Vale Rotary Club to Rodney
Huggins on Monday 8th January 2018 after a 6
month period which I thoroughly enjoyed. There
wasn’t a catastrophe somewhere in Rotary world
that the President
has to
try to accommodate
and
fundraising,
social events,
youth activities
and recruitment
all
went well. I
thanked all
members for
their help in putting the Club onto a firmer footing
with 7 new members recruited in the July to December
period. The latest of which, Melanie and
Jeremy Eatough, will be inducted at our evening
meeting on 29th January 2018 and they will be
our third married couple as Loddon Vale Rotarians.
I’d like to thank all our readers for your help
in achieving the improvement in our Club’s fortunes
and I’m sure you will carry forward this support
into Rodney’s six months as President.
I’m also delighted to tell you that we have secured
our Presidential succession for at least the next 2
years with Roger & Bob sharing 2018-19 and Bill
courageously agreeing to take the whole of 2019-
20. This takes a little of the pressure off but we
still need to be looking for Junior Vice Presidents,
hopefully from some of our newer members, for
the whole of the period. If you’re interested please
contact Richard,
Terry or
Rodney.
MC & Party organiser Roger Longhurst
helping Lesley Champion
with her humorous slant on Cinderella
at our excellent Christmas
Party .
Back to
events that
have happened
over
the past 2
months. Obviously
the run
up to the
Christmas period
has been
a main feature
which is featured
on the
front page of
the newslet-
2
ter. This included the Prelude
to Christmas at
Bulmershe School on 29th
November which comprised
a variety of Christmas
music and featured
the Central Reading Salvation
Army Band, the
Bulmershe Ensemble
(choir) and Sarah Pierce,
a successful candidate
from our Young Musician
Competition. This was followed
by the Woodley
Winter Extravaganza on 3rd December, where we
had the legendary Loddon Vale burgers and hotdog’s
stand in Woodley Precinct, which generated
nearly £500 and provided an opportunity to raise
our profile. This was followed by the Christmas
Float collections during the period 6th-23rd December
interrupted briefly by our Christmas Party
on 18th December (see page 3 of the newsletter).
Since Christmas & the Presidential Handover on
8th January time has flashed by in a blur with only
the Aquabox presentation by David Sutherland on
15th January coming to mind.
Trevor Barber, Past President of RCLV
(cont. from page 1 column 2) We would also
like to thank Woodley Precinct restaurants and
stores for their support in allowing Rotarians to
visit their premises and sing, by request and
unaccompanied, Christmas carols to their customers.
This fundraising activity goes towards supporting
many local charities including Just Around the Corner,
Addington School Thumbs-Up Club, the CommuniTrees
project, the Friends of Woodford Park,
the Twyford
&
Ruscombe
Theatre
Group Pantomime
for
children
with special
needs, Alexander
Devine
Children’s
Hospice
Service, the Berkshire Egg Run for the deprived
and disadvantaged children and older people giving
hope for young people in the community, Reading
Launchpad helping the homeless and many,
many more.
Rotary Club of Loddon Vale, Santa and his helpers
would like to say thank you very much and hope
everyone has a happy, healthy and prosperous
2018.
