Regulations<br />
Horsepower Limits: None<br />
Speed Limit:<br />
1. 20 mph at night<br />
2. 5 mph within 200 feet of a dock,<br />
moored boat or shore<br />
3. No Wake Zones as marked<br />
Life Jackets:<br />
1. A wearable life jacket/preserver at<br />
all times for every person on vessel.<br />
Between 11/1 and 5/1 (on any<br />
vessel less than 21’ including rowboats,<br />
canoes & kayaks) all persons<br />
must wear a USCQ approved<br />
personal floatation device.<br />
2. Children under 12 must wear<br />
life jacket/preserver at all times<br />
3. Lake Erie only - Children must<br />
wear Type 2PFS preserver.<br />
Registration:<br />
1. Vessels must have valid<br />
registration from home state.<br />
2. Vessels kept on NYS inland<br />
waterways over 90 days must<br />
have a valid NYS registration<br />
3. No insurance requirements.<br />
Special Regulations:<br />
1. Individuals born on or after<br />
5/1/96 are required to successfully<br />
complete an approved<br />
course in boater education in<br />
order to operate a motorboat.<br />
Individuals less than 10 years of<br />
age may not take this course of<br />

course not required for renting<br />
boats from authorized marinas.<br />
2. Privately Owned Personal<br />
Water Craft (“Jet Skis”) – NYS<br />
requires ALL operators of<br />
personal water craft to obtain a<br />
safety certificate. For specific<br />

3. PWC operators must hold a<br />
safety certificate from their<br />
resident state (and be in<br />
possession of certificate)<br />
4. Findley Lake – navigate in a<br />
counter-clockwise direction<br />

June 26 and Wednesday, June 27,<br />
<strong>2018</strong> from 5:30 - 9:30 pm. Class held<br />
at <strong>Chautauqua</strong> Marina, 104 West<br />
Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757.<br />
Safe Boating Classes meet all the<br />
requirements for the New York Safe<br />
Boating Program. Preregistration is<br />
