Athlete of the Week
10 Questions
with Greer Bireley
The Glenbrook South
junior is a major contributor
for the girls lacrosse
team and has committed
to play at Butler University.
When and why did
you start lacrosse?
I started playing in third
grade at this house league
with a bunch of friends because
it seemed fun. Starting
in seventh grade I started
playing club and I’ve
loved it since third grade.
Do you have any
superstitions before a
game?
I like to do a handshake
with one of my friends on
the team and we’ve been
doing it for the past two
or three years before field
hockey games too,
What do you like most
about lacrosse?
I like how it’s a team
sport. In order to play the
best game possible, everyone
has to be playing their
best and working together.
I’ve also made a lot of close
friends at GBS and my club
team playing the sport
What is one thing
people don’t know
about you?
I used to do ballet as
a younger, younger kid.
Now, I am not a dancer at
all.
What is your favorite
sports moment?
Last year when it was
the game to get into the final
four and we were playing
Lyons Township and
it was a one-goal game,
which we ended up winning
in the last minute. It
was super exciting and the
first time I was in the final
four. It was just such an
awesome feeling winning
such a close game like that.
What is one thing on
your bucket list?
I want to live in Ireland
for a certain period of
time, maybe after college.
I want to get closer to people
there.
If you were a
superhero, what
superpower would you
want?
I would want to be able
to fly. I feel like that would
be so cool because you
could go wherever you
want so easily.
What would you do if

you won the lottery?
I would probably travel
around the world and take
all my friends wherever we
would want to go. I would
want to go to Ireland and
other places in Europe,
maybe go to the Caribbean.
If you could play
another sport, what
would it be?
They don’t have it in the
U.S. but they play it in Ireland
called hurling. I saw a
match when I went to Ireland
with my family and
it’s basically like lacrosse,
baseball and football. It
seems like it could be a lot
of fun to play.
If you could be any
animal, which would
you choose?
I would want to be a dog
because they’re always so
happy and everyone loves
them. They’re always loyal
to their owners.
