Police Reports<br />

Police respond to more than a dozen vehicle break-ins in 10 days<br />

From Jan. 15-Jan. 24,<br />

deputies from the Malibu/<br />

Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station<br />

responded to 14 reports of<br />

burglaries to motor vehicles<br />

parked throughout Malibu.<br />

On Jan. 24, a car’s window<br />

was shattered and a<br />

brown handbag reportedly<br />

was stolen from the vehicle<br />

at Trancas Country Market<br />

(30745 Pacific Coast Highway).<br />

On Jan. 20, there were<br />

two car break-ins. In one,<br />

at PCH and Cross Creek<br />

Road, a car key was taken<br />

from a surfer’s towel and<br />

a laptop computer, cellphone,<br />

wallet, credit cards<br />

and $120 in cash reportedly<br />

were stolen from his<br />

car; one of the credit cards<br />

was reportedly declined at<br />

a Target in Westlake Village.<br />

The other Jan. 20 incident<br />

took place at Surfrider<br />

Beach (23050 PCH), and<br />

a cellphone, wallet, $140<br />

in cash and multiple credit<br />

cards reportedly were stolen<br />

from a vehicle. The<br />

victim also reportedly discovered<br />

that someone attempted<br />

to use the credit<br />

cards to make a $2,200<br />

purchase at Toys Unlimited<br />

and a $2,500 purchase at<br />

Target in Westlake Village;<br />

the charges were declined.<br />

On Jan. 19, at Malibu<br />

Colony Plaza, a car’s front<br />

window was smashed in<br />

and two leather purses, a<br />

laptop computer, an external<br />

hard drive, prescription<br />

sunglasses and more reportedly<br />

were stolen.<br />

On Jan. 18, four break-ins<br />

occurred. In one instance, a<br />

backpack, two laptop chargers,<br />

two laptop computers,<br />

iPad, phone chargers,<br />

headphones, wallet, $10<br />

and more reportedly were<br />

stolen from the vehicle at<br />

Malibu Lumber Yard (3939<br />

Cross Creek Road). Two<br />

suitcases containing clothing<br />

and personal items,<br />

and a diaper bag reportedly<br />

were stolen from another<br />

vehicle parked at Aviator<br />

Nation (22967 PCH). In<br />

another incident that day,<br />

a $5,000 Louis Vuitton<br />

purse, $1,800, a wallet and<br />

cellphone charger reportedly<br />

were stolen from a<br />

vehicle at Arco gas station<br />

(18541 PCH). A rolling<br />

suitcase, makeup tools and<br />

a backpack — valued at<br />

$9,750 — reportedly were<br />

also stolen from the trunk<br />

of a vehicle parked at Nobu<br />

(22706 PCH).<br />

On Jan. 17, two vehicle<br />

break-ins took place on<br />

Surfwood Drive. In one, a<br />

United States Department<br />

of Veterans Affairs access<br />

card and two sets of keys<br />

reportedly were stolen. In<br />

the other, a laptop, Canon<br />

camera, Chanel purse valued<br />

at $5,000 and a box<br />

containing $6,000 in dental<br />

hand pieces reportedly<br />

were stolen.<br />

On Jan. 16, there were<br />

three incidents. A passport<br />

from Israel, car charger and<br />

men’s sunglasses reportedly<br />

were stolen from an<br />

unlocked vehicle on PCH.<br />

Keys, cellphone, a wallet<br />

and credit cards reportedly<br />

were stolen from a vehicle<br />

at Leo Carrillo Beach. One<br />

of the credit cards was used<br />

to make $4,000 in unauthorized<br />

charges at a Target<br />

store in Westlake Village,<br />

and the other card was used<br />

to make two separate transactions<br />

totaling $2,100.<br />

In the third incident of the<br />

day, a black leather purse,<br />

a pen valued at $400, a<br />

Coach makeup bag, Coach<br />

wallet, California driver’s<br />

license and $100 reportedly<br />

were stolen from a vehicle<br />

on Westward Beach Road.<br />

On Jan. 15, a stereo reportedly<br />

was stolen and<br />

dashboard damaged in an<br />

unlocked vehicle on Coastline<br />

Drive.<br />

Other incidents were as<br />

follows:<br />

Jan. 25<br />

• A burglary reportedly<br />

took place at Colony House<br />

Liquor (22523 PCH). Officers<br />

responded to the<br />

business as a result of a<br />

burglary alarm call and discovered<br />

the front glass door<br />

shattered. Merchandise had<br />

been disturbed.<br />

Jan. 23<br />

• Three Apple computers,<br />

a cash drawer and $100<br />

reportedly were stolen<br />

from 99 High Tide (22775<br />

PCH). Officers responded<br />

to an audible alarm call and<br />

discovered the entrance<br />

gate open to the business<br />

complex. The front door<br />

to 99 High Tide smashed.<br />

Security footage reportedly<br />

showed three adults in<br />

sweaters, pants and masks<br />

approach the door. Nothing<br />

else appeared to be damaged<br />

or stolen.<br />

Jan. 18<br />

• An iPad, Apple computer<br />

and brown guitar reportedly<br />

were stolen from a residence<br />

on Latigo Canyon<br />

Road.<br />

• A white iPad reportedly<br />

was stolen from a residence<br />

on Birdview Avenue. The<br />

alleged victim said she left<br />

the home and locked all the<br />

doors. She was notified by<br />

an exterminator that he discovered<br />

one of the rear patio<br />

doors smashed in. The<br />

master bedroom, bathroom,<br />

bedrooms, entertainment<br />

center, wine cellar and<br />

pantry had reportedly been<br />

rummaged through.<br />

Jan. 17<br />

• A car window reportedly<br />

was vandalized on<br />

Surfwood Road. The alleged<br />

victim discovered his<br />

front driver’s side window<br />

smashed in with a large<br />

boulder. The boulder was<br />

sitting in the driver’s seat.<br />

The vehicle did not appear<br />

to be ransacked and the<br />

doors were still locked.<br />

• Approximately 200 gallons<br />

of diesel fuel reportedly<br />

were stolen from three<br />

bulldozers at a construction<br />

site on Delaplane Road.<br />

Jan. 15<br />

• Pieces of mail reportedly<br />

were stolen from mailboxes<br />

at a condominium complex<br />

on Coastline Drive. The<br />

alleged victim said she<br />

discovered various pieces<br />

of junk mail scattered in<br />

the parking lot below her<br />

condo unit. Upon further<br />

investigation, she discovered<br />

all mail from her box<br />

and her neighbor’s boxes<br />

had been removed. Locks<br />

to the mailboxes had been<br />

removed or disabled. The<br />

alleged victim reported the<br />

complex has also recently<br />

experienced a number of<br />

UPS boxes disappearing.<br />

Jan. 11<br />

• Three five-gallon buckets<br />

of white glossy paint reportedly<br />

were stolen from<br />

a residence on Civic Center<br />

Way. The alleged victim<br />

said the paint was taken<br />

from his upstairs bedroom.<br />

A neighbor said she saw a<br />

Hispanic male in his early<br />

30s wearing a gray hoodie<br />

near the residence at the<br />

time of the alleged theft.<br />
