Twisted Element is one of
Calgary’s newer gay bars that
has managed to stick around.
It was opened in November of
2004 by owners RJ Fafard and
Cliff Andrews. Their greatest
challenge was finding a landlord
that would agree to a gay space.
After finding a venue and opening,
Twisted proved quite popular as
evident by the lineups outside
the building.
Twisted hosts a variety of events
including two weekly drag shows,
the Saturday Variety Show and
the Sunday Show hosted by Mr.
Terri Stevens. As of February 1st,
2017 the bar has been under
new ownership.

selection of gay
clubs is the biggest
reason why I do not
go clubbing very
often these days.
In Calgary, the only
club I relate with is
Twisted Element, but
I get bored with the
idea of going there
and only there. I
feel that once the
economy rebounds,
more gay-friendly or
gay-oriented bars/
clubs will open and
everything will turn
around.”
