Celebrate OUR GREAT
NORTHUMBERLAND
In a year that sees the Great Exhibition of the
North put the spotlight on our region, we will be
celebrating the best Northumberland has to offer.
Great Northumberland will be a summer
full of exciting, family friendly events
encouraging residents and visitors alike to
enjoy, discover and explore Northumberland.
Over nine weekends between 7 July and
1 September, the county will come alive
with exhibitions, installations, music
performances and immersive experiences.
With free events at venues across the
county, we’re inviting you to enjoy the
arts, heritage, innovation and creativity
in Northumberland.
From celebratory festivals to the exploration
of the galaxies at Allenheads Contemporary
Arts, as well as engaging experiences at
Lindisfarne Castle, international sculpture
exhibitions and live music performances,
there will be something for everyone.
Celebrations will kick-off with a
spectacular, family friendly opening
ceremony in Hexham on 7 July. This will
provide an opportunity to showcase each
venue and event happening across the
summer. There will also be street theatre
and music throughout the day.
Great Northumberland will come to a
close with a finale event in Berwick on
1 September. This musical extravaganza
will include the first performance of the
Great Song of the North. Composers will
work with the local communities to create
a new song, using the musical heritage of
the county as inspiration. It will be
performed by local schools and choirs at
the event, and celebrations will continue
into the evening with a traditional tea
party and Northumbrian music and dance.
