During the break, I found out from him that he
didn’t appreciate the fact that the director refused to
listen to his suggestions on how they should shoot
a scene since he felt uncomfortable with the initial
plan. He felt upset because the end shot didn’t
portray the right amount of energy no matter how
hard he tried and found it hard to call this
endorsement his. After which, this actor thanked
me for being observant.
I spoke to my colleague who was in charge of this
deal, and he spoke to the director to resolve this
issue to ensure a smoother shoot.
In that moment, I no longer felt like I had a
“useless” job. If I had not tried to learn to
understand the main purpose of my job, this shoot
would have gone too uncomfortable for anyone’s
liking. It is in situations like these that I am thankful
I got out of the negativity surrounding the nature of
my job.
Trying has taught me that it is not the end even if
asking does that begat approval.
It has always been my most earnest goal to be able
to pitch directly to an actual client since that was
stated in my proposed job description. With the
days leading up to TCA’s next biggest event, The
Celebrity Sports Day, everyone in the team is
scrambling to get as many sponsors on board as
possible. I offered to do up the presentation deck
because we have been taught how to make concise
but effective slides for presentation in school.
Ad-Lin had told me she appreciated the offer and
would approach me if she has a deck for me to do.
I was thrilled to finally be one step closer to a goal I
have always wanted to achieve.
But alas, as the big day approaches, I have only
seem the team rushing to get things done, being the
busy bees they always have been. Seeing that the
team could use some additional help, I again offered
to try to help out in some ways.
However, I was told that because the information
that concerned this whole event was mostly
confidential, they could not give me the work and
that they will try their best to let me be part of the
planning in some way.
I was really bummed about not being able to help
directly with the planning of such an important
event. It was the only other even other than Star
Awards that will get the whole team busy and going
and my eagerness dampened with every “I will try
to see what I can give you instead” replies whenever
I asked if I could help the team with anything.
I pretty much lost motivation and hope that I will
be working directly in support of this upcoming
Sports Day for a while, until I realized this was not
the way to be.
I could not possible stay sulky about not getting
what I wanted because it was just not going to be a
bed of roses. However, because I tried to offer my
assistance in anyway that I could, I was part of the
creative team that came up with and produced the
first trailer for The Celebrity Sports Day. I also spent
days refining and compiling a list containing all
social media statistics of all our artistes, so that the
team can use this list to present them to clients in
bid for more sponsorships.
Though I am not directly helping the team with
skills that I offered for confidentiality issues, I
can proudly say I played a part in the process and
promoting this event. The things I did were useful
in their own right, and I am glad I tried to offer
other forms of help instead of being upset about not
working on presentation decks.
Trying has taught me it is okay to step out of my
comfort zone to do new things.
I have always been a person who takes time
warming up to people.
I have never been one to be able to get along well
with everyone I have met in an instant. While on
this internship, I was forced to get rid of that shell
of shyness to put on my best front forward facing
new people I meet.
Within the first few days of internship, I was tasked
to chaperone actress Felicia Chin on an event
organized by National Youth Corp. There, a lady
who was looking after the participants of the event,
approached me and tried to initiate a conversation.
She asked me about work what I was doing at the
event. I felt hesitant at first, and only answered her
very vaguely. But she persisted and tried to interest
me into being more participative. Slowly, she
