Letter from
PRESIDENT
ROLLINS
Morehouse Community,
I am Kamren Rollins, a senior English major, from Washington, DC and I have the distinct honor of serving
as the 86th Student Government President (SGA) and Student Trustee of Morehouse College. As the President
of the SGA it is my job to ensure that the student body’s voice and interests are both represented and
protected. It is my responsibility to be a champion for student rights and well-being.
By focusing on our strategic plan and operational goals to we have been able to make significant strides
towards positioning some of the key issues that will impact students at the College for years to come. This
semester the Noble Administration decided to take it one step further. It was our goal to not only advocate
for the student body, but also to impact students in a transformative way. We wanted to develop students
holistically by implementing programs, shifting dialogue, and creating policies that forced all of us to take an
honest inventory of ourselves. The programs and initiatives that we developed were designed to purposefully
engage the student body so each program reflected the specific on-campus climate or explored the
perpetual problems that were deeply rooted within our communities.
Our major goal was to fulfill our pledge to Morehouse College by engaging and serving communities that
border our institution and those that were some distance away; thus, we decided to organize the 3rd annual
Get on the Bus trip, partnered with the SGAs of the Atlanta University Center to host a Mayoral Forum, and
we created initiatives such as the My Brother’s Legacy Tour. As student leaders, we realize the responsibility
that we must serve the student body, the college, and our communities properly and effectively. We understand
that we have the influence to bring about change, and we have a chance to leave a lasting impression
on the entire Morehouse community. We do not take this responsibility lightly.
Yet and still, we sometimes find ourselves troubled with the fear of not accomplishing all that we have set
out to do. No matter what magnitude we dedicate to our positions we still sometimes walk away feeling
like we haven’t quite done enough. So, I would like to dedicate this midterm report to the student leaders,
whether you have an official position on campus or in the community, I want to thank you for your passion
and unwavering commitment; you represent an organ of Morehouse that is essential to the survival of its
strong legacy.
I would like to kindly thank you, the student body, for your continuous love and support that you have gifted
us. Throughout the first half of this journey, your belief and confidence in us have made this experience
truly remarkable. We look forward to continuing the work that we have done to enhance the student experience
and to uplift our communities.
REPORT
PROGRAMMING
SpelHouse Network – On
August 20th, the Spelman SGA
and Morehouse SGA hosted
the “SpelHouse Network” –
formally known as the Brother
Sister Exchange. Each Morehouse
freshman or transfer student
was paired with a Spelman
freshman or transfer student.
The event gave the Class of
2021 the opportunity to create
professional, platonic, and
authentic relationships across
neighboring institutions.
Registered Student Organization
Fair – On August 23rd,
we hosted the annual fall registered
student organization
fair. The purpose of the event
was for Morehouse’s registered
student organizations to promote
their organization to the
students of the Atlanta University
Center (AUC), as well as for
AUC students to sign-up to join
or network with various organizations
on campus. There were
forty-five organizations in attendance,
ten of which were newly
chartered organizations.
Fight Night: Watch Party – On
August 26th, in collaboration
with the Campus Alliance for
Student Activities (CASA), we
held a watch party featuring the
Floyd Mayweather vs. Colin Mc-
Gregor fight, in Bank of America
auditorium. The turnout was
great and students could enjoy
the fight without leaving campus.
The purpose of this event
was to foster a fun environment
in which AUC students could
enjoy possibly the most anticipated
fight of the century.
Labor Day CASGA Cookout
– On September 4th, we partnered
with the CASA, among
various other organizations to
put on our annual AUC-wide Labor
Day cookout. We provided
free food and various games for
students who were on campus
for the Holiday. We also had a
voter registration tables so that
students could get registered to
vote in the state of Georgia.
Freedman’s Convention
2017 – In September, we held
a series of conversations on
Brown Street to ask and discuss
important topics with students
of the AUC. This came twice in
the year. The first question was
to ask students “Do We Really
Love Black Women?” and
the second was a conversation
about the usage of the N-word.
Anti-N**** Campaign – In
partnership with the Freedman’s
Convention, we created
a Campaign for students to
truly evaluate their usage of the
word “n-word” in their daily life.
This included an open forum
and T-Shirt Campaign.
Football Tailgates – In partnerships
with the Turnt Tigers, we
hosted tailgates (which included
a DJ and food) for home games
to promote a fun atmosphere
this football season. Additionally,
we encouraged students
to support the football team at
home games as well as away
games by buying a bus to travel
to the game against Albany
State University.
SGA Crown Forum – On October
12th, we hosted an annual
event that serves as the official
inauguration of the Morehouse
College Student Government
Association elected and appointed
officials. This program
allowed for the SGA and its vision
to be re-introduced to the
entire student body. We also
allowed all student leaders who
were appointed or elected in
the fall to be represented and
take the pledge of governance.
Goal Box Initiative – As the
semester came to an end, a lot
of student students started to
get overwhelmed with school
work and stress about finals. As
part of the Goal Box Initiative,
students wrote goals for themselves
and some of the expectations
they have for the Noble
Administration. This helped
M I D T E R M R E P O R T 7

students envision their goals and plan for the
end of the semester.
Noble Student of the Week – Great accomplishments
should never go unnoticed. We
encouraged students to send us profiles of other
students on campus who were really having an
impact on the world around them, so we could
acknowledge them. For example, our first set of
Noble Students of The Week were the freshman
hall presidents for being the voice of the Freshman
Class at various town hall and public safety
meetings.
Stress Ctrl – On November 23rd, before Finals
week, the SGA provided free massages and donuts
to students to help them relax before their
examinations. This event allowed for students to
center themselves before entering finals week.
Presidents Pancake Breakfast – On December
3rd, we kicked-off Finals week by hosting an
event in Chivers Hall where the presidents of the
Registered Student Organizations (RSO) served
the student body pancakes and other breakfast
foods.
Words Ablaze – The Noble Administration hosted
the first Words Ablaze event on December
7th, students had the opportunity to write down
habits and attributes about themselves that they
desired to leave in 2017 so that they could throw
it in a fire and burn them.
Website – Transitioned SGA website from Resurgent
to the Noble Administration. The website
allows for students to be made aware of the
members and events of the Noble Administration.
Council is a council made up of the presidents
or chairpersons of every registered organization
on campus. The President’s Council met for the
first time in over two years, in mid-September.
Topics discussed included: the organizational
structure of the Morehouse Office of Student
Life, resources available through the Office of
we asked the concerns of the student body
and President Martin also told students how he
planned to address student concerns.
Morehouse who are challenged with affording an
adequate meal plan. This initiative provides meal
vouchers for students in need.
One Mistake Don’t Make It - This semester
the Attorney Generals spread awareness about
Morehouse’s Code of Conduct and the Student
Conduct process to the student body through
dorm walkthroughs and programs. The Attorney
Generals also defended and advocated on the
behalf of students in hearing cases.
• One Mistake Don’t Make It Campaign - A
proactive campaign that was created to prevent
conduct violations. The campaign was
aimed at preventing students from making a
Tasks to Complete for
Spring Semester
Sexual Violence Task Force – We are in
the process of creating a sexual violence
task force. We plan to create multiple
workshops that are continuous throughout
the semester that focus on sexual
violence. This plan is due to the high
amount of sexual violence that occurs
on all three of the AUC campuses.
Campus Renovations - SGA advocated
and pushed for renovations to take
place in Kilgore to ensure that students
had an adequate student center and
study space. We are happy to announce
that Kilgore will be renovated this semester
and will also have extended
hours. We are also working with the
Office of Student Services to continue
the progress on Hope Park and the
commuter lounge in Archer Hall.
Student Councils
To address the concerns of several
departments at our beloved institution
we have created student councils which
consists of:
• Graduation and Retention - We
want to increase graduation and
retention rates. Also find out why
students aren’t graduating or coming
back and find tangible solutions
to ensure that students are not only
returning to school the following
year, but also attaining their degree
within four years.
• Food Services - This committee
focuses on the quality of the food,
customer service, cleanliness, and
overall experience of the various
food facilities that are on campus
• Office of Housing Residential
Education (OHRE) Task Force - To
improve the relationship between
housing staff, and its residents, as
well as the student experience and
residential life.
• Student Life - To find new ways to
engage and improve the student
experience at Morehouse College.
Council Interviews and Application
Review - Created a multifaceted application
to gauge student interest in four
student council areas. We then screened
pool of applicants for an interview to
evaluate which council they would be
best suited for and how they would be
an asset to SGA. We then selected the
different people for each specific council
based on students’ interview, application,
and resume.
Morehouse family,
Letter from Vice President
Cooper and Senate Update
My name is John Cooper. I am a senior, Political Science major, Sociology minor from
Atlanta, Georgia. I am tremendously honored to serve as Vice President of the Morehouse
Student Government Association and President of the 88th Senate Session for the 2017-
2018 academic school year. The executive board alongside the 88th Senate Session works
to accurately represent the student body, while redefining the status quo and demanding
excellence. With 2017 now serving as a memory, a lesson, and a blessing for us all, I am
excited to see where this year will take us.
As members of the legislative branch, our work is executed through legislation and appropriations.
Legislation includes bills and resolutions proposed by Senators with the purpose
of amending campus policy. Appropriations are funds given to Registered Student Organizations
(RSOs) to assist with programming and organizational development. I am proud to
say the 88th Senate Session has worked tirelessly to propose and pass new legislation, and
to allocate a large amount of the appropriations budge to assist RSO.
Making progress on-campus and in the surrounding communities, members of the 88th
Senate Session implemented the Swipe Out program allowing for students without a
meal plan to access free, meal vouchers. We have created two taskforces: Neighborhood
Planning Unit Taskforce, where senators voice the concerns of Atlanta University Center
students to community leaders, while having a vote in the neighborhood development
surrounding the AUC and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Also, Campus Safety taskforce, where
senators meet with Chief Dalton, faculty and students every Thursday at 4pm in Mays
Lounge to strategize the improvement of campus safety. Our current mayor, Keisha Lance
Bottoms, and former opponent Mary Norwood participated in a political debate forum
planned by members of the 88th Senate Session and executive board.
In the future senators will continue monthly walk-throughs as they survey Residential Houses
to ensure the safety and wellness of students in each residential house. Please, do not
hesitate to voice your concerns or propose solutions to any of our student leaders. While
many bills are proposed by elected and appointed senators, and most events are planned
by senators, every member of the student body has the right to propose bills with the
sponsorship or co-legislation of a senator. As Article II of the Morehouse Student Government
Association Constitution reminds us, “All students of Morehouse College shall
be members of the Student Government Association”. We ask that all students let their
voices be heard! The 88th Senate Session meets every Tuesday at 7pm in Kilgore Seminar
Rooms. Meetings are open for all students to voice their concerns, and strategize with
elected and appointed leaders.
We give high regard to all concerns, questions and critiques so that we may better serve
the student body and promote the values Morehouse has instilled in us.
I pray that every student at Mother Morehouse finds their peace as they work to lay roots
with hopes of growing tall enough to wear the crown Morehouse has placed over our
heads, as envisioned by Dr. Howard Thurman.
Closing
In closing, we hope that this report has shown the diligent work the Noble
Administration has done throughout the first semester. We do not take the
responsibility of advocating on behalf of the student body lightly – it is an
honor we take great pride in. In the spring semester, we will continue to
serve the students at Morehouse College with passion, creativity, and intellect.
We ask that you all continue to support us as we leave a prosperous
legacy for future generations.
Nobly,
The Noble Administration
