The Homer Jr. High seventh-grade
girls volleyball
team recently beat Hickory
Creek to win the sectional.
Members of the team are
Mary Bresnahan, Alyssa
Cannatello, Megan Consigny,
Colleen Donnelly,
Emma Garner, Lainey
Green, Emma Kocanda,
Mia Krsanac, Peyton Kryza,
Candace Porfilio, Kylie
Ryan, Alexandra Simkus,
Riley Simmons, Mackenzie
Stevens and Kiera Zurek.
The team competed at
state on Friday, March 9,
and Saturday, March 10,
finishing fourth in 4A at the
state finals in Normal.
The team ended the season
with a record of 24-4.

Presley Rivera (11 feet, 6
inches) tied for first. Noah
Panos (11 feet) and Carlos
Ruiz (10 feet) finished third
and fourth for the Porters.
Placing second in the invite
for Lockport was Leslie
Nartey (5 feet, 6 inches) in
the high jump. Holland (8.16
seconds) was second in the
55-meter hurdles, just edging
teammate Jacob Freese
(8.19).
“It wasn’t my fastest
time, but the energy was
there,” Holland said. “I
was injured my freshman
year with stress fractures in
both legs, and I still battle
with shin splints. But as a
sophomore, I got our sophomore
record in the 55 and
110 hurdles. I hope to set
our junior records in those
events, and the 300 hurdles
outdoors, too.”
Also taking second for the
Porters was Kyle Langellier
(55.69), while Freese (55.78)
was third in the 400-meter
dash. Langellier (6.92)
was third in the 55-meter
dash, and Holland (7:07)
took fourth. In the 200-meter
dash, Michael Walkosz
(24.87) placed third, and
Seaberry (26.42) was fourth.
This was more of a developmental
meet to see and get
kids to progress,” Razo said.
“But it was a good meet with
good times. Conor [McCarthy]
needs to work on the
triple jump a little more, but
he did well. We’ll find out
how good we are in May.
There’s a lot of good teams
out there.”
Lockport will complete
the indoor season with the
SouthWest Suburban Blue
meet on Friday, March 16,
at Olivet Nazarene University
in Bourbonnais. That is
followed by the Top Times
Invite on March 24 at Illinois
Wesleyan University in
Bloomington. The outdoor
season starts on April 7 at
the Belleville Invite.
