Let’s go!<br />

“We’re always progressing, getting better and better.” I ran across<br />

this quote from my father, Dr. Tei-Fu Chen, Founder of Sunrider,<br />

while working on this issue of the <strong>SunWriter</strong> magazine. I found<br />

it while reading a publication from 2012, yet the statement is as<br />

current as today’s day. It cuts to the core about what Sunrider<br />

strives for. We’re always innovating to stay ahead of the<br />

competition. We look back into the fields of the past only to get<br />

better, moving onward into the harvest of the future.<br />

She earned a Juris Doctor<br />

In 2017, we successfully rolled out a new compensation plan in 50<br />

countries (you can read about this on page 20). Furthermore, if you<br />

have questions about the new plan, on page 18 we have answers.<br />

We also launched new shakes last year, which are standing out in<br />

the crowd. Head to page 6 to learn more about the regenerative<br />

nutrition behind these concentrated herbal foods.<br />

There’s also a lot of excitement around the Slim Down Challenge,<br />

one of our MAPs that was presented during the 2017 Grand<br />

Convention. The Slim Down Challenge is becoming one of the<br />

favourite tools for IBOs to promote their businesses, and you can<br />

read some of their success stories on page 16. And for help on<br />

healthy living, nutrition, and fitness, we have top advice from our<br />

experts: Elise Hartley and Dr. Reuben Chen. Read on.<br />

We all know that sticking to a healthy routine of eating well<br />

and staying fit throughout the year can be challenging. So<br />

we’d like to give you some tips that will help you focus on your<br />

goals and give you the best chance of following through.<br />

LET’S START WITH EXERCISE.<br />

If you are new to fitness routines, a good place to begin is<br />

with Sunrider’s Fitness Brigade ® Exercise System, a<br />

powerful resource for weight loss that’s ideal for beginners<br />

and experienced fitness enthusiasts alike. Go to Sunrider’s<br />

fitnessbrigade.com or sunfit.com for more info.<br />

If you’re intimidated initially by the types of exercises,<br />

start with the modified versions, with the goal of completing<br />

each video in its entirety. The modified versions will give<br />

your body a chance to acclimate to the sequences before<br />

tackling the more advanced moves.<br />

If you’re a fitness warrior but still struggling with<br />

that last bit of weight you’re trying to lose, incorporate<br />

a “Fitness Friday” using Fitness Brigade’s high-intensity<br />

workouts, which will likely get you over the hump.<br />

If you find that Fitness Brigade isn’t for you, then try<br />

something else instead that incorporates both cardio<br />

and strength training. You’re more likely to stick with<br />

something you enjoy, so do what works for you. Some<br />

options might be brisk walking, cycling, running, swimming,<br />

group fitness, or yoga. Aim to exercise from 3 to 5 times a<br />

week for approximately 30 minutes a session and then<br />

gradually increase frequency, time, and workout intensity as<br />

you progress. Remember, you get out what you put in.<br />

SLIM DOWN CHALL<strong>EN</strong>GE<br />

Another effective way you can lose weight, while at the same<br />

time promote your business, is doing a Slim Down Challenge.<br />

It involves participants committing to lose 4% of their body<br />

weight over 4 weeks, supported by the use of 4 key Sunrider ®<br />

products. The great thing about the challenge is that you don’t<br />

have to do it alone—you’re in it together with other participants,<br />

supporting each other along the way.<br />

If you want to blast calories while learning some fun<br />

dance moves, check out our SunFit ® Beat: Hip-Hop<br />

Dance series. The videos include tutorials on different<br />

dance routines that break down each step. Also try the<br />

SunFit ® exercise series, demonstrated by Dr. Reuben<br />

Chen, which is a great way to learn proper form for<br />

performing a variety of foundational exercises. These videos<br />

Once you’ve established the “what” of your fitness<br />

program, you need to make sure you stay motivated. One<br />

of the main reasons people don’t stay committed to their<br />

program is lack of motivation. Set yourself up for success by<br />

following these tips:<br />

STAY THE COURSE<br />

AND CRUSH YOUR GOAL!<br />

1. Plan your workouts and meals in advance.<br />

2. Tell your friends about the Slim Down Challenge and ask<br />

for encouragement.<br />

3. Have a mantra or a phrase that you repeat like, “Every<br />

day I do this, I get stronger.” Or, “I will commit to this today.”<br />

Repeating phrases like can help you follow through.<br />

4. Write encouraging notes to yourself and place them<br />

around the house in visible locations.<br />

5. Work out with friends and enjoy the social connection.<br />

6. Keep a journal of your workouts, measurements, weight<br />

loss, and milestones. Track your progress and refer back<br />

to it when you need some added motivation.<br />

7. Don’t get discouraged. Tell yourself each time you<br />

complete your workout that you will feel much better<br />

after you’ve done it, and you will be one step closer to<br />

meeting your goal.<br />

“BE A PRODUCT OF THE PRODUCT”<br />

Another fitness motivator to keep in mind is the importance<br />

of setting a good example to your downline. By using<br />

Sunrider ® products and doing the workouts, you will<br />

naturally look and feel your best. Sharing your own fitness<br />

success story about how Sunrider has transformed your life<br />

also supports what you are sharing and recommending.<br />

Although exercise is an important factor in a weight-loss<br />

program, diet is equally important.<br />

Here are some ways to help you keep your food intake in check<br />

and avoid the common traps associated with weight gain:<br />

1. Plan your meals ahead and pack your lunch when you’re<br />

traveling or running errands. Make sure to give yourself a<br />

healthy daily dose of fruits and vegetables and stay hydrated.<br />

2. Cook healthy. Reduce butter and fats in recipes, avoid<br />

excess sugar, and use only lean meats.<br />

3. Stay away from heavy cream, oils, and cheese in your<br />

dishes. Although you might compromise a little on the<br />

taste, the benefits will be worth it.<br />

4. When eating out, choose healthy options and don’t<br />

splurge on holiday specials.<br />

5. Plan to eat before going to parties, so that you aren’t<br />

tempted when you arrive. Opt for the fruit and vegetable<br />

tray and keep your alcohol intake to a minimum.<br />

6. At potluck parties, be sure to make something tasty<br />

and healthy that you’ll enjoy eating, in case healthy<br />

selections are limited.<br />

7. Eat in moderation. It’s not necessary to deny yourself<br />

any food and don’t beat yourself up if you overindulge.<br />

Just get back on track at your next meal.<br />

motivated, and continue to work toward your goal!<br />

Sunrider reaches out to its IBOs and staff in fundraising drives to aid victims of devastating hurricanes.<br />

From hurricanes and flooding to earthquakes and<br />

landslides, 2017 was hit by a record-breaking number of<br />

deadly natural disasters. Among these was Hurricane<br />

Harvey, an extremely destructive Atlantic hurricane that<br />

became the first major hurricane to make landfall in the<br />

United States since 2005. In a four-day period in August<br />

2017, the system meandered over eastern Texas and adjacent<br />

waters, causing catastrophic flooding, inundating hundreds<br />

of thousands of homes, displacing more than 30,000 people,<br />

and prompting more than 17,000 rescues.<br />

Later in the autumn of 2017, the one-two punch of Hurricane<br />

Irma and Hurricane Maria hit regions in and across the<br />

Florida Keys, the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico. Irma was the<br />

strongest Atlantic basin hurricane ever recorded, and its<br />

winds devastated the island nation of Barbuda, damaging<br />

95% of the buildings there.<br />

Maria hit the US territory of Puerto Rico in the middle of<br />

September. It was the first Category 4 hurricane to directly<br />

impact the island in 85 years, and its damage was sprawling.<br />

In the immediate aftermath, nearly all of Puerto Rico's two<br />

million citizens were without power. To date, many of them<br />

are still in need of basic supplies and amenities.<br />

In response to these disasters, Sunrider organied two<br />

fundraising campaigns spearheaded by Dr. Tei-Fu and Dr.<br />

Oi-Lin Chen, pledging to match donations contributed by its<br />

staff and IBOs in the U.S. and Canada. The combined amount<br />

for the two campaigns totaled more than $50,000. Much<br />

of this amount was given to Direct Aid, a humanitarian aid<br />

organisation whose work has earned wide recognition from<br />

independent charity evaluators, including a 100% fundraising<br />

efficiency rating from Forbes.<br />

Imagine that you earned a big bonus from Sunrider and were presented with an oversized cardboard<br />

cheque on stage during convention. You’re proud of the cheque and want to post it on Facebook.<br />

No problem, right? Wrong.<br />

The danger here is that by doing this you could lose your<br />

distributorship and place the company in jeopardy with the<br />

European Consumer Centre (ECC) of your country.<br />

The example depicted above is related to a prevalent<br />

problem in the network marketing industry referred to<br />

as improper income claims. An income/earnings claim<br />

is a statement made by a company or its representative<br />

about the income an individual can earn from a<br />

business opportunity.<br />

THE ECC OF YOUR<br />

COUNTRY MANDATES THAT<br />

IT’S ILLEGAL TO MAKE<br />

MISLEADING STATEM<strong>EN</strong>TS<br />

ABOUT INCOME.<br />

And examples of “misleading” cover a broad spectrum.<br />

At one end are actions that may appear harmless, such as<br />

stating actual earnings that you or someone makes if they<br />

are higher than average earnings. Showing your cheque—<br />

even an ordinary one—to prospects, and again, posting a<br />

photo of your cheque on social media is prohibited.<br />

Furthermore, the European Consumer Centre of your<br />

country doesn’t allow you to tell prospects about (or show<br />

photos that depict) lavish lifestyles. This means no scenes<br />

of exotic travel, fancy cars, lavish mansions, and yachts<br />

when prospecting. You also can’t tell someone that they<br />

can quit their job and easily earn as much doing a network<br />

marketing business.<br />

On the extreme side are examples of people doing things<br />

that can be viewed as unethical. For example, some top<br />

earners show their big bonus cheques to prospects to entice<br />

them to join. Some even exaggerate or lie about how much<br />

they make to attract others. And it’s not uncommon for<br />

distributors to project examples of incredible incomes that<br />

can be earned as a distributor.<br />

The “income proposition” is the engine that drives many<br />

businesses in network marketing, so the ECC of your<br />

country is vigilant and comes down hard on violators.<br />

Share the types of bonuses that new IBOs can earn. You<br />

can tell prospects about Sunrider’s Retail Sales Bonus, the<br />

Based on their answer, you can show them how to calculate<br />

how much they could make on the Retail Sales Bonus using<br />

our Compensation Plan Brochure. You can tell them they<br />

can earn a £75 advancement bonus when they reach Star<br />

Elite in their first three months and that they can earn a £375<br />

advancement bonus when they reach Ace Royal.<br />

claims in the network marketing industry is prohibited.<br />

Results always vary. How much you or someone in your<br />

upline makes has no impact on how much someone else will<br />

make in the business. Like in any other business, it takes<br />

Q: What if a prospect asks me how much money<br />

I make in my business?<br />

Rather than talking about your income or showing them<br />

your cheque, share the average earnings disclaimer<br />

from Sunrider (Available for the U.S. in February). Show<br />

your prospect how much IBOs make at each rank, how long<br />

on average it took to get there, and what their chances of<br />

achieving those ranks are.<br />

A: Simply tell them that the ECC forbids you<br />

from disclosing your income if it’s above the<br />

average. (You can, however, share the average<br />

earnings disclaimer.) This allows you to avoid<br />

setting false expectations and at the same time<br />

demonstrates integrity. As their sponsor, it’s<br />

your role to help them avoid the landmines that<br />

Personal Volume (PV) is the qualifying volume of you<br />

and your customers (retail and preferred).<br />

Downline Volume (DV) is the qualifying volume of you,<br />

your customers, and all of the IBOs in your organization<br />

and their customers.<br />

7. WHAT IS THE DIFFER<strong>EN</strong>CE BETWE<strong>EN</strong> A<br />

BUILDER LEG AND THE MAX VOLUME<br />

RULE? WHY DO YOU HAVE THEM?<br />

A Builder Leg is a leg with one Active IBO (200 PV) and<br />

at least 1,000 DV in a given month.<br />

Max Volume Rule applies to DV only. Only up to 50%<br />

of the total required monthly DV may be counted from<br />

any one leg or from the IBO’s own PV for qualification<br />

purposes only.<br />

These are introduced to help IBOs create more stability<br />

in their organization and to discourage inventory loading.<br />

Having 4–6 strong legs is much more stable and<br />

Visiting the home of a prospect or customer is a great way to promote and sell Sunrider ® household products.<br />

It gives you a chance to talk about product benefits and<br />

prove their effectiveness with hands-on demonstrations.<br />

At the person’s home, begin by gathering all of their<br />

cleaning products. Place them on a table with the Sunrider ®<br />

household products next to them.<br />

Inspect the ingredients. Show the person the<br />

labels on their cleaning products. How many potentially<br />

hazardous ingredients are there in each of them? Now<br />

look at Sunrider’s products. They’re non-toxic and made<br />

with natural ingredients. While typical cleaning products<br />

are loaded with chemicals that are dangerous to keep in your<br />

home and harmful to the environment, Sunrider’s household<br />

products are safe for people, pets, and the environment.<br />

Demonstrate the difference. Do a demo that<br />

shows the effectiveness and and versatility of SunBright ®<br />

SuperClean TM Household. Pick a few places in the<br />

house to clean. Choose areas that are well lit and have some<br />

dirt, so that they’ll look better after cleaning. Windowsills<br />

and tabletops are good areas for this.<br />

Explain how Sunrider ® products are highly concentrated<br />
