1) You Are Focusing On Too Many Social
Media Channels
There are so many social media platforms today...such as Facebook,
Linkedin, Youtube, Pinterest, Instagram and it can be easy to get
overwhelmed.
Master one outlet and then once you’ve gotten the flow down, start to
incorporate another platform.
When you set unrealistic goal to be active on all social media
channels, what ends up happening is you door a poor job on all of
them and it ends up hurting you.
It’s like going to 10 parties in 1 night and then you don’t remember
anyone you met.
It’s better to focus on just one when starting out.
2) Trying to Sell Your Products and
Opportunity Immediately
Just like you won’t walk into a party and start selling immediately, you
also don’t do that on social media.
You have to provide value and get to know people first before you
start posting links to your products and business.
3) You Don’t Provide Value
What is valuable content? Anything that inspires, educates or
even entertains. You can do this by sharing interesting personal info,
sharing something funny, sharing tips, quotes, great pictures….
Anything that can help bring you engagement and something to talk
about!
If nobody likes your content on Facebook maybe it’s because
they don’t like it, not because they don’t see it. Change your
content or change your audience.
You can always delete anyone that never interacts with you or
is not actively using Facebook. Make room for new friends. This
will also increase your Edgerank and your overall engagement.
And if you want more likes and comments, give out more likes
and comments.
4) You Are Not Engaging
It’s important to understand that social media is just like attending
social events offline.
Just like you don’t walk into a party and stare and talk to no one, you
have to engage with your audience on social media.
That means you have to like, comment and communicate with others.
It takes time but you have to do it otherwise you’ll just be like the guy
who walks into a party and stares at everyone and leaves.
Most importantly, if you don’t engage with others, you are telling
Facebook that you either have no interest or people are not interested
in you.
In other words, “you don’t matter” to this Facebook world.
And if you don’t matter, Facebook will “penalize” you by decreasing
the number of people who sees your posts and you become irrelevant.
5) Posting Things That Are Not Consistent
With What You Represent
People forget that everyone is always watching what you do. They post
things that are inconsistent with their business.
It’s important to build your brand and your image. The more laser
focused you are on what your message is and who you want your
audience to be, the easier it will be to attract those people.
6) Lack of Consistency in Posts
When you are not consistent people stop paying attention and you begin
to blend into the background noise.
You have to make it a daily habit to post consistently.
7) Not Having Any Personal Content
People are interested in what’s going on in your personal life. It’s great to
tell engaging stories and keep people interested in what is going on with
you. If you have results with Lean Java Bean, share how it makes you feel
or a story about how it had something to do with your day.
If you just share business stuff, people will start ignoring you and you
become irrelevant.
See #4 about consequences of Lack of Engagement.
Now… we’re going to go into more advanced strategies and the mistakes
that are made.
8) Not Having a Time Budget for Social
Media
To create consistency and to prevent yourself from falling into your
Facebook,Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest feed, it is really a great idea to
budget some time for working on your social media.
Once the timer is up, you have to stop and go back to doing what you
were working on.
This creates urgency and also make you more productive in your social
media activities.
9. Not Keeping An Updated Profile Picture
You will be surprised how dressing up your Social Media profile raises
eyebrows. See, most people are like Santa. They are always watching.
When they see you step it up a notch, kick up your game, upload a sharp
headshot photo, they take notice. That’s exactly what you want. Again,
the goal of Social Media is to attract attention and keep them curious.
You want people sending you messages asking you what you do.
