40 over Forty Absolutely Fabulous Women Awards Founder
Message from Rosanna Penilla-Bharucha
When I started the 40 over Forty four years ago, I
believed in a simple concept..a gathering to
celebrate and honor women from unexpected
places. Our first celebration was thought to be the
first and the last.
I was asked by our former Mayor Hazel McCallion, if this was an annual event. I was
choked to answer but she whispered to me and said "It is good. Ask for help, people will
help". Those words I can still hear today. The 40 over Forty Absolutely Fabulous Women
Awards became an annual signature event. Since 2014, we are proud to have awarded
200 women from 30 diverse and multicultural awardees from all walks of life in 3 cities,
Mississauga, Oakville, and Hamilton. In 2016, 40 over Forty was held in Hamilton and
Mississauga. As this is an initiative, we are solely dependent on volunteers, monetary and
exchange of services from small businesses to produce this prestigious Awards Gala for
40 women across the Golden Horseshoe Area. Our support comes from the individuals
who share the same passion and believe in the word "Thank You".
Tonight is a unique gathering as we celebrate a new milestone inspired by our Title
Sponsor, Mary Kay Cosmetics Canada. There are many people in this room who share
the same values and react to the needs of the community- our donors and sponsors,
supporters, friends, volunteers and people like you who have contributed to making this
Gala what we have envisioned to be, I say Thank you.
We rely on your support to continue providing a stage to 40 over Forty Absolutely Fabulous
Women in our communities. We are setting a good example for the young generation and
inspiring others to do more in building strong, healthy and thriving communities.
Come and join us again next year! In the meantime, sit back and relax.
Enjoy 40 over Forty AFW Awards 2018!

Message from the Chair
ARTIBELLO
LAURA
A self-empowered woman with spiritual will and happiness entered my life two
years ago, her name Rosanna Penilla-Bharucha.
Women and men, who give their time, help, support with any action or task
because they believe in the cause of humankind often go unnoticed. When
learning of a charity event they are the first to ask, "how can I help?" Nature &
grace are part of their characteristic being. Rosanna’s vision was to create a
signature event where 40 women over 40 would be appreciated for their positive
contribution in our communities. It is a celebration to say Thank You.
Blessed to hold same as attributes, my world has grown with inspiration, trust, and faith with lightening
force. Our paths crossed naturally for this noble cause. At the 4th annual AFW event, I recall giving what I
could; We all have something to give, something to share. Uplifting was the word to describe that day.
Fast forward one year ahead. Honoured to sit as Event Chair working with friends & colleagues, meeting
new people has raised my creativity and most importantly, appreciation for the 40 women over 40 whom
we celebrate this evening. Selfless work in the human revolution.
On behalf of myself, the cabinet, our ambassadors & volunteers with generous sponsorship support I cheer
the words, Thank You! Proud to say each of us committed to doing the best we can with the skills we have
developed. Let me share, this cabinet has one mission; be true to yourself, be kind to ourselves and bring
joy to those who raise the meaning of world citizenship.
Thank you for joining us tonight.
TYLER - CO-CHAIR
COLIN
I am honoured to be considered a cabinet member. This event
appeared to be the most significant in the Greater GTA / Golden
Horseshoe area that honoured this unique demographic of women
and what could I, as a man, do to help? After meeting founder
Rosanna Penilla-Bharucha and witnessing her passion, I was
motivated to action with the Cabinet Team.
I quickly saw the focus of AFW 40 Over Forty as a unique and worthy cause to heighten recognition of the
unsung heroines that the initiative salutes. After a few planning meetings with the event Cabinet, I soon realized
that I was working with a purpose guided, motivated team, planning a first-class celebration for the women who
volunteer and make a difference in our communities. This event, now in its 5th year, is positioned to provide the
award recipients with an enjoyable day dedicated to their hard work that often goes unnoticed.
AFW 40 over Forty is thankful to have Mary Kay Cosmetics (Canada) Inc. as a Title Sponsor and CalTech
Learning Centre as a Silver Sponsor. Dozens of other sponsors listed in this magazine have provided Draw &
Game Prizes, Awards, Fashions, Technical and Financial support to name but a few! We thank all these caring
community supporters.
I wish I was with you all to witness the joy of recognition in the eyes of these 40 Absolutely Fabulous Women!
Thank you all for participating in the making of their epic day. You have helped create a day for them to reflect
upon and to remember forever!

Hello Gorgeous!
Wow! What an amazing opportunity it is for Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. to be the title sponsor of this incredible
event, celebrating its 5th year. In fact, the theme of celebrating 40 over Forty Absolutely Fabulous Women fits
with our Company more this year than ever before, as we’ve been celebrating the success of women for the
past 40 years in Canada. And it’s all thanks to our incredible Founder, Mary Kay Ash.
She had a vision for women; that they could be – and do – anything they dreamed. So strongly did she hold this
belief that she took the traditional male-dominated workplace and turned it on its head with her business built
just for women. Armed with her $5,000 life savings, a solid business plan, a skin care breakthrough and an
unstoppable desire to change the working future for women, she opened the doors to an amazing opportunity.
Today, her influence and legacy is carried on to build confident, beautiful and connected women around the
world. In fact, with 3 million Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants and $3.5 billion in global annual
wholesale sales, Mary Kay is a top beauty brand and direct seller in more than 35 markets around the world.
A brilliant entrepreneur, innovator, barrier-breaker and motivator, Mary Kay also believed strongly in giving
back. We do that here in Canada through the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation by supporting women living
with cancer through the Look Good Feel Better® program and to support survivors of domestic violence by
providing grants to women's shelters and community outreach programs. We’re most proud of the fact that from
every dollar raised, 96 cents goes to these two important causes.
You know it as well as I do, that when you support a woman, you’re supporting families and, ultimately, your
community. And there’s nothing more beautiful than bearing witness to women supporting – and celebrating –
each other.
So here’s to an incredible evening of sharing, celebrating, and being in the presence of amazing women who
are beautiful, confident, and connected to each other and their communities.
Love & Belief,
Lynda C. Rose
General Manager, Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd.

Reach Out is a grass roots organization dedicated to breaking the silence of childhood
sexual abuse. So many adult survivors suffer in silence. Reach Out developed after
my court case when I took my abuser from 28 years prior to court and won. I was
swamped with interviews on television. and radio. Thus the development of Reach
Out.
Reach Out publishes a resource brochure for survivors with numbers to call for help.
This saves the survivor from having to tell their story over and over again while looking
for help. The numbers in the brochure have been researched so when you call there
are services available. The brochure also includes recommended reading.
It is my hope that the brochure travels throughout our community in Dr's offices,
Dentists, Hair dressers – all places where people look for something to read.
The Reach Out website is www.reachoutdirectory.ca
Thank you to Absolutely Fabulous Women for supporting our endeavour. Although you
may not see the faces of the women the brochure helps, please know you have made
a difference.
This crime is perpetuated by silence and it is time to break that silence. Talking is
healing.
In 2004 my husband was diagnosed
with stage 4 colon cancer and passed
away exactly 7 months from being
diagnosed. Six weeks later my father
passed from the same disease. It was
these 2 eventsin my life that made me
realize how important having friends
and family support is to the patient and caregiver.Since then
many friends were diagnosed with cancer and other illnesses
that require support. I now volunteer my time by bringing
them to their treatments, stay with them while they are
inpatients and continue to support them once they’re at
home. When a dear friend passed recently, I worked with his
wife to settle his estate.
One day at the hospital, a stranger approached and handed
me a parking pass, explaining she no longer needed it. That
pass paid for 8 visits to bring one of my friends to their
treatments.
committed and dedicated to saving these precious lives. We
save the dogs that people have cast aside, no longer want,
we love them and work hard to find the perfect family to call
tears for the precious lives who we could not save, their abuse
Community Support
Magda was born in Egypt as an only
child. Since her early childhood, Ishe
has had a deep love in helping her
community and her passion with all
ages have grown as the years go by.
She was very successful in her
academics which allowed her to
graduate with honors in Mechanical
Engineering.
Magda was also nominated and became captain of her Tennis
Table team. Her leadership won them the provincial trophy.
As successful as she was in Egypt, she dreamt of a better life
for her family. Magda came to Canada in 2003 with her
husband, 2 daughters, and a mother whom she cares for.
She continued her studies as a professional engineer while
working full time and raising her family. However, this career
was not what her heart longed for. In 2011 Magda decided to
venture into my her business in the healthcare sector.
She is now a successful independent businesswoman helping
her community; Care Forever.
Monica Graves created glamjulz
because she had a dream. SheI wanted
to do something with her life that made
women feel empowered. She worked in
the corporate world for 18 years and in
2007 she decided to take the leap and
follow that dream.
Personally, she was always a big fan of jewelry and loved how it
made her feel. Wearing heirlooms from her Mom and her
grandmothers always made her feel special and all grown up when
she was a little girl. As Monica got older she developed her own
taste in jewelry and realized that it really helped her to express who
she was in the world.
So glamjulz really is a collection of designs that are reflective of a
woman's uniqueness and individuality. Monica’s jewelry pieces are
handmade using the highest quality glass beads, crystals, and
semi-precious stones. A huge part of my business is giving back to
the community with special fundraising pieces that I create.
Thanks to purchases from our wonderful customers we have been
able to donate over $30,000 to the people that we care about in our
community.
Mirslu Arslanova
Mirslu joined the Tatar Community
"Berlek" that means "Unity" in the year
2003, and later it was registered as a
non-for-profit organization on January
19, 2004. Her husband was terminally
ill at that time and I wanted to find
people of Tatar origin in Toronto and
GTA to get some support.
Luckily, I was called in by my family friend who said that there
was the first meeting of Tatars in the park and an article had
been published in the local Russian newspaper written by
Farida Samerkhanova about that meeting. Year after year,
more people were joining the "Berlek" Community because
there was a welcoming spirit for every newcomer. Gradually,
the "Berlek" community grew up from 30-40 members to over
1500 members.
She was elected as a President of the "Berlek" community on
October 14, 2007. For the last 10 years, Berlek has expanded
our ties with other Tatar communities not only in Canada but in
North America and all over the world. The World Tatar
Congress knows the community "Berlek" in Ontario as a strong
developing organization. We hold annual activities such as the
national festival "Sabantuy", picnics in the park, arts and crafts
for children, participating in multicultural events, helping elderly
people and families in need. I am proud to be part of this
process and I will be doing my best to keep my community
strong, friendly, and peaceful.
