RUGBY
RUGBY
It is 10 years since Jonathan Taylor organised a team for the
Heineken 10s tournament followed by the club rugby’s first XV
match against Chiswick. This season, matches include Merlins,
London Japanese and Sherborne Pilgrims.
CLUB COMPETES HARD
Despite the sapping mud and cold
for both sides a surprisingly fastmoving
match against the Merlins
took place in February. Although a defeat
for the club, skills and endeavour where on
show in this heavy-going fixture.
The season concludes with a match
JPR’s lunch
The rugby lunches take place in the
days before England’s Six Nations
matches. Organised by Matthew
Ebsworth, they included a memorable lunch
before the Wales game with speaker JPR
Williams. Held as a question-and-answer
session with first Matthew, then members
and guests asking the questions, John
Williams charmed the audience with his
honest and straightforward replies.
The match the following day at
Twickenham saw England beat Wales
12-6, but the day before – even with some
admission that it might go that way – there
was fire in the Welsh who attended.
