Chautauqua County’s urban center
lies in the Greater Jamestown area
from Falconer to Lakewood. Find shopping
and dining in downtown historic
Jamestown, at the Chautauqua Mall
with several popular chain stores, and
along historic Chautauqua Avenue in
Lakewood. Just off I-86 at Exit 12, this
once industrial hub is transformed
with theaters, museums, art and music
studios, cafes, restaurants, recreation,
and a river walk park anchored by the
new National Comedy Center. Designed
by Jack Rouse Associates and
the interactive specialist Local Projects,
which recently completed work on the
9/11 Memorial Museum, the National
Comedy Center will feature the first
world-class visitor experience entirely
devoted to comedy; both the craft
and its contributors
Throughout the year, performances,
sporting events, and festivals draw
visitors and residents alike to downtown
Jamestown. The Lucille Ball
Desi Arnaz Museum and Center for
Comedy attracts fans from all over
the world while a few blocks down the
street, the Northwest Arena hosts
big name performers, Friday night
comedy, and local hockey teams. A
growing Theatre District offers stage
and cinematic events held at venues
like the Reg Lenna Center for the
Arts, a beautifully restored vaudeville
theater; the Lucille Ball Little
Theatre of Jamestown, New York
State's largest community theater;
and Willow Bay and Spire Theaters.
