Trenchless Asia is once again supported by
ISTT and is the only Trenchless event in Asia to gain
IWK’s support. GSTT (German Society for Trenchless
Technology) will also be hosting the largest German
Pavilion ever to be exhibited at Trenchless Asia. The
German Pavilion will sit alongside those secured by
China and Singapore

This year’s event will present a blend of over 100
global and local companies showcasing machinery,
products and methods which are available to aid
the installation and refurbishment of underground
utilities and pipelines without disruption to the
surface. These include: Horizontal Directional Drilling
(HDD), Auger boring, CCTV, Micro-tunnelling, Pipe
Bursting, Underground Detection Equipment Inspection
Systems, Digital Mapping, Ground Probing Radar,
Cleaning Equipment, Pipe Jacking, CIPP, Pipe Lining
Materials, Surveying Tools and Safety Equipment.
Planning and construction of utilities is often difficult
due to ageing infrastructure and service area congestion,
therefore the need for trenchless technology has never
been greater. This has only served to further fire up
industry support surrounding the event. The programme
will once again boast some of the sector’s leading
innovators, pioneers and though leaders, such as: Utility
personnel – water, sewerage, telecoms, electricity, oil and
gas contractors, government officers, civil engineering
consultants and research organizations.
WHY MALAYSIA?
The decision to move the event to Kuala Lumpur in 2016
proved a major success with exhibitors and visitors,
attracted by the significant investment being made in the
use of trenchless technology in Southeast Asia in recent
years. This looks set to continue as pressure increases from
governments and local authorities to use these modern
engineering methods to minimise disruption during the
installation and refurbishment of underground services,
and to reduce impact on the environment.
Huge strides have been made in the use of trenchless
technology in Malaysia in recent years, and pressure
from authorities has been placed on contractors to
use the modern engineering methods to minimise
disruption during the installation and refurbishment
phase of projects, as well as reducing the impact on
the environment. Across Malaysia, major projects are
completed every day, proving that trenchless techniques
provide economic solutions and reduced environmental
impact. The social costs are reduced, benefitting
business communities, as well as the travelling public. A
budget of RM 5.6 billion (approximately US $1.7 billion),
has been allocated by KeTTHA to improve the sewerage
infrastructure of the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley.
This funding will enable the construction of regional
sewage treatment plants, sewer networks and upgrading
the existing sewerage facilities and is due to be completed
by September 2020. There is also the Malaysia Plan that
has over RM80 Billion of projects including tenders in
public transport, oil & gas downstream infrastructure and
water-related jobs.
HISTORY OF THE EVENT
Trenchless Asia has a reputation for attracting top
quality audiences to this highly-focused exhibition and
conference and since its inception, the Trenchless Asia
brand has more than tripled in value. The event was first
held in Singapore in 1995 and has subsequently been
held in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore. In May
2017, Westrade Group announced that the exhibition
would move from a bi-annual to an annual event due to
overwhelming market demand.
In 2019, the event will be held for the first time in Jakarta,
Indonesia and then in 2020, the event will return to KL, its
home on a bi-annual basis.
