Connects to regional water line
Lisa Joy
ECA Review
The Town of Bashaw connected
to the Hwy 12/21 water
commission’s pipeline after the
estimated $7 million 20-km of
line was finished between
Mirror and Bashaw.
The water line will give
Bashaw residents sustainable
surface water from the Red
Deer River instead of ground
water from wells.
“We haven’t been onslaught
with calls in the change; over
water viscosity and content so
nothing negative,” said Town of
Bashaw Chief Administrative
Officer (CAO) Theresa Fuller.
There was, however, a hiccup
in the flow of information to
residents about the process.
“Communication didn’t go
quite as hoped to the residents
and we are looking at
improving communication,”
said CAO Fuller. “Anyone who
called the office got the
information.”
Strategic
top five
goals
Lisa Joy
ECA Review
Town of Stettler affirmed the top
five items on their wish list in a strategic
plan.
“These top five goals will be
brought to council twice a year on
how it’s progressing so we can keep a
benchmark on it,” CAO Switenky
told council Feb. 6. “It doesn’t mean
we will have success on any but at
least we will try to move forward.”
Council’s five top goals are:
Upgrades to the Stettler Recreation
Centre; create a communications
officer position for the town; construct
a firefighter training facility;
develop an economic development
plan; and connect the town’s
Misguided energy development
by Herman Schwenk
I attended an information meeting
in the Castor Community Hall presented
by Michele Del Colle from the
Alberta Farmers Advocate. This was a
very informative presentation.
She explained in great detail how the
developers proceed to get contracts
signed for a wind farm project.
The landowners are on their own
when negotiating a contract for the
installation of a wind generator on
their property.
The Surface Rights Act does not
apply to renewable energy projects as it
does for oil and gas projects.
The agents who represent the developer
do not have to be licensed land
men and in most cases are not. They
represent the interests of the developer,
not your interest.
Del Colle strongly recommended
that you engage the services of a
lawyer that has expertise in the area of
contracts and property rights.
She also explained the role and process
of the Alberta Utilities
Commission [AUC]. All projects have
to be approved by the AUC. For the
most part it is a paper process however,
if a group of land landowners
have concerns, applications can be
made to the AUC to conduct a formal
hearing. In that case the entire process
can involve nine steps.
The Farmers Advocate Office has
produced a very good pamphlet that
provides very detailed information on
the issue of renewable energy in
Alberta.
The title of the document is “
Renewable Energy in Alberta” and can
be obtained by phoning 310-3276.
I would advise that you obtain a copy
before discussing a renewable energy
project with an agent from a developer.
Whether we like it or not, this government
is determined to impose their
Climate Change Plan on the residents
of this province.
Understand the plan is about NDP
ideology not climate. They insist on
phasing out efficient clean burning
coal-fired generating plants. The plan
is to phase out these plants by 2030 and
at that time have 30 per cent of
Alberta’s electricity produced by
renewable energy.
They will spend billions of dollars to
compensate the utilities for shutting
down their generators long before they
would normally retire these plants.
These costs and the costs of subsidizing
renewable energy will be built
into the price we pay for electricity.
This government does not seem to
understand that polices that increase
the cost of doing business or the cost of
living will result in job losses and
investment, nor do they seem to care.
What we have is lots of pain and no
gain for the taxpayer.
The thing that really gets to me on
this issue of the Climate Change Plan
is that they are attempting to solve a
problem that does not exist.
It is based in the flawed concept that
C02 emissions are the cause of climate
change. As I have written in previous
columns, real research scientists, not
wannabe scientists like Al Gore or
David Suzuki], have proven that C02
has historically never been a factor in
climate change and isn’t this time
either. C02 is such a small percentage
of greenhouse gas that its effect on climate
is miniscule.
Climate change is caused by various
solar activities.
Our NDP government can spend billions
of dollars that they don’t have, on
their Climate Change Plan and all they
will change is to destroy our economy
as the government of Ontario has succeeded
in doing to their economy.
That government still hasn’t figured
out that their Green Energy Act has
been a colossal economic disaster. The
only thing that will prevent an economic
disaster in Alberta is a change
in government.
Hopefully that will happen before
the damage is irreversible.
If the UCP is successful in forming
the next government, repealing the
Climate Change Plan is just one of several
pieces of legislation that will be
immediately repealed.
Renowned singer-songwriter performs
to sold out crowds in Stettler
Lisa Joy
ECA Review
His voice croons love.
That’s the enduring magic that ebbs
and flows in the melodies, in the catchy
lyrics, in the deeply romantic anthems
of love.
Canadian singer-songwriter and
multi-instrumentalist Royal Wood may
be best known for his song “Juliet”
about lasting love, the hope and the
promise. In the sweet-sounding lyrics
his voice cantillates, “You can be my
Juliet then, And we can drift asleep in
a lover’s pose, But never close our eyes,
No we will survive.”
Wood, accompanied by
upright bass player Steve
Zsirai, performed two
shows at the Stettler
Performing Arts Centre
to sold out crowds Feb. 11
as part of his North
American and European
tour to promote his
upcoming album Ever
After The Farewell that
will be released April 6.
Wood released his new
single “California
Nights” in January,
which is the first tract of
the album and written by
Wood, Jamie Scott and
Luke Potashnick.
“California Nights”
draws the audience into a
nostalgic glimpse at love,
untamed youth and
friendship.
“When I wrote the
song I was thinking
about childhood, crazy
fun times in Los Angeles
and Nashville, just being
with my friends,” said
Wood during an interview
in Stettler after his performance.
“It’s a nostalgic piece.”
The album is the result of a
dichotomy of emotions for Wood. 2017
included the biggest highs and lows of
his life – meeting and marrying the
love of his life and the death of his
father.
Immersing himself into his creativity
was cathartic and the result
was his eleventh album Ever After The
Farewell that he said captures the
polar opposite emotions he felt while
composing the music.
“I said farewell to my father but I
started the journey of ever after with
my wife.”
The man and
woman’s hands
on the cover of the
album represent
both Wood taking
his bride’s hand
in marriage and
his father’s hand
leaving his
mother’s.
The year, 2017
was a year of paradigm
shifts for
Wood.
“Life showed
me firsthand that
I had never felt
true grief before,
nor did I understand
love until
now.”
Indeed, Wood is
driven by love
and his latest
album celebrates
the timeless
styles of Tin Pan
Alley and Laurel
Canyon, which
created hits like “By the Light of the
Silvery Moon (Gus Edwards and
Edward Madden) and “Our House
(Joni Mitchell) respectively.
Wood played most of the instruments
in the songs and to capture the
rawest sound most songs were
recorded the day they were written.
Wood recorded the album on the
Beatles EMI console where they made
Abbey Road.
Wood was born John Royal Wood
Nicholson and his middle names,
Royal Wood, which are his performing
names, were chosen after his greatgrandfather
died in 1962.
Canadian singer-songwriter Royal Wood performs at the Stettler
one at 2 p.m. and a second one at 7 p.m. ECA Review/L. Joy
Royal Wood was raised on a farm in
Ontario and enjoys performing at
smaller venues like Stettler.
“I grew up in a small town, Village of
Lakefield, with a high school of 400
plus kids. It’s small town, it makes it
feel like family. You meet the woman
backstage that made the soup, that
baked the banana bread for you, and
that doesn’t happen in the big city
shows.”
Wood has since bought the family
farm where he grew up and is now an
organic farmer and environmentalist.
he was four and started writing songs
Volunteering is the ultimate
exercise in democracy. You vote in
elections, but when you volunteer, you
vote every day about the kind of
community you want to live in.
Not enough women recognize the
signs of heart attack and know what
to do. My mom was one of them.
“It’s all I ever wanted to do,” he said.
Wood was inspired by the greats like
Tom Petty, The Beatles, The Beach
Boys and Cat Stevens.
“When I was a kid my dad had my
uncle’s music collection and there were
all these old vinyls and the first time
he played them Cat Stevens came on
and that was it, that was when I knew I
wanted to be a songwriter from that
point on.”
No one artist inspired him the most
but if he had to choose one that
inspired him the longest he said it
would be the Beatles; John Lennon and
Paul McCartney.
In 2014 Wood’s single
“Forever and Ever” was a Top
40 hit in Canada. In 2010
iTunes named him
Songwriter of the Year.
The same year he was nominated
at the Junos for
Songwriter of the Year. In
2013 he was nominated for
another Juno for Adult
Alternative Album of the
Year.
Wood has had success in
Hollywood with his songs
being used on several TV and
movie soundtracks including
ReGenesis, This is
Wonderland, Playing House,
Grey’s Anatomy, Private
Practice, and Food Network’s
Surreal Gourmet.
In May Wood will play at
the internationally famous
Massey Hall in Toronto –
Canada’s most important
concert venue that attracts
top celebrities from around the
world. But when you ask Wood
what is the greatest accomplishment
of his career, it’s
clear it’s about the music.
“The fact that I have been a selfemployed
successful musician for
almost 15 years now in an industry
that doesn’t allow most people to do it,”
he said.
Negotiating outdated lease
Cont’d from Pg 1
Seven municipalities are on the
Hwy 12/21 commission including
Lacombe and Camrose County,
Villages of Alix, Clive, Edberg,
Ferintosh and the Town of Bashaw.
The cost of the line between Bashaw
and Mirror was shared by the federal
government ($3.5 million), the provincial
government ($2.8 million) and the
Hwy 12/21 commission ($700,000).
Arena repairs
The town continues to negotiate
with the Bashaw Curling Club about
the club’s outdated lease agreement to
help clarify who pays for what when it
comes to the rink’s aging equipment.
“Recently the town had to repair the
ice plant,” CAO Fuller told council in
her report Feb. 1. The repairs cost
$4,900.
The current agreement between the
town and the curling club was created
in 1983 and CAO Fuller said it is
“vague regarding what expenses the
curling club is to assist with.”
Capital projects reviewed
Council reviewed its extensive list of
capital projects for the next three
years.
The big ticket item is the $1.1 million
upgrades to the water lines on the
north end of 54 Ave., which includes
replacing the water mains and
repaving 54 Ave. and expected to be
done the 2018-19 budget year.
Lagoon upgrades slated for the 2016
budget year will continue.
Preliminary engineering is completed
and the town is applying for (or
applied) for funding from the
province.
The total cost of the project is
expected to be about $654,000.
Paving projects for 2018 include
reconstruction and extension paving
at 52 St. and 50 Ave. at a cost of about
$163,000.
The town will apply for a grant to
help fund the expected $45,000 cost of
creating a Municipal Development
Plan and update its Land Use Bylaw,
which the province is now requiring of
all municipalities and given them two
years to complete.
Council will also complete the first
phase of servicing industrial lots at a
cost of about $1.8 million.
Surveillance cameras will be
installed at the public works shop, the
arena, curling rink, RV dump and
water treatment plant, which will cost
about $14,000.
Capital budget
“It’s still solid.”
Council accepted Clearview Public
Schools’ Trustee Greg Hayden’s presentation
as information and will
continue discussions with them on the
project.
Council gave final approval to its
five-year capital budget and 2018’s $6.1
County of Paintearth resident Terry Vockeroth spoke up during the question and answer period at the
Farmer’s Advocate meeting on Feb. 5 at the Castor Community Hall regarding contracts for renewable
energy wind and solar farms. Michele Del Colle, an Energy Utility and Policy Specialist with the
Farmer’s Advovate Office, confirming that there are no standard contracts stating, “it’s shocking how
they vary from one to another”. Over 110 interested parties were in attendance.
ECA Review
A Farmer’s Advocate meeting provided
information on wind and solar
projects and an opportunity for questions
by the 112 attendees on Mon. Feb.
5 at the Castor Community Hall.
Energy Utility and Policy Specialist
with the Farmer’s Advocate Office
(FAO), Michele Del Colle clarified
many points for landowners, including
once a contract is signed, “there is no
backing out”.
She then went on to explain the role
of the Alberta Utilities Commission
(AUC)which has final say on any wind
and solar projects. The role of the
Farmer’s Advocate in protecting
farmers, and working on getting
“gaps” that have been identified
through legislation.
In the three-hour meeting, Del Colle
set out recommendations for landowners
who were being approached
for signing contracts for wind and
solar farms.
• Don’t sign anything until you’ve
had a lawyer who has wind and solar
contract experience, review the
contract.
The Law Society of Alberta can help
you by providing three names of lawyers
with that experience and the
lawyer must provide you with a 1/2
hour consultation at no cost before
making a decision if that is the lawyer
you wish to hire.
• The agent coming around asking
you to sign the contract is NOT
working for you. He is ONLY working
for the developer and does not belong
to any organizations such as the Land
Agents Licensing Act, and therefore is
not accountable to the Standard of
Conduct under the Act. The Standard
of Conduct requires land agents to act
professionally, negotiate in good faith
and follow all laws and statutes.
• Contracts: There are no standard
contracts which can be from 20 pages
to 60 pages.
“It’s shocking how they vary from
one to another,” said Del Colle.
• Reclamation & Decommissioning
must be negotiated in the contract
before signing because these generators
have a lifespan averaging 20 years.
Negotiate maintenance, fencing,
access roads, weed control, as once
signed none of that can be readdressed
unless, as a landowner, you
take it to civil court.
• Liability and Indemnity clauses
need to be addressed in the contracts.
EVERYONE WELCOME
Wind farm in Palm Springs, CA went weeks without generating power during a very
calm December, 2017.
ECA Review/J. Webster
• Confidentiality Clauses:
Companies like to pit neighbour
against neighbour. Del Colle encouraged
attendees to “see if you can
negotiate around it.
“Everything your neighbour is getting,
so should you.”
Landowner, John Forrest agreed
stating at the meeting that he had
interest in their area, but he had told
the company to call a coffee shop
meeting with all neighbours affected.
He never heard back from anyone.
• Watch out for ‘opt out’ and termination
clauses that may preclude you
from other companies coming in.
Should the company not follow
through with the project, you want to
maintain the ability to negotiate with
other companies.
Revised chicken bylaw moves ahead
Lisa Joy
ECA Review
Alix residents can have chickens
soon in residential areas only after
council gave first reading to a revised
bylaw regulating chickens and coops
in the village.
Council considered allowing
chickens in agricultural and urban
reserve districts but decided, during
their regular meeting Feb. 7, to only
allow them in residential districts.
“This fits with what I’m hearing
from council,” said Alix’s Chief
Administrative Officer (CAO) Michelle
White told council when presenting
them their options.
She provided three options
including: in residential only; in any
district other than commercial or
industrial; or in residential and agricultural
and urban reserve areas.
During council’s Jan. 17 meeting
council declined giving the bylaw
second reading in order for CAO
White to revise the draft bylaw to
include suggestions council made,
such as the distance for setbacks of
coops from fences or houses and which
districts they should be allowed.
CAO White also revised
the draft bylaw to change
the definition ‘keep’ to ‘possess.’
The bylaw was also
amended to ensure a coop is
housed in the rear or side
yard of a property.
The village allowed a temporary
chicken coop but it’s
currently located in an
urban reserve district.
A public hearing will be
held for the bylaw but no
date has been set yet.
Fire chief appointment
Village council approved
the Alix Fire Department’s
re-election of Fire Chief
Darren Hiron. Corrie
Anderson and Ken
Anderson were re-elected
as deputy fire chiefs.
Joyce Simard will continue
as treasurer; Holly
Plunkett will continue as
secretary; and Ian Andrews
will continue as Member of
the Floor.
Other appointed positions
include: Fire Training
Officer – Ken Henry;
Lieutenant – Scott Stadynk;
Equipment Managers –
Cody Kromm and Al
Zimmer; Medical Captains –
Auditor presentation
Daniel Luymes, of BDO in
council for more than an
hour on BDO’s role as the
village’s financial auditor
and the audit process and
gave councillors the chance
‘Negotiating Renewable Energy Leases’ second edition available
Cont’d from Pg 5
Before companies even
approach a landowner, they
have done all the environmental,
water assessments,
etc. required by Alberta
Environment, so you should
try and negotiate access to
all these reports.
• Tax & Land Sale implications:
Have your accountant
look at the tax implications
and a property assessor look
at future sale of the
land, or transferring
to future
generations.
Property
Easement: When
asked about easements
on the entire
quarter of land, Del
Colle confirmed,
“What they like to
do is take an option
on the entire section
but the placement of
it [wind generators]
can be determined.”
She went on to
say, “Alberta
Utililites
Commission (AUC) who
have the final say, is, in
some applications doing a
two phase approval at the
hearings, first for the
project itself and that is
when landowners need to
get involved if you have concerns
where future
placement might be.”
“You need to put forward
your concerns and objections
[to the AUC] at that
point,” she said.
“Work with the company
so you can figure out exactly
where the placement will
be but they can take that
whole easement, so that’s
what I’m saying, you’re
really entering into a relationship
with a company
that’s going to last 20-30-
40-60 years and there’s no
getting out of it, so you’re
now going to be asking
them permission for what
you are going to be doing
on your land”.
Make sure clauses are in
the contract “to protect
yourself so the company
can’t use your land for
their collateral”.
“They’ll put a caveat on
your land title like the oil
and gas companies but
they shouldn’t be using it
to finance their project.
“Find out your borrowing
rights using this
property for collateral
with the easements by
renewable energy companies,”
said Del Colle.
“Your land is now tied
up,” said Del Colle, “you
have to ask them permission,
‘Can I do this?’ ”
The renewable energy
developer will examine
other encumbrances on the
title, such as leases or
rights-of-way for pipelines
or well sites.
Each licensed development
has associated
setbacks that will need to be
observed.
“As a landowner, you
should be aware of any other
caveats on your land title
and ensure that the developer
has an understanding
of the other infractures on
the land.
“Be careful that you are
not giving the operator the
right to remove obstructions,
unless you intend to
do so.”
• Rates: Three
options most
often, are Fixed,
Variable and
Fixed Plus
Variable, which
the latter FAO
recommends.
Wind generator blade broken off at wind farms in Palm Springs,
CA. and a structure in the background with no blades December
2017. ECA Review/J.Webster
Fixed is set for the lifetime
of the contract whether producing
electricity or not but
Variable is paid according to
power produced and could
initially result in higher revenue.
However, if the
turbines are not producing
power, then there is no
revenue.
If, at end of life especially,
the turbines are not operating,
on Variable you get
nothing, so that is why FAO
suggests a combined Fixed
Plus Variable rate.
“
You’re really
entering into a
relationship with a
company that’s going
to last 20-30-40-60
years and there’s no
getting out of it, so
you’re now going to
be asking them
permission for
what you are going
to be doing on
your land.
• Insolvency: One resident
in attendance expressed
concern that the biggest
problem with these projects
was insolvency of
companies.
“Potentially they could
make all the money and
then walk away by just
saying they can’t afford to
take them down. They take
the easy way out from the
expense of reclamation,
restructuring or re-fitting
by declaring bankruptcy
and not being responsible
for the unsightly things.”
Unlike oil and gas companies
who contribute under
an Orphan Well Act, there is
nothing in place if these
companies declare
insolvency.
Del Colle agreed landowners must
be prepared that they could become
insolvent stating, although the government
vets the companies of the initial
projects, there is no vetting for buyouts
from other
companies which is a
concern.
“There are a lot of
foreign entities coming
into Alberta so it is
really necessary to do
your due diligence”.
“Look to the
proven successful
companies, look to
see whose backing
them,” said Del Colle.
Expropriation:
Although the land
can not be expropriated
for the wind or
solar farms or for the
power lines going to
the substation, expropriation
can occur for
transmission lines
going from the substation
to the grid.
“Participation is
100 per cent voluntary
but neighbours
could be affected by those lines even if
they do not have wind generators or
solar on their land.”
Del Colle urged landowners to take
into consideration, that “if you decline
interest, the developer may find an
alternative location, and the new spot
may be located nearby, in which case
you would experience the impacts
without any offsetting revenue”.
Community:
Don’t allow these companies to pit
neighbour against neighbour, she
urged.
“This is a community decision, you
have to talk to your community, know
what’s there because you might be
saying yes to the power plant but
your neighbour could be affected.
Hold them [companies] to a higher
standard,” she said.
“Assure yourself and neighbours
that there is a pooling compensation
built into the contract for adjacent
landowners,” said Del Colle.
Work with the company to figure
out placement of the wind generators
away from neighbouring property
lines who aren’t part of the project,
and ensure it’s in the contract.
• Gaps in policy:
There are lots of gaps in the policies,
but the government needs to
weigh the right of the landowner
who wants them and the landowner
who doesn’t,” stated Del Colle. “It’s
respecting the people who do want
that resource, it’s a balance. “
“It seems strange,” said one resident,
“that they [government] have
allowed to start without a reclamation
plan, no accountability.”
The gap has been identified and
they are working on regulations and
many other legal issues, said Del
Colle.
When asked
why the government
doesn’t
allow wind turbines
on crown
land, Del Colle
replied, the government
is
looking at it.
Del Colle sits on
several advisory
communities as
an entity for the
Minister of
Agriculture however,
the
renewable energy
falls under the
Ministry of
Alberta
“
Environment and Parks.
Del Colle advises landowners
to get a copy of the
Second Edition of the
Negotiating Renewable
Energy Leases and sign up
for the emails at www.
farmersadvocate@gov.
She also noted that landowners
Council approves six-month trial on Facebook
Emily Wheller
ECA Review
Paintearth County council has
decided to use social media, specifically
a Facebook page, on a six-month
trial and be re-evaluated in October at
their regular meeting on Feb. 6.
Administration assured council
that there would be no need to hire
another employee as it could be dealt
with in-house.
The page will act as a bulletin for
information only and be controlled by
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
Tarolyn Aaserud.
Police update
Sgt. McGunigal, who recently
returned to the Coronation detachment
from a six month paternity leave,
gave a quarterly update and established
the 2018 policing priorities for
the detachment.
These priorities are traffic safety,
property crime and substance abuse.
Sgt. McGunigal shared that just
because these are the priorities it will
not be the only focus of the
detachment.
In the third quarter the Coronation
detachment gave 89 tickets regarding
traffic safety.
According to Sgt. McGunigal property
crime, which includes break and
enters and theft, has been on steady
decline for the last year.
The detachment has recently set up
an email address for citizens to share
verifiable information regarding
illegal drug activity.
Sgt. McGunigal expressed that this
is a way to encourage communication
between citizens and officers.
Sgt. McGunigal also gave a detachment
update, sharing that a new
member has recently joined, and one
is currently on maternity leave.
Coronation seed plant request
Council has agreed to wait until the
organizational meeting to re-evaluate
the number of county representatives
involved with the seed plant.
The Coronation Seed Plant believes
that only one representative is sufficient,
while currently two councillors
sit on the board.
The possible change in representatives
does not affect the finances of the
seed plant and is thought of as a costsaving
measure for the county.
Review Reporter
Drumheller-Stettler MLA Rick
Strankman met with Clearview
Trustees during the Feb. 8 regular
board meeting.
Discussing how the United
Conservative Party can best support
education in Alberta, the board advocated
stable, sustainable funding,
focussing on the importance of protecting
rural education funding to
ensure equity of opportunity for all students
in our communities.
Vital funding includes “Small School
by Necessity” for both education and
maintenance, transportation, and
“Equity of Opportunity” funding.
According to the board report, the
basic per student grant, which provides
about half of the division’s funding, has
had only one increase in the last five
years, while the Small School by
Necessity grant has had one increase in
the last eight years.
Likewise, transportation and maintenance
funding have seen only one
increase in the past eight years.
In fact, changes to the funding
framework have resulted in a decline
in both transportation and maintenance
funding.
In transportation, removal of the fuel
price contingency grants reduced
funding by $300,000 or approximately
10 per cent of transportation grants.
In maintenance, removal of the special
education factor resulted in a
funding reduction of $250,000 or
approximately 10 per cent of maintenance
grants.
The board went on to point out how
funding cutbacks can lead to service
level reductions, increased fees to
parents, and decreased employment in
rural communities.
According to Board Chair Ken
Checkel, up till now, Clearview has
been very successful rolling with the
punches.
By drawing down on reserves in a
planned manner the division has been
able to meet operational needs, but with
total operating reserves projected to
decrease by 62 per cent from $4,928,941
at August 2010 to $1,864,191 at August
2018, the ability to continue operations
under the current model may be
strained due to lack of resources.
Constance Elizabeth Richardson
passed Feb. 5, 2018 at Castor, Ab. at the
age of 82.
Constance Elizabeth Richardson
(nee Attrell) was born Dec. 29, 1935 at
home in Calgary, Ab., the only
daughter of Stephen and Helen
Attrell. Her schooling was at
Rideau Park and Western
Canada high school.
In 1958 she married Clayton
Richardson in Calgary and to
this union were born children
Brenda (Larry) Handford,
Byron (Susan) Richardson,
Barbara “Colleen” (Bret) Taylor
and Bernadeen (Grant) Rogers.
She is survived by three sisters-in-law,
Alice Richardson, Doreen
Attrell and Cheryl Attrell, along with
her husband and four children,
including 15 grandchildren and 26
great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by parents
Stephen and Helen Attrell, two older
brothers, Ken Attrell and Douglas
Attrell, and one younger brother,
Robert Attrell.
As a single young woman, she was
employed at the Calgary Police Court
as a stenographer and loved her job
interviewing people on behalf of
Magistrate Reid.
Once married, she managed a busy
home with four children, often alone
while Clayton flew as a pilot.
Clayton and Connie moved from
Winnipeg,
Manitoba to the
farm in
Brownfield, Ab.
in the spring of
1971 and Connie
made the adjustment
from city
