Stories from around the Loddon Vale family from December 2017 & January 2018 Piggott Interact Charity Gala On 13th December 2017 Piggott Interact Club held a Charity Gala, in the Main Hall of The Piggott School. They handed over donations to the charities they’d decided to help at the beginning of their year of office in January 2017 in front of a packed hall of 150 plus year 12s (17-18 year olds). The Club decided to do the presentation of the donations in front of the year 12s to raise the profile of the Club with the hope that more year 12s would join. Dhanyal Butt presenting a cheque £300 to Jason McMahon from Launchpad Reading Dhanyal Butt presenting a cheque £300 to Nelson Walters from Mencap Reading The charities selected were Launchpad Reading (helping the homeless Reading), Mencap Reading (helping children and young adults in Reading with learning disabilities) and finally Young Princesses (helping children nationally who’ve lost their hair after cancer treatment by providing hair extensions & wigs). £300 was presented to each of the charities representatives, namely Jason McMahon - Launchpad and Nelson Walters - Mencap but unfortunately no representative of Little Princesses could attend so their donation has been sent by mail. Dhanyal Butt, Charity Chairman from Piggott Interact Club is shown presenting the cheques to Nelson Walters and Jason McMahon. Both Jason and Nelson thanked Dhanyal and the Piggott Interact Club for their efforts in raising so much money for their charities and endorsed the efforts of the Club by stressing the benefits that Club members and the Piggott School derive from such excellent charitable activities. Dhanyal finished the Charity Gala by appealing to the year 12s to join the Interact Club. After some promptings from Mrs Hopkins, Head of PE who’s lesson we had stolen to do the presentation, 10 year 12s said they would join the Club in January 2018 after the Christmas break. Group photo at the end of the Piggott Interact Club Charity Gala On 10th January 2018, the first Piggott Interact Club meeting in the new year, 5 new year 12s joined the Club with the expectation of more. Several of the year 13s, who’ve been members for over a year, have said they will continue until Easter despite being heavily involved with studying for their A-levels which they will sit in June. Dhanyal Butt has agreed to be President and a year 12, Dmani Barnett , has agreed to be Vice- President of Piggott Interact Club. 6
