OUR BRAND & SCOOTER BASICS

SKATE BENEFITS
BECAUSE SKATING IS FUN !
Skating is less harsh on your body than running, and certainly more
fun, so it’s ideal for this purpose. Anyone can do it. It’s a fun way
to reconcile yourself with sport. It’s also a cheap option that’s easily
accessible, can be done either alone or in a group, and helps you
quickly gain self-confidence and the ability to accept your body.
FUN
ADRENALINE
A GENTLE ACTIVITY FOR YOUR BODY
Unlike jogging, skating is an activity that won’t damage your joints,
particularly the cartilage in your ankles, knees and hips. You’ve got constant
gliding contact with the floor. If you want to skate safely, it’s worth
investing in the right protective gear (helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and
wrist guards). As an endurance sport, skating also helps improve your
circulation, stimulates and strengthens your cardio and, when done
regularly, reduces the risk of suffering a heart attack as you get older.
A SPORT THAT IMPROVES YOUR FITNESS
Then get your skates on ! Skating and can burn up to 500 calories per hour,
making it ideal for boosting your fitness and building muscle. Say goodbye to
those unwanted curves and beer bellies !
Because it calls on all of your muscles, particularly your lower body, skating is
an all-round sport combining exercise with pleasure. Perfect for getting fit while
having fun. And it is not just for girls !
PLEASURE
6 Skate by Oxelo

1760 : FIRST ROLLER SKATE
The first roller skates has been created by John Joseph Merlin
from Huy, in Belgium. He had the idea of adapting ice skating
to firm ground in fixing metal rollers on a wooden plate.
1852 : DISCOVERING THE BALL-BEARINGS
The English Joseph Gidman filed a patent for roller skates
equipped with ball bearings. 30 more years were needed
before the first roller equipped with ball bearings saw the light.
1863 : FIRST ROLLER QUAD
Roller Quad made its first appearance at the instigation
of the American James Leonard Plimpton. That skate
was made of 4 wooden wheels mounted on two trucks.
1992 : FLIGHT OF INLINE SKATING
Inline skates and skating accessories become a billion dollar
international industry, with nearly 26 million Americans participating.
OXELO : « ANYONE, ANYTIME »
WHEELS DIMENSION
Wheel size is determined by the sports use.
If the wheel is big :
More inertia for long distances
Easy to overcome borders
Less maneuvarability
More comfortable for long distance
In the other case, if the wheel is small :
More manoeuvrability
More reactive for freeride
Easy to control speed for kids
A big wheel is ideal for fitness skate which we are looking for speed and
stability. A small wheel is more manoeuvrable and more reactive allowing
to practice freeride or agressive.
WHEELS SHORE
The hardness or « shore » of the wheel (denoted by an « A ») is an important
element for a good glide performance.
The harder the wheel :
Longer lifespan
More reactive
Less comfortable.
Less grip
In the other case, the softer the wheel :
Good stability
Less vibrations
A soft wheel is ideal for fitness skaters beginner who are looking for
comfort. A hard wheel is more resistant but there is less grip. We generally
use hard wheels for agressive, street skate, speed or freeride..
FRAMES
The frame ensures the link between the boot and the wheels. Its technical
characteristics (rigidity, length…) may considerably vary according to the
practice. Each discipline and level has its own type of frame. Frames are
available in plastic or aluminium. It will depend on your sport use.
PLASTIC
CONFORT
If the frame is long, it procures :
More stability
Better energy
Less maneuvarability
Less handy
ALUMINIUM
PERFORMANCE
ALUMINIUM EXTRUDED
RESISTANCE
if the frame is short, it procures :
More maneuvrability
More reactivity
Less stability
Low speed
A short frame is very good for slalom, aggressive and free skating.
A long frame is rather used for long distance skating or speed skating.
PLASTIC OR
ALUMINIUM ?
A Plastic frame will offer a
better comfort as its flexibility
absorbs vibrations and
shocks. On the other hand, it
is less reactive and the. transmission
of the stride energy
is less efficient
Aluminium frame are more
reactive. Yet, they ‘explode’
rather.tt than bend in case
of a violent shock. No risk
however with intensive use,
they.have a great resistance
to effort.
BEARINGS
The bearings used for skating are type 608 and 688 bearing, with few exceptions
: few 800-27 bearings can be found too. These are deep groove
ball bearings (600 series). A 608 bearing has a 8mm bore (diameter of the
central hole). The « 6 » in « 600 » is the space in millimeters between the
outer sides of the 2 cylinders.
BEARING COMPONENTS :
Rolling bodies
At Oxelo, the bearings used for skating are type 608 with ABEC norm bearing.
You can mainly find Oxelo wheels with ABEC 1, 3, 5 and 7. Let’s note
that the ABEC standard is a reference in the world of inline skating and
that it has even become a sales argument used by distributors.
Cage
Inner race
Outer race
ABEC,
A BEARING NORM
There are lots of norms
defining a bearing (designa
tion, manufacturing tolerance,
load capacity, radial play
standards).We mainly talk
about ISO, standards but the
most famous is the ABEC
(American standard). It goes
from 1 to 3, 5, 7, 9 and even
11 for skates.
It defines the precision of the
ball bearing : tolerance on the
inner and outer sides. The
higher the ABEC index,
the more precise the
bearings. For exemple, an
ABEC 7 is better than an
ABEC 1 bearing.
OIL LUBRICANT
OR GREASE ?
Two lubrication types are
frequently used : grease or
oil. Oil has the advantage to
be changed regularly and
opposes less resistance than
grease. Nevertheless, it is
often used with ZZ shields.
These shields do not hold oil,
after a few minutes of skating
there is not much oil left.
Some greases have sliding
and friction characteristics
which suit better the needs
of skating. Moreover, they
prevent dust and water to
penetrate into the bearing better.
It is all about dosing the
grade percentage. Just a little
grease will favor the gliding.
doing slow speed rides. Their aim
is to master the basics: getting up,
pushing off, maintaining their balance,
turning, and braking using
the toe stop.
Short and medium distances.
Intermediates can perform basic
moves at higher speeds, as well
as T-stops, tight turns and crossover
URBAN
FREERIDE, FREESTYLE & AGRESSIVE

A freestyle discipline similar to skateboarding, freestyle skating is practised on half-pipes and in the street, in the urban environment. Skaters do
jumps and slides, skates on their feet. Features of freestyle skates? They are inline skates with small, hard wheels with plastic coverings and an
edged shell for slides on guardrails and half-pipes. The skates are more imposing, but also more durable.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR FREERIDE SKATES
SHOE
If you want to make tricks, you
need a Hard Boot for more protection
and more support. If you
want to slalom cones, you need a
Soft Boot for more flexibility and
more breathable.
FRAME
Frame is extruded aluminium for
Freeride and Freestyle skates.
The difference is the length and
the width of the frame. A freeride
frame is longer (250mm) and
wider for impacts. A Freestyle
frame is shorter (243mm) and
thiner for manoeuvrability.
WHEELS
Wheels size and shore is the
same for Freeride and Freestyle.
Only Agressive has really small
wheels. The difference is the
wheels assembly. As explained
before, Banana Assembly is used
for Freestyle, and Neutral
Assembly for Freeride.
WINNING POINTS
1. PLV translates segmentation
and must be placed above
panoply to reinforce it.
2. Helmet and set of Protection
must be proposed in this layout.
« Difference between Fitness
Inline and Freeride skates
is the Hard Boot. This part
allow you to have a better
protection of the foot and
also an excellent support
in order to make tricks.
An other big difference is the
frame. It is shorter but more
resistant because it is thicker.
For Freeride, it is very important
to have manoeuvrability
and resistance in order to be
more reactive.
A Freeride skate can be ideal
for someone who would like to
very good support and a good
manoeuvrability. But, you
must care about bearings
INLINE SKATE
AGRESSIVE SKATE
SKATEPARK & STREET
Agressive is practiced in skatepark and in the streets. It generally uses
ramps, bars to make grind, abd urban moduls.
WHEELS
Agressive wheels are much smaller than inline skate.
SHOE BOOT
The shoe boot of an agressive skate is really comfortable, so that it
resists to impacts.
ROLLERS
ROLLER QUAD FITNESS

Roller Skate (or Quad) simply means that the skate has 4 wheels, 1 in each corner of the bottom of the skate. Quad skates have always been
considered the traditional skate.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR FITNESS QUAD SKATES
SHOE
For fitness quad skate, and if you
want to cruise around town, you
need a comfortable shoe. Your
feet is lower for more freedom in
your move.
WHEELS
For this specific discipline, you
also need soft wheels in order to
have comfort and grip. As seen
before, this kind of wheels allow
you to control your speed.
WINNING POINTS
1. PLV translates segmentation
and must be placed above
panoply to reinforce it.
2. To have more light, must
implant your quads on shoe racks
(PLV cod : ).
« Surprisingly, beginners have
more facilities with in-line
skates and become independant
more quickly. This is
particularly because the boot
of rollers inline is safer for the
ankle and if it is chosen to the
good size, it will hold solidly
the foot.
Furthermore, the location of
the wheels offer a better
stability back and forth.
Wheels are a lot of softer and
will allow to adapt to an external
more easily.
But, some of beginners prefer
the wide range of roller quad,
offering a better stability.»
TECHNICAL DIFFERENCES WITH INLINE SKATE
ROLLER FITNESS
INLINE SKATE
PROFILE OF THE WHEELS
Roller Quad wheels are flat. Inline skate wheels are elliptical. So an Inline
skate is faster, also because there is only one point of balance (there are
two for a Roller Quad).
BRAKE
Roller Quad brake is located at the front of the skate contrary to brake
of Inline Skate which is at the back.
SHOE BOOT
Inline Skate shoe is higher for a better support. Shoe boot is also
higher than Roller Fitness to protect your shin and your anckle.
TIGHTENING SYSTEM
Roller Quad only has laces or velcro. Inline skate has a lot of
tightening systems (micrometric buckle, strap, laces) so that there
is more support.
ARTISTIC
ARTISTIC ROLLER QUAD SKATES

Artistic skating is a variant of figure skating on ice, generally done on quad skates. Skaters do all kinds of acrobatics on their skates, synchronised
movements with jumps and pirouettes, all set to music. Balance, flexibility and perseverance are essential for artistic skating! The most important
thing in this discipline is grip on the ground: the choice of wheels should be made based on the type of surface.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR ARTISTIC QUAD SKATES
« Artistic Roller Skating is a
sliding sport discipline in
which people practises
jumps, figures and other
technical exercises using
roller skates.
First of all, thanks to the
rubber wheels and brakes,
beginners will find it extremely
easy to start this sport, it
allows a good stability
and it avoids slipping off.
Moreover the ABEC 3
PROTECTIONS
PROTECTIONS & HELMETS

Falling down is a natural step while learning skating. When you improve, you can choose to reinforce protection items (street/freeride protections)
or for lighter protection (when you practice speed ILS, usually you can choose to wear only hand or wrist protection). Thus, just remember that
protections are important, that they can be adapted to your practice or level. And if there is only one to keep, these is the wrist/hand protection
as approximatly 70% of the injuries in ILS are linked to this part of your body.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR HELMET
SIZE
Measure your head size or your
child’s. This measurement will tell
you whether you need to look at
S, M or L helmets (you’ll find size
charts in your local store).
DIVIDERS
You should also think about the
dividers (on the straps by your
neck). When correctly adjusted,
they will stop your helmet from
moving about.
ADJUSTMENT
Adjusting your helmet correctly
will make it more comfortable.
If you want your helmet to be
a good fit, use the adjustment
wheel at the back of the helmet, if
you have one.
