Grand Opening in June 2018
KUNSTHALLE MANNHEIM
The art gallery has always been far more than just a museum.
It is a prestige object and a treasure trove, a meeting place,
and a driver of new innovations.
The currently largest new building of an art museum in Germany
is located in the heart of Mannheim. The building, which is
encased in a bronze-coloured metal mesh, was designed by
the architectural agency, gmp – Gerkan, Marg und Partner.
Designed as an open “city in the city”, the art museum allows
its visitors to stroll between the gallery rooms, a restaurant,
a shop and an open storage facility. International artists such
as William Kentridge, Dan Graham, Alicja Kwade and Anselm
Kiefer are presented with new location-specific works. The
Grand Opening of the new “Kunsthalle Mannheim” will take
place in June 2018. The first special exhibition will be dedicated
to the international photographic artist, Jeff Wall. After
that, “Die Konstruktion der Welt. Kunst und Ökonomie” (“The
structure of the world. Art and economy”) will present for the
first time the influence of the economy on art in the 20th and
21st centuries in a global comparison.
