9 Point Code of Conduct
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba while placing the Sai movement throughout the world on a
firm footing with established Universal principles such as those shown below has also
proclaimed as a guiding light for a devotee’s spiritual and personal development-the Nine
Point Code of Conduct.
1. Daily meditation and prayer (Japa).
2. Group devotional singing (Bhajan) or prayer with family members once a week
3. Participation in Sai Spiritual Education (Bal Vikas Programme) by children of the family.
4. Participation in community service work and other programs of the organization.
5. Regular attendance at the Center’s devotional meetings (Bhajan or Nagar Sankirtan).
6. Regular study of Sathya Sai Baba literature.
7. The use of soft, loving speech with everyone.
8. Not speaking ill of others, especially in their absence.
9. Practice placing a ceiling on desires – consciously and continuously strive to eliminate the
tendency to waste time, money, food and energy – and utilize the savings for service to
mankind.
“It is the Code of Conduct which is responsible for the Organisation moving forward,
growing from strength to strength. The office bearers should exercise maximum care
to see that the Code of Conduct is adhered to and guide others also in the right path…
There should be no scramble for power or position. What matters is the purity,
intensity of devotion and the spirit of self-sacrifice.”
– Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Daily Meditation and Prayer
(According to one's own religious practice)
Sri E Mukundan, State President, Kerala
A few years ago, a book “Let us return to the basics” was printed in England
and became famous book. Now time has come to find out our roots as per the
meaning of the title of the book.
Swamy says ‘Helping the needy is the best service and it is the way to reach
God’. It is our responsibility to tell others about it by practicing it first. Swamy
Prescribed for our spiritual growth ‘Nine code of conduct’, which must be
followed by the members of SSSO. “Doing meditation and chanting His name”
every day is the first principle out of Nine principles.
Today many people pray, but they do not believe in the fruition of their
prayers. One should pray with full faith. Faithless prayers will be futile. Two stories to explain this point.
Story 1:
There was a woman living near a mountain. Behind
mountain, a river was flowing. She came to know
that “Prayers can move mountains”.
She thought, with prayers, by
moving away the mountain,
river behind it could flow
nearer to her house. One day
she went to the mountain,
closed her eyes and prayed
for 15 minutes, to move away
the mountain. She opened
her eyes and saw the mountain as it was. She said
to the mountain “I know, you
will not move”.
It implies, she did not pray
with full faith, and yielded
nothing. She prayed with positive ideas, but with
negative feelings in her thoughts.
Story 2:
A lonely woman living in her house shouted “I am burning away in the fire – save me” Her neighbors ran to
her house with water filled buckets to extinguish fire. They did not see any fire or smoke there. Instead they
saw woman sat in a corner and crying. Having heard the noise of her neighbors approaching her, she
opened her eyes and said “This water cannot extinguish the burning fire within me” and added, ‘the same
fire of anger, Jealousy, hatred is also within you’.

Importance of regular chanting of His name and
meditation:
Story:
There was a multi hermitage. The head of the hermitage
was feeling sorry for not having love, affection, concern
and understanding among members of the hermitage. It
was a worry for him. So, one day he went to a forest
lonely, and prayed God. God appeared before him and
asked “What boon do you want?” The head of the
hermitage revealed his problem and worry about his in mates, and requested God to come and stay with
him in his hermitage till the problem is solved.
With smiling face God replied “In the guise of hermit, I am in your hermitage”. The head of the hermitage
went back and assembled the inmates and said what God has said to him. Since that day each of the
members considered the other member is God. Since then each lived with love towards others and the
problem was solved.
For spiritual progress one should lead a peaceful life. Lack of Peace is the root cause for all sorts of physical
and mental ailments. One should involve in meditation and chant His name perpetually, to enhance one’s
physical and psychological health.
How it is useful to the members of SSSO
Now-a-days we are doing our tasks mechanically, because we do not like such tasks. Swamy says “Interest
in tasks create happiness, and such happiness provokes to work” when work is done as worship, God’s grace
will rain and yield good results.
Animals have no choice; hence they have no problems. Because of choices and priorities, human beings
confront many problems; hence choices / desires are to be controlled.

Two types of Desires:
(1) Fundamental desires
(2) Materialistic desires.
1. Fundamental desires can also be termed as spiritual desire, which contribute for spiritual progress.
Continuous meditation and Name chanting direct us from materialistic desires to spiritual desires.
2. Materialistic desires vary from individual to individual depending upon his socio-economic, religious, and
cultural conditions.
Man is very embodiment of sat-chit-Ananda. Desires sprout from happiness. But Sai service is the way to
real Joy.
Assimilation of efficacy of prayers: Continuous meditation and chanting of His name will arrest ever
fluctuating mind. Mind is always being influenced by different thoughts, just as, air takes the form of a
balloon when pumped into it, or a form of a ball when pumped into a ball, says Swamy.
“You will be what you think. If you think that you are God, you will be God, a ghost, a ghost” - Baba.
When mind desires everything for itself, it lands in peace-less, and discontentment. Such mind cannot
experience God/divinity. Bees hum till they land on flowers. After landing on flowers they enjoy the nectar.
Similarly mind becomes calm when involved in meditation and chanting of His name. It leads mind toward
divinity and confers contentment.
One does not like to see within oneself: It is explained with two incidents:
(1) Gopi, a tenth class student, steals money from his home. To prevent Gopi from stealing money, his
parents kept money in his mathematics book, for; Gopi does not like to open that book.
(2) One day Padma, daughter of Prof. Kasturi, stood with her kid in her hands in Prasanthinilayam. That
kid was crying “Amma!” Swamy saw this, and sad “Look at, the kid in with its mother, still cries “Amma
Amma”. Similarly, you cry “Oh God where are you” not knowing that God is within you”.

Why one does not like to see oneself within: -
Once a master asked his student “find out truth” student replied ‘truth is in books, why to search for it?’
Master said “Your answer looks like, ‘Why to do mathematics, when answers are given at the end of the
book’.” After doing maths, verify your answer with given answer. This is the way.
Having faith in God, search for God are different. Everyone knows that ice cream is soft, sweet and cool.
One should eat it to experience ice cream. Similarly, through meditation and prayers one can experience
God. Experiencing God is similar to river flowing and joining into sea. Once Swamy said “I don’t want your
efficacy. Your qualification and readiness is enough”. All lotus buds cannot bloom, only those buds which
are ready to bloom will bloom with sunshine.
Qualification: - Shirdi Sai Baba once said ‘My treasury is full. But I must see whether you are qualified or
not” Bhagawan said once “You qualify yourself, before you ask me” Meditation and prayers will help to get
God’s grace.
An incident: Once Ravindranath Tagore was travelling in a boat and it was night. He wanted to write some
lyrics in the boat. He lit a candle, but it extinguished due to breeze. But moonlight was brighter, yet the
candle obstructed the moonlight. Similarly, the egoism in man is obstructing the light of divinity in man.
With spiritual practice egoism, could be reduced.
Acquire and promote faith in God: - One day pilot of an aero plane, after finding a serious problem in the
plane announced loudly, “God only can save us” A priest among the passengers said “it means no hopes for
our survival”. This incident reveals that though the priest prays God regularly, he does not have faith in God.
Ever fluctuating mind could be pacified with silent sitting, meditation and chanting his name once Swamy
said that “Managing one’s life is managing one’s mind properly”. A peaceful mind learns from the past,
experiences the present happily and plans for future.
Like mirror we have to reflect Swami’s light: -
Once a youth asked Lord Buddha
Youth: Have you come from Heaven?
Buddha: No
Youth: Have you come from angel’s abode?
Buddha: No
Youth: Are you a man?
Buddha: No.
Youth: So, who are you?
Buddha: You could have asked this question in the beginning?
“I am silent Atman, can reflect anything” said Buddha.

A story: -
Once an unemployed youth has gone to a firewood businessman for work, youth was given the work to cut
the firewood into pieces. Day by day you are cutting the less and less wood. Hence his wage was also
decreasing day by day. Then the youth questioned the businessman, “Why it is happening, I am attending
my work on time?” The businessman replied “Day by day you are cutting less and less wood and your wage
is also decreasing, because you are not sharpening your axe regularly”.
Regular spiritual practice is needed to progress. By seeing Swamy in one’s self and in others, one can go
from “I” to “we” and from ‘we’ to “Divinity”.
Swamy said to a devotee in an interview
“Swamy has framed ‘Nine points code of conduct’. Swamy knows how many of you are not practicing the
first step- “Regularly chanting His name and meditation”. When one cannot climb the first step, how could
he reach the goal?” said Swamy.
Why Meditation and chanting his name?
Once Swamy remarked “you are singing my Bhajans but you are not
practicing my commands”. Without obliging God’s commands, one
cannot love God. Once Narendra questioned Ramakrishna
Paramahansa, “How can I also be in devotion uninterruptedly, like
you?”
Ramakrishna Paramahansa put a glass of fruit juice in front of
Naren, and showed him a fly going around the tumbler.
Ramakrishna said to Naren “the fly cannot taste the fruit juice,
unless it dips itself into the juice”. Naren understood the inner
meaning of it.
Swamy answered “Meditation and chanting cleanses the mind, just as soiled and dirty clothes are washed”.
Conclusion:
For man to sustain himself both food and meditation are important, to keep the body alive, and mind
peaceful. Sri Sathya Sai Organisation’s standard depends upon its member’s quality which depends up on
meditation and chanting.
We should not be like spoons in curries and sweets, which cannot taste them. Unless we put into practice,
what we listen from Swami’s thousands of His divine discourses, we remain like spoons in sweets and
curries. Regular meditation enables to experience the divine. Once a sculpture, Michelangelo, curved a
beautiful idol from a useless stone. He said “Having seen an angel in that stone, I helped the angel to come
out of that stone,” similarly meditation and chanting will bring out divinity, talent within us.

Jyothi Dhyanam
Smt. Kamala Pandya, National Coordinator
Thinking always to reach the set goal of life is ‘Dhyana’ that goal may be God or light. The word ‘Dhyana’ is
coined from “Dhee” and “Yaana”. ‘Dhee’ means intellect ‘Yaana’ means to push. Hence ‘Dhyana means to
push our intelligent to reach the set goal of life.
In spiritual practice, Japa and Dhyana are two inseparable twins. They are like two wings to a bird. The letter
‘Ja’ annihilates rebirth; and the letter ‘Pa’, in Japa, destroys sins. Thus ‘Japa’ annihilates scope for rebirth by
destroying all the sins committed. While Dhyana takes the intellect/buddi, towards God. These two help
man to see within, and for self-realization.
Japa and Dhyana are like two bullocks to the cart of in dwelling soul, to reach the goal. Man, with ‘monkey
mind’ never keeps his mind stable, always goes thither and hither. Such a monkey mind has to be given
‘watchman’s’ work, to observe inhale and exhale that is “sou” “hum”. This is ‘SOUHUM’ Dhyana says
Swamy.
When you meditate on
omnipresent God, the feeling of ‘I’,
God, ‘Dhyana’ will become ‘one’. For
this ever fluctuating mind has
to be turned towards the goal.
This could be done by sitting on a
comfortable
place, keeping God’s
photo (of his/her
choice) or a light.
Swamy says ‘light’ is better, because
the photo may change its color in
course of time. But ‘light’ will not
change (light means lit the
candle).
You may imagine
light is God’s form
(photo). Swamy had given a good
example: imagine
there is a tub with
full of water. Each one comes and take one mug full of water from the tub. After some time the tub will be
emptied, similarly, everyone comes and take handful of sand, the heap will disappear. But ‘light’ will not
exhaust. From that light many candles may be lighted, but still the first light (candle) will glow/light as it
was. That is way Jyothi Dhyana (meditation) is better, says Swamy.

For ‘Dhyana’ one has to sit straight in front of the light comfortably. Head should not be but on either side,
or backward or frontward. Swamy says, it is because, in our spinal cord, there are 33 rings. Among them, 9
to 12 rings, there is life energy. It is said in Vedas “Neelathoya Madhyasthaa Vidhyullekena Bhaskara”. It
means, a divine energy passes through these rings. So we should not sit bending our spinal cord, for the
divine energy will not flow to “Sushmma Naadi” straight. To enlighten us, Swamy gave a good example.
The sun’s rays spread all over- on trees, animals, land, rivers, garbage, houses and what not. When sun rays
touch the garbage, or waste papers, it cannot do anything. But once we keep convex mirror in between
sunrays and waste papers the concentrated sunrays burnt the garbage/waste papers and turn into ash. In
the same way the rays of our soul could be sent directly through convex mirror like Dhyana and burnt the
Ajnana -ignorance (like garbage).
Next, look at the (candle’s) light with
concentration. Create the image of light on your
mind, slowly close your
eyes. Then slowly take the
light to your heart (Hrudaya), from there to all
parts of your body (each
part by each). To which
ever part of the body this Jyothi touches, there
cannot be any ‘Ajnana’ or
sickness. Why is it so?
Because, “Thamasoma Jyothirgamaya”. When
Jyothi goes to the hands,
they will not involve in bad
deeds; to the head, bad
thoughts will not sprout; to
the eyes, see always good; to the ears, hear
what is good; to the tongue, speak always
good; to the legs, go to
pious and worthy places; to
the stomach, keeps pious and clean. Thus Jyothi
meditation purifies the
parts of the body.
After sending the light
(Jyothi) to all parts of the
body, bring it out of the
body, and send the same
to your relatives, kith and kin; friends, neighbor and even to foes, then to animals and birds. In this way
when you see same light/Jyothi in all beings, then you will become stable. When you travel along with
Jyothi, you will not know, how long you are in Jyothi meditation. Then you will forget your body conscious.
Then you will realize “Anthar bahiseha Thatsarvam vyapya Narayana sthitam”, meaning, you will realize
that there is only one light (Jyothi) inside and outside. Whosoever see, you will see the same light in them.
In this way you will experience oneness.
Even after completing Dhyana, you have to feel ‘oneness’ and peace. Bhagavad Gita says, always you
should be “yogi”, hermit, “sathatham yoginaha”.

Yogaha chitthavruthi Nirudhakaha”. When mind is controlled both mind and body will be at equilibrium.
Swamy gives an example: there is a utensil with full of water. When utensil is shaken, water also shakes, and
then you cannot see the bottom of the utensil. In the same way, water like divinity is full in the utensil like
body. When the body (utensil) is shaken (with design) mind also shakes, then you come out of equilibrium
position. In this situation ‘Dhyana’ comes to your rescue to restore equilibrium of both body and mind. The
goal of your life should be to enjoy bliss. Such eternal bliss could be reached only through Dhyana, says
Swamy.
Swamy explains the concepts of concentration, contemplation and meditation with an example by taking a
rose flower. Swamy says “your life is like a rose plant. Your materialistic relations are like the branches; your
characteristics features are like its leaves; your desire entanglements are like the thorns of the plant. The
rose flower that blooms in the plant is flower of love.
Identifying the rose flower among branches, leaves and thrones is the concentration. Plucking the flower
from the plant, without getting hurt by thorns, leaves and branches is contemplation. Contemplation
means detachment. The flower is detached from the branches, leaves and plant. That implies your love is
detached from worldly materialistic things and relations, then your love becomes pure.
Then you offer the flower of pure love to God. Then there would not be plant, leaves, branches, or the
hands that offered the flower, nor the flower itself. Then there is only God. That means you become ‘one’
with God. That oneness with God is Dhyana says Swamy. The body of the meditator, meditating mind and
meditation is made as one entity by Dhyana.
Peacelessness what we are experiencing today could be overcome and escaped only through Dhyana.
Swamy says that prayers take you to the fact of God, which Dhyana brings God to you. Dhyana fills the
mind with light (Jnana), gives peace and bliss. All people irrespective of their duties, responsibilities could
shine brightly in their respective fields through DHYANA.

Devotional Singing / Prayer
With members of his family once a week
Sri Bharat Jhawar, State President, MP & Chhattisgarh
Neither do I reside in Vaikuntha nor in the hearts of the Yogis, but I dwell where
my devotees sing my name, O Narada!!
WHY FAMILY BHAJAN?
Swami says…..
“ Where there is Harmony in the home,
There will be order in the Nation.
When there is Order in the Nation,
There will be Peace in the World.
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbam” World one Family
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” is a Sanskrit phrase found in
Upanishad, which means, “The World Is One Family”.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is derived from the Sanskrit words –
Vasudha means the Earth, “Iva” means “is” and Kutumbakam
means the “Family”. Thus "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam“which means
that the whole world is One Single Family.
Advantages of Family Bhajans
• Bhajans are the source of positive vibrations and
positive thinking... through family Bhajans this positivity percolates to all members of family.
• The family that prays together stays together..... so it strengthens unity among family.
• It becomes a platform to announce and encourage participation of each member in other Seva activities...
which may be discussed by the already active members with other family members.
• It contributes and promotes the spiritual upliftment of all members of a family.
• The full throated singing of the glory of the Lord..... Removes all ill feelings, obstacles, negativity, or any
problems....even the "Shad Ripus " from each member.
• Each member becomes more self confident
• The soulful Bhajans...Travel with each member to their homes...giving them the required benefits till they
assemble for the next Bhajan.
• The children and the youngsters of the family all develop a deep liking for Bhajans and spiritual activities..
They also unite as one and can participate in other activities. Since they have experienced the bliss of
Bhajans and of unity which has become a habit, by then...they will carry forward the same legacy to the
ensuing generations.

Attendance by one’s children in the Balvikas / Educational
programs conducted by the Samithi / Centre
Sri Manoj Batra, State President, Rajasthan
My Experiences as Balvikas Guru
I had the opportunity of having first Darshan of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba at
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on 14 th March 1999. When I saw Baba for
the first time I felt he does not walk but he glides. After the first Darshan I was
convinced that He is God. After his Darshan there was intense desire within me to
know more about his teachings. As a result I read more and more of his books and
also about the experiences of his devotees. After his Darshan I also developed a
hunger to participate in the spiritual activities conducted by Sai Organisation so I
started taking Balvikas classes in the rural areas nearby Ajmer (City where I lived). As Balvikas Guru, I used
to take two Balvikas classes a week-i.e. on Wednesday and Thursday. Balvikas class on Wednesday was
residential and while the Thursday Balvikas class was at a school. Both the Balvikas centers were situated in
two different villages.
While going to these villages, on the way, we would often chant “Om Sri Sai Ram” or “Sai Gayatri”. We
experienced many times the presence of Bhagawan Baba’s grace
and blessings in these journeys to the villages and sometimes we
were pleasantly surprised to receive unasked help from strangers
also. These small but very heart touching experiences were great
learning lessons to us. It was like Swami is saying “You march
ahead even if it is dark I will illuminate path.”
One day due to my involvement in the Balvikas classes I could
not prepare the Chemistry lesson for the B.Sc. 3 rd year class
which I had to take the next day. So, I reached college
unprepared for the lesson and that day I also shared my dilemma with one of my colleagues. To which he
said, “why worry you have Sai Baba with you”. I was really surprised to see his faith in my Sai Baba which
unfortunately I lacked.
Anyway, I reached to my B.Sc. 3 rd year class and called out the name of students for taking their attendance
in the class. As per the established convention every student would respond by responding “Yes Sir”. I was
deliberately going slowly to pass the time One student stood up and said if you do not mind we all have
decided that today we will not study Chemistry. Sir, we are fed up lets us discuss something else just apart
from Chemistry. I had no words to describe His mercy and compassion for me. My unprepared lecture was
such a mundane affair and yet he was fully aware of my dilemma of facing the students. He really saved
self-respect and dignity in the class. So, I was filled with gratitude which choked my voice. Mentally
thanking Swami, for the next 35 minutes, we virtually discussed everything in the world except chemistry.

Personal Transformation
All these experiences (as Balvikas Guru) convinced me, beyond
any iota of doubt, the Omniscience of Swami. My involvement in
Balvikas classes was also instrumental in bringing about lot of
transformation in my life. Earlier I was very impatient in my life
but while conducting Balvikas classes and dealing with Balvikas
children I became more patient in my life. Although, I was
already lecturer in college but somewhere I lacked the confidence of a
teacher. It was only my role as Balvikas Guru which filled me with the confidence of facing
the student. While teaching BV children I learned the art to correlate my subject with the day to day life
better than before. My ability to face the audience and public speaking capability also improved
significantly. I became more intuitive thus more self-confident than before which made me more peaceful
and complacent in my life. As a youth if you have money, time and no sense of direction then your life is
surly heading towards doom. But in my case in spite of having all these ingredients nothing of that sort
happened it was only due to my constructive involvement in Balvikas movement. For which I always Thank
Swami from the bottom of my Heart.
Organisation is an Extrapolation of Balvikas
In Sai Organisation, after Balvikas, I was given the responsibility of Samithi Convenor in 2004 and later
State Youth coordinator in 2007. Gradually, I realized that activities of Sai Organisation are the extension of
Balvikas activities. The Nine-point code of conduct is explicit representation of five teaching methods
practiced in Balvikas namely: Meditation, Story Telling, and Prayer, Group singing and Group activities. Five
human values are implicit in Ten Commandants of Swami which we follow in the Organisation.
National Balvikas Movement
From National prospective we have in India 15,663 Balvikas centers with the
enrollment of 3,38,313 Balvikas children being mentored by 19,476 Balvikas
Gurus. If we view it from Swamis’ prospective of “Balvikas to Lokvikas” then
we are far behind. But instead of results we need to focus more on the
approach of Balvikas. We need to strengthen our parenting programme along
with core Balvikas activities. The involvement of Gents in Balvikas activities
should be strengthened. The Balvikas Guru motivation should be the prime
focus of Educational activities of the Organisation. Last but not the least, for
universal acceptability the multi-faith approach in the Balvikas needs to be
given more importance. Wherever necessary we need to update the Balvikas
content in this regard while maintaining the sanctity of core teaching
techniques as envisaged by Bhagawan Baba.

Participation in service activities of Sri Satya Sai Seva
Organisations
Sri S G Chalam, State President, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana
At the age of 55 years Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba framed
‘Nine-point code of conduct’ to enable His devotees lead a
righteous life by following human values. The fifth point of
“Nine point code of conduct” is ‘Participation in service activities
of SSSSOS.
Happiness and sorrow are the results of man’s deeds. Swamy
showed ‘Social Services’ as a means to escape from such needs.
By involving in social services one can realize Atma / Soul and
can enjoy the supreme Bliss. Good and useful social activities
annihilate the evil effects of evil deeds, and help to reach the
goal of life. Services transform man’s behavior and attitude and
purify man’s thinking and thus paves the way for his spiritual
progress. Service is the only and easiest way for spiritual
progress.
Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba provided us this rare opportunity of service to society. It enables man to reach
highest position from the existing position. Whether we take part in the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation
services or not, the works of the Organisation will go on uninterruptedly. These service opportunities are
provided to transform ourselves to lead a pure life and enjoy Swamy’s love.
“Hands that serve and holier than the lips that pray” – Bhagawan Baba. We should not stop with only
prayers. Service and spirituality are complementary to each other. Service is for one’s progress. While doing
service, we should not think that we are doing good to the society. Such a thought enhances egoism /
Ahankaram and stands as an obstacle in the path of spiritual progress. We should do selfless service, should
not expect anything from doing service. “Helping others is a virtue: paining others is a sin”.
Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba gave the mankind, the substance of all Vedas, as “Help ever – Hurt never”;
“Love all serve all”. These great sentences indicate correlation between service and spirituality.
“The essentiality of spiritual life in SERVICE”. “God loves those, who serve others” God blessed man with
speaking, thinking capacities and wisdom. Use these capacities in God’s work in the name of social service.
Diving with God is devotion, true education and service to the society. One should think that mind, wisdom
and senses are not mine, and they are God’s gifts and hence must be used for the service to the society,
service to God.
“Service exposes man’s true nature, attitude, innate energies, and spiritual knowledge. It establishes unity
in diversities. It is a step to reach the goal of life (Moksha). It is supreme means in the spiritual practices.”
Service indicates fatherhood of God, brotherhood of man and thereby paves the way that “all are one”.
In the name of Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai, God has taken human form, to serve the society by providing the
most needed services – free education, free water supply and free medical facilities. All His services are

ased on the great sentence “Love all- serve all”. Swamy lit light in many people’s lives by involving them in
services, and thereby taking them closer to Him. For those who cannot understand the spirituality lying
behind service could be explained thus: -
The society in which we are living, the nature, the mines, water, trees, animals, plants, sun, moon, fire
elements are sustaining our lives. As a gratitude to the above mentioned sustainers, we have to serve the
society, and thereby go closer to God.
Service should be done with love filled heart. On one of the festival day in Prasanthinilayam, Swamy was
going round among the parents and students, when clearing Swamy’s way, with his bare hands. Swamy
asked the students why he was doing that? The student replied that he was keeping clean the way on which
Swamy (God) walks. Then Swamy, with His own hands poured water on the student’s hands for cleaning.
Swamy showed the result for unexpecting services.
5D’s for service:
Dedication, Devotion, Discipline, Discrimination and Determination are five
elements required for service. Service abhors egoism, and gives happiness to
the beneficiaries. Service is the supreme spiritual practice – Swamy’s
Discourse 13 th January 1968.
An incident from Mahabharata. After Kurukshetra war, Dharmaraja was
performing ‘Rajasuya Yagna’, then Srikrishna asked Dharmaraja to give him
the service opportunity, to keep the footwear of the invitees and guests in
proper place, and to take away the places after eating from the guest and invitees, and thus keep
the dining place clean and neat. From this we have to note God Himself involved in service without thinking
the nature of service. Swamy Sees the heart is doing services, but not the amount of service. Service is the
backbone of Sri Sathya Sai Organisation. Selfless and love embedded service gives happiness, and God’s
love. One can get God’s love serving through this great Organisation.
We have to show same interest in Organizations’ works as we show in our individual families. All people
cannot get opportunity to serve in the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation. Those who get service opportunities in
this Organisation is the result of their good deeds in their past lives. We should be ideal to the society,
through our deeds and behavior. Swamy sees your readiness to serve the society, but not your caliber
Swamy can make grass blades to do great deeds.
One day Swamy students saw a small twig lying on the way Swamy walks. Swamy was coming. Students
were in dilemma whether to take away that twig or not. Meanwhile a dove had taken away that thing. Thus,
service is an opportunity. Once it is lost it is lost forever and ever. Never wait for somebody, do it
immediately. Why to do service in Prasanthi Nilayam? Parents can teach their children, then why to send
them to school? Your service in your organization may create egoism and selfishness. But service in
Prasanthinilayam is pure and does not lead to any such feelings. One has to question oneself. With sunrise,
everyone feels happy. Is there anyone who feels happy with our existence?? Are we giving any happiness to
anyone?

Participation in Samithi Bhajans and Narayana Seva
Sri Nagesh Dhakappa, State President, Karnataka
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba blessed the organisation by starting the
activities with Bhajans - Devotional singing. He said "I manifest Myself
when My glory is sung". True to this prediction, devotees witnessed His
presence during Bhajans. Way back in 1967, Swamy showed His
presence during Bhajans when Aum appeared in vibhuti on the back
rest of His chair. In various ways He showed His presence. During late
90's while seated in office at Brindavan, an overseas senior devotee
showed a photograph taken from the Altar side, covering activities
during Arati, clearly showed Bhagawan walking back in the centre.
From childhood, teaching Bhajans to his classmates, forming Pandari Bhajan Group by Swamy has been
known to us. Swamy inspired devotees to sing Bhajans and devotional songs. He Himself wrote many
Bhajans which He taught and made everyone to sing. He asked them to sing Bhajans on Thursday, and
later every day in their residences. He inspired group of devotees from Bangalore to sing Akhand Bhajan
for 24 hours. After 25 years, Swamy has made it Akhand Bhajan (Globally) every year.
Bhagawan inspired and asked devotees from Malleswaram, Bangalore to start Sri Sathya Sai Bhajan
Mandali, which He Himself inaugurated in 1962-63. This is the first unit anywhere in the world. In our
country, where singing Bhajans was a way of life in every household, a new dimension was added. Sai
Bhajans are attractive and draw large number of devotees and non-devotees alike. This is one activity of
every Samithi which has not stopped attracting large participation at all levels. Many other
organizations’ also perform these Bhajans. Truly, the great Pontiff of Sri Kailash Ashram, Bangalore
said: "Bhagawan Baba has inculcated Bhakti - devotion in the hearts of millions of devotees across
different countries of the world". We know that Swamy instructed innumerable students to sing
Bhajans, practice intensely and attain perfection. Today the Bhajans by students are the attraction
which submerges every devotee into devoted bliss.

Next, to share two of my experiences with Bhajans.
1) Swamy instructed me to participate in Summer Course in 1977 at
Brindavan. I was working at Goa, in an EPC firm. Not having enough
leave, had to attend without pay with a condition that I will report
back as soon as I was called back. The days passed. On the 25th day of
the Summer Course, I got a telegram to report back for duty. As no
mobiles were there at that time, I received two more telegrams
suggesting disciplinary action if not reported. That evening,
Sri.Purushothamdass Jalota was singing Bhajans. One of the Bhajan was
"Prabhal Prem ke Pale padhkar Prabhu ko niyam batate dekha,,apne
maan tala jaye, bhakta ka maan na talate dekha"(i.e. if you have intense
devotion, God will change the rule. At the cost of His Honor, He will protect
the devotee). I was so moved by the Bhajan; I decided not to leave and
continued with summer course. As Bhagawan asked me to come to Parthi
after that and gave me some work, I could report to the office only after 45
days, with a resignation letter. But to my utter surprise, our officers had
told the Chief Engineer that I was at site and gave me salary for 2 months
also! During the last 4 days of the Summer Course, Bhagawan told us that
the best Sadhana in this age is join Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation and
work. This inspired me to join the Organisation immediately thereafter.
2) Another best moment of my life occurred during Bhajan. I was very
fond of Prasanthi Bhajans and would rush to stand in queue
immediately after Darshan, so as to sit right in front during morning
Bhajans in Mandir. Jan 1988, I sat in Bhajan right in front and was
looking at Swamy during the entire Bhajan. Swamy, in His own way,
was communicating and blessed me at the end before Arati. That was
the day Bhagawan Baba instructed me to take up the responsibility of
State President of Karnataka.
One of the most important aspects during Bhajans is the Chair we keep
for Swamy. We firmly believe that Swamy is Present during Bhajan. We
firmly believe that He is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. All of
us must be very careful and cautious about our behavior and conduct during
Bhajans. I wish to share the experience of a devotee. This devotee had the
privilege of accompanying Swamy on outer body experiences. During such a
session, being in a soul form, Swamy asked the devotee to go round Sai
Kulwant

Hall, and watch the movements of people. Subsequently, Swamy asked to note the change when He
came physically for Darshan when there was pin drop silence. Swamy remarked that everyone should
realise that Swamy is Omnipresent and conduct themselves accordingly.
We have to follow the rules and regulations as laid down by Swamy, as also by all learned speakers who
received guidance from Swamy, specially the students. We had the privilege of hosting the National
Bhajan Conference at Brindavan when experts and leading Bhajan singers of the Organisation from all
over India attended. The guidelines book prepared in the Conference should be followed.
In 2010, as part of the 85th birthday celebrations every state had organized Parthi Yatra for devotees. As
per the schedule, our state Yatra was between 29th October to 1st November. Due to indifferent health
of Bhagawan we were asked to cancel the program and not have any cultural program.
However, our devotees wanted to come and have Darshan without any programs. About 2500 devotees
arrived from all parts of the state and our Yatra started.
At noon on 29th October, Bhagawan Baba in His infinite compassion and love, permitted us to have
programs for the next two days. He also wanted us to have programme on 29th itself. On an earlier
occasion, after the cultural program by our Balvikas children in Said Kulwant Hall, Swamy Bhajans by
Balvikas children and we were not prepared. Hence, this time we had prepared our Balvikas children to
sing. Swamy permitted this and our children sang melodious and beautiful Bhajans for more than an
hour. Swamy in His infinite compassion and Grace sat and blessed the children. This firmly showed us
that we should pay special attention to teach and train our children to sing Bhajans from early age.
Next are the various problems and issues faced:
1) The major issue of our Organisation is that of Ego. Efforts should be made and accommodate
everyone.
2) Various issues were created by devotees who had the privilege of receiving instructions from
Bhagawan, especially state level Bhajan groups.
3) I faced several such issues with regard to Brindavan Bhajan Group, especially Mahilas, fighting for
seats, for singing - ego issues. After Swamy personally instructed, I spent several hours trying to resolve
these issues. Today, when Bhagawan Baba is not with us physically, we have to persuade them to come
and sing. This clearly proves that Omnipresence is not felt.
4) Like any other Sadhana, Bhajans, participating as also teaching Bhajans, should lead to inculcating
devotion and transform us. It should help us to reduce our ego, jealousy, envy and lead to positive
actions.
5) Quality of Bhajans - efforts should be made to improve, as we inspire so many people who attend.
During Bhajans, they may get blessings and we have to be the instruments in that direction.

I appreciate the excellent work done by Brindavan Bhajan Group (Gents) in bringing out a book entitled,
"Brindamrutam" consisting of 1926 Bhajans with all details for singing. Devotees from different parts of
the world are buying this. We have already done 3 reprints. This shows interest of devotees in Bhajans
and the efficacy of Bhajans.
Finally, I feel we should increase the number of Bhajan centers to the nook and corner of our country,
thus inculcating devotion in the hearts of everyone, which Swamy showed.
Next is Narayana Seva. Feeding of the devotees is an activity which is widespread in our country in
temples, gurudwaras and other religious centers. For the first time, Bhagawan inspired and motivated
every family to do it. Every day a fistful of grains is to be kept apart and collected, cooked and served to
poor and the needy. Today, this activity has grown in every Samithi and is being done regularly
involving lots of devotees in this Sadhana thus helping the poor. In addition, on special occasions,
festivals etc. Narayana Seva is done for large number of poor and needy. In Karnataka, on 24th April, Sri
Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsav Day, we have been feeding 2 lakh poor people. Recently, we started
serving on a daily basis 1000 patients and attendants at Kidwai Cancer Hospital run by Govt. Of
Karnataka. Lots of devotees have joined hands in this Sadhana.
We are fortunate that it is His Grace and Blessings that we are at His Lotus Feet. Meritorious acts in the
last many births have given us this privilege. Pray Swamy to Bless us all on this path of Sadhana.

Regular study of Sathya Sai Baba literature
(Self-Valuation for Spiritual Analysis)
Sri G Varadhan, State President, Tamilnadu
Every member of the Organisation must practice to read Bhagawan Baba’s
literature daily as part of Sadhana and maintain a record of progress in the
form of a diary. Spiritual diary is an important instrument to evaluate
oneself is the path of spiritual life. First we have to analyse whether there
is unity of thought, word and deed.
Self evaluation does not imply following the mind blindly. Swamy says
that mind should be a servant rather than a master. To do it every day we
have to analyses our spiritual life, before going to bed. It is better to write
our activities in a diary.
Writing spiritual diary everyday and analyzing before going to bed, inflicts discipline, which is very
important for leading spiritual life.
Spirituality does not mean a weight to be carried on our head. It is tagging our mind and wisdom to God,
as per His will let it go. Maintaining spiritual diary does not mean writing yes or no, for various
statements in it. It helps to evaluate one’s self weekly or daily, to test and know whether there is an
improvement is doing good deeds.
When we are guided by anger and unlimited desires, our spiritual practice will be futile. For spiritual
practice selfless love is very important. Swamy says Heaven is not at a distance place, but it is within us.
Happiness can’t be obtained from outside, it is within us, we have to regularly analyse our spiritual diaries
and correct lacuna if any.
Suggestions for self-evaluation and spiritual analysis: -
1. Every member should write spiritual diary. This diary can be framed according to one’s existing
conditions.
2. Spiritual diary should be written as a report / analysis to be submitted to Swamy.
3. In this diary, we have to write how far we are following Swamy’s Prescriptions in our daily life. We
should also write whether we are following five human values or not.
4. We have to mention the mistakes, illegal activities, and such other unwanted deeds, that we
committed, pray Swamy let such mistakes do not be happen again, and Sadhaka (Practioner) should
take precautions not to do such deeds again.

5. In the following next self-evaluation, express gratitude to Swamy for His Benevolence in the diary. An
incident and experience of a student. Swamy told to a student from Hyderabad that he would get a
permanent job. But his circumstances forced him to join in a temporary post. Then his faith in Swamy
shackled. The next day, his management made him a permanent employee in the same company. Then
the student felt sorry for losing faith in Swamy.
6. In the study circle or in the monthly ‘satsang’ on spiritual dairy will be a great help, to discuss and
analyse.
7. The idea of ‘spiritual dairy’ is a precious and noble idea of Swamy.
8. This dairy will be a guide to every ‘in-charge ’ person of various wings of SSSSO., and it will be a great
help to the ‘new comers’ of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation., and it will be useful for Sri Sathya Seva
Organisation’s progressive works.
Conclusive analysis: - For spiritual progress, self evaluation could be done on the following guidelines
Rethinking Revision Criticize
analysis
What to be
Try for
Set right the
done
unity of
deficiencies
What is
thought,
in you.
done
word and
deeds.
Sprout new
energies.
Spiritual dairy is the measuring rod for spiritual progress:
1. Transformation is our behavior.
2. Regular meditation and chanting of his name.
3. Implementation of unity of thought, word, and deed.
4. Keeping away from bad feelings, bad thoughts and bad company; and becoming closer to good
feelings, good habits, good thoughts and good company.

Speaking softly and lovingly with everyone
With whom one comes into contact.
Sri Rajiv Chopra, State President, Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand
This is an interesting point of the code. In the original 9 Point Code of Conduct,
the 7th point was mentioned as 'Speak softly with everyone'. It seems that
many devotees mistook this to mean the 'to speak in a soft tone or volume' and
neglected the aspect of the 'harshness of the words'.
During Swami’s 60th Birthday Celebrations, Bhagawan placed this 7th Code of
Conduct in its proper perspective. Swami in his unique style explained that a
dog sometimes barks loudly on seeing its master - but all that loudness is an
expression of love. Whereas a snake hisses very softly but its soft sound maybe
a forerunner of a poisonous bite which can be fatal.
Therefore, speaking with love is the essence of this code of conduct. Swami said wherever possible speak
softly, but even if some people have a naturally loud voice, it does not matter as long as what is being is
said is spoken lovingly and does not in any way hurt the feelings of the other person.
To cite an example, we can all relate to, I am reminded of our respected Professor Anil Kumar. Although
he always speaks in a loud and energetic tone, he is always full of love and gentleness.
So, how should we transform ourselves to follow this code of conduct?
If we are in a habit of speaking in a harsh, angry tone, it is quite natural that people would avoid talking to
us or will never share their inner thoughts and feelings with us. Obviously, this is not a happy state of
affairs.
The First step is to begin with speaking softly, sweetly and lovingly
to those we care for the most – our parents, spouse, brothers, sisters
and children. Understandably, if this is not our natural way of
speaking, this will require a conscious effort and practice. To help
our transformation, Swami has guided us that every time we are
about to shout or speak harshly, we should visualize Swami in the
person we are talking to. Swami says “Just close your eyes and
imagine you are talking to Me!
Slowly spread this practice to friends, relatives and professional
colleagues and finally to everyone that you come in contact with.

The second step is to be careful of what you eat. Like they say, we become what we eat. As far as
possible eat only simple Satwik food and always eat in moderation. Your food greatly contributes to your
thoughts.
Swami says good thoughts lead to good words. Good words lead to good actions. Good actions lead to
good habits. Good habits lead to good character. Good character lead to a strong will power. And with a
strong will power you can change your destiny.
The most common situation when we speak harshly is when we are angry. The fact is that when we
become angry and nurture that anger over a period of time we harm ourselves more than we realize. It
has been scientifically proved that every time we get angry, highly toxic chemicals are produced in our
body and if these are produced regularly, they can actually lead to fatal diseases like heart attack and
brain damage.
When we interact with people in society, it is absolutely normal to have a difference of opinion with
another person. Sometimes the other person may even speak rudely to us and this may instigate us to
lose our temper. We must practice to control our emotions at such times and not react negatively. We
have a tendency to justify our behavior by saying it is a reaction to the other person’s behavior. We must
remember it is always wiser to respond than to react. When we react, our behavior is one of getting even
and driven by our ego. But when we respond, we are in more control of our emotions and therefore our
behavior becomes more rational.
When we get angry we actually give the control of our emotions to another person. When we are angry,
he or she can easily manipulate how we behave in that state of anger. We may sometimes say or do
things in this state which we will regret later on.
Brothers and Sisters, there is so much negativity and stress in society today that something or other is
bound to upset us every day. It could be news channels; it could be the traffic or it could be professional
rivalry. But the truth is that anger is not an external thing. It is a state of mind. No one makes us angry if
we are in control of our mind. So, the key to our peace of mind cannot lie in the outside world. It actually
lies within us by having greater control over how the outside world affects our inner peace.
Therefore, by practicing meditation and silent sitting we can greatly enhance our capability to stay calm
even when we are subjected to anger and negativity from another person.

We can follow any of following techniques to deal with anger:
‣ Simply leave the place and go away.
‣ Go and stand in front of the mirror and observe how unpleasant you look with an angry face. Force
yourself to smile.
‣ Drink a glass of cold water.
‣ Let me share something which works quite well with me. Normally whenever we are angry or upset
our breathing becomes rapid and out of rhythm. It always helps to close one’s eyes and force ourselves to
take a long breath and slowly exhale. If we can chant the Gayatri Mantra or Om Sri Sai Ram along with
this and pray to Swami to help control your anger, the anger slowly vanishes and we become calm.
‣ Swami has also stressed on the practice of forgiveness. When a person’s behavior is making us angry,
if we can raise our thoughts to the next level where we actually feel bad for that person and pray to
Bhagawan to grant him Sadbuddhi (good mind) and to forgive him, we can deal with the situation in a
better manner.
The Fourth technique to reduce the harmful effect of our tongue is to speak less. Speak only when
absolutely necessary. Swami once said “Be careful what you speak. Animals have horns, nails and teeth,
insects have bites, but for man the biggest weapon for hurting others is his tongue. The wound made by
one’s tongue sometimes doesn’t heal in a whole life time. The human tongue is more dangerous than an
atom bomb.”
I remember reading somewhere that the 3-inch-long tongue of a human being is capable of destroying
the peace of mind of a six-foot-tall person. Yet if the same tongue is used for speaking words to comfort
another person, to express love and sympathy or to chant the Lord’s name it can become an invaluable
tool to earn God’s Grace.
Lastly, I feel the secret of speaking softly lies in inculcating humility in our character. In today’s society,
arrogance and brashness is a natural product of success and a position of strength. Our behavior and
tone becomes callous when we know that the other person is not in a position to talk back. This is exactly
the opposite of what Swami expects from us. Like tree which stoops down when it is laden with fruits, it
is a mark of a true man of character to become even more polite and humble when he becomes
successful in life. One should be even softer spoken to people who are less fortunate or successful than
us. The best way of inculcating humility in our character is to remove the feeling of doer ship from our
actions. Like once a devotee told me that whenever someone praises me or gives me credit for
something done well, I quietly smile to myself and tell Swami “Wah Bhagawan, Kaam Tumhara, Naam
Hamara!”.
Brothers and Sisters, words once uttered can never be retrieved. Hence care has to be taken to ensure
that no harm is caused by our words. Irrespective of who the person is to whom we are speaking; words
have to be obliging and loving. Scars left behind by harsh words cannot be erased.
Swami beautifully sums this code of conduct in his famous quote:
’You may not always be able to oblige, but you can always speak obligingly’.

Not speaking ill of others, especially in their absence
Sri Ramesh Sawant, State President, Maharashtra & Goa
Any organizations development depends upon its members disciplined behavior. Such disciplined
members will be ideal to be followed. One of the code of conduct is members should not aspire for
position or power, but should work with pure, committed and sacrificial mind.
What is the meaning of belittling others in talks: -
1. Criticizing a man in his/her absence.
2. Belittling his/her character.
3. Spreading rumors.
4. Propagating his/her works badly.
5. Giving mooching names.
6. Talking to create negative/bad spots on his personality.
Belittling others is incorrect and not good, because: -
1. Organizations and revolutions lose their existence.
2. They will not be allowed to express their views.
3. An obstacle for spiritual progress.
4. It accumulates sins.
5. Others personality will be badly affected.
6. Cannot see god’s presence in others.
Discrimination: -
1. Should not overlook others mistakes.
2. Criticism should be constructive one, such that it will correct
the person and helps to progress. But criticism should not reduce
the image or personality of the others.
SWAMY’S Message: -
1. Of all the sins, destructive criticism and blaming others is the
biggest sin.
2. You cannot see mistakes in others, when you don’t have any
mistakes.
3. A virtuous man always thinks about truth and be always sees
truth only.
4. Belittling others, imply belittling ourselves, because there is
only one (Atma) soul in all.

What we have to do?
1. When somebody speaks ill of others, get away from that place immediately.
2. See God in every person.
3. Keep yourself in silence: A silent man may not have friends, but will not have any foes. Such people
will have ample time to analyse themselves.
4. Those who wish to progress spiritually must attach (link) words to mind to wisdom: wisdom to atma
(soul).
5. Talking less reduces the scope to talk ill of others.
Dictum from Bhagavadgeetha:
Lord SRI KRISHNA said- fearlessness, purity of heart, stability in meditation, control of senses, doing
good deeds, bearing problems patiently while discharging one’s duties, nonviolence, truth, no anger,
sacrifice, stability of mind, peace, not speaking ill of others, showing reasonless love towards all beings,
not being harm to others, patience, courage, cleanliness etc are the features or characteristics of God
loving people.
Dictum from Bible:
Never speak ill of others, ill speaking people are against just, they questions righteousness. You are not
the doer. In this world there is only one, who establishes justice, protects and punishes. So, who are you
to delicate others?
Dictum from Quran:
Live with faith that God is there. He helps you to lead a virtuous life. He makes you to feel sorry when
committed mistakes, and thus purifies you.
Dictum Buddha:
Pointing other’s mistakes is not a criticism, if the
objective is to make the other person perfect. Those
who always pinpoints others mistakes with bad
intension can never acquire concentration of mind and
wisdom, cannot understand righteousness, and they
will be restless.
Dictum – Mahayana Buddha:
1. I promise that I never speak about others mistakes.
2. I never pinpoint others deficiencies.
3. Never blame others.

These three statements/phrases should be followed by everyone.
What science says: -
Nobody liked those who gossip about others. Swamy says, of all the sins, blaming others is the greatest
sin. Swamy says, we should think good and see well. When we have these two virtues, we can see always
well on others. “See good, do well and be good”-Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Conclusion: -
Wise people always think about new constructive ideas. Ordinary people discuss the past. Low profile
people discuss about others.

TEN GUIDING PRINCIPLES (10 COMMANDMENTS)
1. Love and Serve your country. Do not be critical of others' countries. "Have a sense of pride in your
motherland. Just as your mother has given birth to you, so too the land has given birth to you. Whatever
country you belong to, you should have a sense of patriotism. You should not indulge in criticizing other
countries or people belonging to other nations. Having trust and faith in your own country, you won't try
to put down any other country. Never bring grief or sorrow to your country. To have pride in one's own
motherland is important."
2. Honour and respect all religions as pathways to God. "Never have hatred toward any religion. Honour
and respect all religions equally. Even as you are citizens of your motherland but respect all countries,
also respect all religions equally."
3. Love all humanity as part of your family. "Develop a sense of the brotherhood of man. Look upon each
person as your own brother. There is only one caste, the caste of humanity. All of us belong to the
human race, so everyone is equal. Therefore, love each one equally."
4. Keep home and surroundings clean."Keep your own house and its surroundings pure and clean. This
hygiene will keep you healthy and benefit your worldly life." Aum Sri Sairam SRI SATHYA SAI SEVA
ORGANISATION ANDHRA PRADESH 9 CODE OF CONDUCT & 10 COMMANDMENTS DISTRICT: SEVA
SAMITHI:
5. Help the needy with food, clothing, and shelter. Help them become self-reliant when possible. "Be
discriminating when dispensing charity. In the name of charity or philanthropy, we tend to do injustice to
this country. Charity does not mean that the land should be full of beggars. We can provide some
support and means for the beggars, but provide food, clothing, and other conveniences in such a way
that you are not encouraging laziness and begging."
6. Be examples of honesty. Do not participate in any corruption such as bribery. "Never give or take a bribe.
Giving bribes, or accepting bribes, is contrary to the very name of the Sri Sathya Sai organizations. Bear
this in mind continuously."
7. Curb jealousy, hatred and envy."We must seek ways to solve difficulties such as hatred, envy, and
jealousy. To curb this sense of envy and jealousy, we must develop a broader outlook. Do not
differentiate on the basis of race, caste, creed, or country. Follow your cultural and religious customs in
your own home, but do not attempt to impose them on society. Rather than this, love each person as
your own brother, not seeing him as belonging to another creed, religion, or country."
8. Develop self-reliance. "Members of the Sri Sathya Sai Organizations should do things by themselves;
they should not depend on others. You may be very wealthy and have servants and assistants to help in
a few tasks, but your own work you must do yourself. If you wish to be of service to society, serve
yourself first. One who will not serve society has no right to belong to a Sri Sathya Sai organization."
9. Observe your country’s laws and be exemplary citizens. "Never ever go against the law of the land.
Follow the letter of the law. The members of the Sri Sathya Sai organizations should follow the law in
spirit also, and be models for the government."
10. Adore God, abhor sin."You must love God and avoid sin. Love God incessantly. As long as you keep
committing sins, God will never be yours."
Religion and Devotion
There is only one religion, the religion of Love;
There is only one language, the language of the Heart;
There is only one caste, the caste of Humanity;
There is only one law, the law of Karma;
There is only one God, He is Omnipresent.
