SolidScreen® - External roller sun blinds -
A complete range for commercial and
domestic applications.
External shading has become increasingly
popular in recent years as a method of
effectively controlling solar heat gain within
buildings.
SolidScreen® is an automatic shading system,
powered by internal tubular motors and
controlled by Somfy Systems.
The screen fabric is locked into the side guide
with ‘zip’ technology. This ensures that the
SolidScreen® system can withstand very high
wind loads.
SolidScreen® is suitable for a range of
environments including external shading of
office buildings and the home, and as part of
our Cubola Awning systems.
SolidScreen® a shading solution which
reduces the transfer of heat from the suns
rays through glass.
Installing blinds externally ensures less heat
is transferred to the building. Sun glare is
also reduced inside the building. The blinds
produce a diffused light whilst maintaining
external visibility.
Automating the opening and closing of blinds
located on different elevations of building,
using light intensity or time will provide
effective building climate control and reduce
expensive air conditioning costs.

Cubola Solid Screens
Cubola SolidScreens are a fully automatic retractable side screen.
They incorporate a unique zip system which locks the sun screening
fabric securely into the side guides preventing any distortion from
the wind. The screen is operated from a remote control. Side or front
screens are a practical addition to Cubolas and protect against the
elements and provide seclusion. Ideal when creating outdoor dining
or lounge areas, and hot tub enclosures.

SolidScreen® The Cassette
The screen fabric is housed within the
cassette head box and wound on a
supporting tube. The internal motor is
connected to one end of the tube and a
double bearing on the other.
The sides of the fabric have a zip heat
welded to the edge. This zip runs in gutter
incorporated within the side guide.
The weighted lower bar holds the fabric
taught. This bar is supplied in three
different shapes depending on style and
dimensions.
Manufactured in the UK, SolidScreen® can
be supplied in two standard colours white
and anthracite, although any RAL colour is
available as a special order.
The SolidScreen® is operated by a hand held
remote control and can be incorporated in a
smart building control system.

The Technology
The screen is compliant with all relevant CE
Standards and has been tested by the TUV Nord
Group. SolidScreens are tested on two criteria, life
span and wind resistance which are graded on a
scale of 0 to 3. The SolidScreen has scored the highest
possible rating, class 3. Additional wind tunnel testing
of the SolidScreen proved that the screen remained fully
functional at wind speeds up to 90mph.
Solar heat gain is the increase in temperature within a
building as a result of solar radiation. This transfer of
heat is most apparent on glass walls, windows and doors.
Architects reduce solar heat gain by specifying thermal
efficient windows. In addition to this, installing external
blinds is generally more effective than installing internal
blinds, offering over a 70% reduction in solar heat gain.
