Structurally insulated roof panels (SIRPs) can streamline any roofing project. They’re easy to handle and
install, which can improve the efficiency of a project while significantly reducing building time. Not to

Not Accounting for Possible Contraction or Expansion

All SIRPs must be placed with fasteners. Incompatible fasteners can cause issues for the roof panels. For
example, if the fasteners are made of a different metal than the steel roof panels, there might be a
reaction between the two. Additionally, ill-sized fasteners can cause panels to loosen and separate, so
purchasing the correct fasteners is just as important as purchasing the correct panels.
Purchasing the Wrong Colour
Believe it or not, the colour of SIRPs matters way beyond style. For example, a colour that absorbs heat
can cause the outer layer of a panel to overheat and place stress on the rest of the panel. This can lead
to corrosive damage throughout the roofing system. The exterior of the panels should always reflect
light, so light-coloured panels are first choice. Just remember to specify your colour choice or you might
receive a 'standard' colour.
Buying Panels with the Wrong R-Value
SIRPs can be air tight, but only if the R-value is correct. If you’re not an expert, it may be impossible to
choose panels with the ideal R-value. The higher the value, however, the more efficient the panels.
Panels with higher values will provide better insulation and a greater thermal barrier between the roof
