What to See and Do
Whether you want to get away from it all and simply relax or pack your trip full of activities,
the Hocking Hills is the perfect destination. Here are some of our favorite activities.

Our guests have a wide variety of ways to enjoy the beauty of the Hocking Hills. Hocking Hills State Park
and adjoining Hocking Hills State Forest along with Wayne National Forest have miles of trails and acres of
woodlands to explore. Hiking, canoeing, fishing, zip lining and much more await you in the Hocking Hills!
Hiking
Hiking is by far the most popular activity for visitors to the
Hocking Hills. Hocking Hills State Park has several trail
options that are open year round from dawn until dusk.
Hocking Hills State Park has six major hiking areas.
Cedar Falls
It’s easy to see why we’ve chosen this Hocking
Hills landmark as our favorite. The 50-foot
waterfall is the largest in the region. Cedar Falls
offers a ½-mile moderate hike through hemlocks,
grottos and rock formations.
Ash Cave
Ash Cave is the largest recess cave in Ohio,
measuring nearly 700 feet from front to back.
Guests marvel at the large waterfall in the cave’s
center. Also a great place to look for native
wildflowers in the spring! There are two trails to
choose from at Ash Cave: The Ash Cave Gorge
trail is a ¼-mile easy hike which is handicap
accessible and the Ash Cave Rim trail is a ½-mile
moderate hike.
Rock House
Rock House is a cave set in a 150-foot cliff.
Visitors marvel at its sandstone columns and
natural “windows”. Historically, Rock House was
used as a shelter for natives and was once even
used by robbers and bootleggers. The Rock House
Conkle’s Hollow
This part of the Hocking Hills State Park is
trail is a ½-mile moderate hike.
also an Ohio State Nature Preserve, where bird
watching is popular. It has trademark sandstone
cliffs and a hardwood forest. Conkle’s Hollow
has two trails to choose from: a 1-mile handicap
accessible easy hike and the longer 2 ½-mile
6
Conkle’s Hollow rim trail, which is a moderate
hike.
Old Man’s Cave
The most visited natural attraction in the Hocking
Hills is Old Man’s Cave. This naturally carved
gorge offers a 1-mile hike of moderate difficulty.
Cantwell Cliffs
The most remote of the trails in Hocking Hills
State Park, Cantwell Cliffs features a 150-foot high
cliff where a waterfall flows. A great place to spot
native wildflowers in the spring, Cantwell Cliffs
trail is a 1-mile difficult hike.

Hocking Adena Bikeway
17.9 miles of paved paths in Athens. The trail
also goes from Nelsonville to Athens with serene
woods and the Hocking River meandering in
between.
mountain biking. A variety of distances offer bikers of all
moderate to difficult challenge to cyclists.
canoe companies.
Bird Watching
One of the fastest growing pastimes in Ohio is bird
