Tension in Taraba as
Chief of Staff resigns
By John Mkom
JALINGO—THERE is
tension in Taraba State
Government House as the
Chief of Staff to the
governor, Rebo Usman,
tendered his resignation
letter to Governor Darius
Ishaku yesterday.
A source told Vanguard
that Rebo Usman, in the
early hours of yesterday,
went to the office of the
governor to present the
letter.
According to the source,
“he came in without his
usual Police escort; he was
calm and steady. He went
in silently and came out
without discussing with
anybody.
“After a while, a private
vehicle came in and his
personal items were
removed and parked into
the vehicle, with which he
left.”
The source said there had
been a rift between the
former Chief of Staff and
the governor.
At a function at Jolly
Nyame Stadium in Jalingo,
Governor Ishaku had
lamented the fall in
internally-generated
revenue, IGR, from timber
sales.
The timber sector, the
highest revenue-earning
sector in the state, was
under the Ministry of
Environment before it was
moved to the office of the
Senior Special Adviser to
the Governor on Revenue
through the influence of the
Chief of Staff.
Other people at
Government House were of
the opinion that the
resignation was in
connection with the political
rift between the governor
has dismissed claims by
in Kadarko, Nasarawa
According to Chief Ujege,
the claim is baseless and
“no doubt a mockery of one
of the saddest periods in
the lives of the Tiv people,
Benue and, indeed, the
entire Nigeria when 73
people, including children,
pregnant women and old
men, murdered by
day, were given mass burial
sending out warning to
people to beware of
to scam unsuspecting
members of the society.
According to a
statement by Glo, the
episode is entitled Fake
how scammers clone the
BAUCHI
State
Agency for the
Control of HIV/AIDS,
Tuberculosis/Leprosy
and Malaria,
BACATMA, said,
yesterday, no fewer than
206 new cases of leprosy
were detected in Bauchi
State in 2017.
Executive Chairman of
the agency, Dr. Mansur
Mustapha Dada, who
stated this yesterday at a
briefing, as part of
activities marking the
commemoration of World
Leprosy Day, said the
2017 state statistics
showed that the number
of children among the
new cases was 32,
representing 15.5
percent.
He said leprosy was a
chronic disease caused
by a bacteria called
Mycobacterium Leprae
and was transmitted by
minute droplets through
the upper respiratory
tract, adding that the
bacteria was very slow,
growing with generation
in Makurdi, the Benue
State capital.
“The Mdzough U Tiv
wishes to describe reports
of the alleged Nasarawa
attacks and display of
cattle in the palace of an
emir as reprehensible,
condemnable and
unacceptable to all rightthinking
members of the
human race.
“This poor parody, which
Bauchi records 206
new cases of leprosy
time of 12 to 13 days and
an incubation period of two
to five years.
Dada said from 2015 to
2017, the agency
renovated the Leprosy unit
at Bayara Hospital in the
state, provided drugs/
commodities and
conducted Leprosy
campaign at Kuturun Kuka
Maimadi Ward of Alkaleri
Local Government, where
the case detection rate was
high.
His words: “The disease
develops slowly from six
months to 40 years,
affecting the skin, mucous
membrane of the upper
respiratory tract and the
peripheral nervous system,
resulting in skin lesions
and deformities such as
eyes, nose, feet, hands and
testicles.
“It tends to occur within
families, which has led
many to think leprosy is
hereditary.
“However, scientists
have proved that the
disease is due to overcrowding,
concentrations
and intimacy with family
members.”
‘Claim of Tiv militia killing 73 cattle mocks New Year day massacre’
is part of a larger conspiracy
script to downplay the
heinous crime committed
against Benue State by the
herdsmen and their sponsors
must be rejected by all.
“We consider it the height
of insensitivity, brutality and
impunity that a group of
people will reduce the
precious lives of human
beings to the same level and
status with cattle.”
